Lumberjack Man (2015)
Who doesn't love a B movie!
I'm shocked by all the bad reviews! This film is special because it doesn't take itself too seriously. There is murder, comedy, suspense, religious satire, everything you want from a solid, B horror flick. MM is great in his role, as are all the supporting cast. This takes the classic slasher trope and makes it both funny and a bit shocking. The gore was appropriate and the story, for what it was, was solid. It hung together and had a consistent lore that tracked until the end. If you want a fun, slasher/scary film to watch with friends, I highly recommend this one! Just really good bloody fun.
The Nightmare (2015)
Not a medical review of the disorder
I came into this hoping it was human experiment mixed with practical scientific knowledge. Unfortunately it wasn't hypothesis/experiment or exploration/conclusion. It was "scary stories" that were clearly sleep paralysis, but no real psychological or scientific additives. They don't consult experts on psychology or sleep disorders. The only talked about what they wanted to talk about. They're pandering to the under 90 IQ which is a sad commentary on what their audience is. I would not recommend to anyone who has a brain. Very dissatisfying, and the rest are really ladders to get this published! Trash documentary!!!!!
Choose or Die (2022)
Was smart until it wasn't
The movie starts out as a smart hacker type film with some outrageous malware that comes into play. The film is great until it gets into the unbelievable. (Spoilers ahead) the lead actress loses her brother, but somehow at the end of the film believes she's following him into some foggy maze. It's just not believable and takes away from the atmosphere that's been wonderfully built up during the early course of the film. If it stayed its original course it would have been a great flick. Unfortunately it didn't. I wish I could recommend, but if you don't mind watching something that ends badly, this is for you.
FBI (2018)
Cast is great apart from one
The show is entertaining, and the characters are great apart from the lead actress, Maggie. I'll even admit that I almost stopped watching it because of her. She is annoying and doesn't add any value to the show, she detracts from it. When she was gone from several episodes in season 4 and 5 the remaining characters gelled more, the stories were better and more interesting and it flowed quite well. When they brought her back in season 5 the show lost its rhythm and the episodes got worse. The writers should really get rid of her, for the good of the content. Honestly, I don't recommend watching if they keep her on. Such a bad decision and there are better shows out there.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Much more than I expected - hidden gem
I'm a fan of horror and didn't expect this to be much different from what I normally watch, but boy was I surprised! Impeccably written and full of thought provoking content and genuinely dramatic emotions. The monologues work beautifully and add so much to the sorry, and some are outright moving. While in essence it's a tragedy, it mingles dark and scary aspects well to craft a great story. The acting is superb from top to bottom, creating real love or hate, depending on the character. While I don't generally watch religious content, the intertwining of horror and religion is done with expertise. I happily recommend this to my friends and family, it's definitely a hidden gem.
Detention of the Dead (2012)
A+ zombie comedy
For those of you who don't take life (or death) too seriously, this movie hits the spot! Stunning comedy that doesn't take itself seriously, Detention is hurrah to the end! I love it and highly recommend.
Crawlspace (2016)
Predictable but still fun
When you can figure out the outcome of the movie 19 minutes in you're likely in for a disappointment, but Within keeps you interested. Not be worst but don't be prepared for twists.
