Gomorrah (2014)
Season 5 is a bit of a disapointment.
Season 1-3: absolutly brilliant. Season 4 very good. Season 5 just okay. A shame they couldn't keep up the level of quality until the last season. Ciro is so overhyped, the realism was gone. A bit overacted as well. I stil enjoyed the last season, but not as much as I hoped (and waited) for.
Interstellar (2014)
7 years later
Sometimes I just need to see the start. Or end. Or a trailer. Or the music and theme from Hans Zimmer. Or the whole movie. Just to feel that thing, I only get from this movie. That the earth, space and time are something special, mystical. I never forget the first time I saw this movie, in an IMAX theatre in 2014. I was struck by it. Totally got me. And it stil does, 7 years later. This is the best movie ever made for me. Because of the feeling it gives me, no other movie can. So hard to get all of this emotion in only one movie. Brilliant.
Shtisel (2013)
Amazed.
Yes, it might be slow for some. But to me this pace was perfect. A good story and great acting takes time. It's an art. Perfectly done in these series. I was shocked at the start of season 3. Like only 2 or 3 movies or series have done before in my life. What a performance.
I Know This Much Is True (2020)
Just perfect.
This is an example of what is the difference between a good series and a great one. Acting, pace, cinematography, storyline, it's an art to get it right. This series does so. Mark Ruffalo is outstanding, as for the rest of the cast. Don't miss this series.
Monarca (2019)
Mexican soap serie
Due to the high ratings I gave this a shot. Foreign Netflix originals are often interesting. This one didn't meet my expectations. And I don't understand the high ratings. Direction and editing of the episodes is bad. The tempo is way to high and the whole 'social media' episodes were terrible and had nothing to do with what was actually happening. Acting isn't very well to. There are a few good acting ones, but most of them are B or C actors who usually appear in soap series. And thats what this series feels like. A soap series, not well made and acted.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Great movie.
Sometimes you just have to go watch a movie yourself, if ratings are so so. Happy I did. Because this is just a very well made movie. Not a big blockbuster or typical Hollywood movie. You can go elsewhere. If you like a modern arthouse movie, this might be something for you. I really enjoyed watching this. Don't get why metascore is so low. Same with Interstellar. Which is one of the best movies ever made. Go watch this movie and judge it yourself.
The Last Dance (2020)
What a story
I'm Dutch and had my teenage years in the 90's. I knew we had this Dutch player in the NBA. Rik Smits. But he was never really newsworthy for Dutch media.
After I've seen this series, I think we missed something here in the Netherlands. What a sports. What a time. No smartphones, no social media, just waiting to go and see the next game.
Rik, you are my new sports hero. You played ball with all these legends. Let's give him some attention in The Netherlands, he's earned it.
About this series. It's beautiful. Best sports documentary I ever saw. Can't miss this.
Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020)
Propaganda
A huge disappointment to realize Netflix supports this piece of Turkish propaganda. It's like last summer, sitting on a terrace in Fethiye, Turkey. A waiter told me the beautiful Greek island Rhodes was actually Turkish soil. I told the waiter that wasn't true. The Turks only occupied it for less then 4 decades. That's it. Like the city of Fethiye I said, which not so long ago was and always had been a Greek city. Of course, he didn't like my lesson in history. The Ottoman empire didn't last for long. At Rhodes though, you can still see some mosques. Where in Turkey, they destroyed every link to the Christian times. Propaganda. Destruction of culture and historical facts, same as every country where the Koran and government are in the same room. A shame.
