The Mandalorian: Chapter 17: The Apostate (2023)
Are they cutting the Budget on Mando? It shows.
Thinking back to the beginning seasons, this episode in contrast just seems embarrassing. It's just not the level it used to be. There are cute moments with Grogu, but beyond that they have turned it into a low budget kid's show at times. The stand off with the pirates, literally looked like side show shot in a theme park, the characters were corny and it completely took me out of enjoying the show. It felt forced and fake. The captain of the pirates decorated in tinsel was even worse. The opening sequence trope of a huge monster take down is getting tired. Remember the prison ship episode? Brilliant! Do more of those. This is not the Mandalorian we know and love. I just hope it gets better. They are getting so lazy with what was once brilliant story telling. It used to be the shining light of Disney plus. They need to work a miracle and save this, because I really do love this show & Pedro, of course!
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
This movie is one long Hocus Pocus SNL Skit- So Sad 😭
When I watched the previews and saw the "plot" I kinda had an inkling that it wasn't going to be great. This is such a pale reflection of the original in every way. From the detail in the set design to the costumes everything lacked the true magic of the original. Bette, Jessica and Kathy still are wonderful together, but their magic alone couldn't save them from the terrible script. The music interludes were oddly placed, and not organic like in the original. Everything felt forced. From the moment the movie starts in Salem, you get the feeling like you are seeing a Set. A poorly dressed set. The original movie had an aura of mystery and at least some realism. This just felt rushed and cheap. What makes me sad is all they could have done with better detail and material. I could have written a better story in my sleep. Even Billy felt tonally off here. The main characters you don't really care about at all. You also don't really buy that they are truly afraid of the sisters. It has no urgency. They became parodies in their own movie. It's not a fatally bad movie if it was made just for children, but as a sequel to a movie that was so beloved, it just fails. It was sadly a waste of these talented ladies time. Man the possibilities of the right director and the right script along with just good movie making and I would be writing a different review. So sad 😭
The Time Traveler's Wife (2022)
Gotta Love a Naked falling Theo
I think this show has a lot of potential. The opening I would have cut entirely. Or done in a different way. The acting when both of the leads are being interviewed on camera is a little cheesy. I feel like Rose is going to all of a sudden go off topic and start selling me life insurance. It has that weird SNL skit vibe. Lol.
The thing that bothered me the most was the old age makeup on Theo! Dude that was unforgivably bad. It looked like old age makeup you would do for a high school play. It just fails. They should have stuck to the subtle old age that they do later in the show. That would have been 100% better. Sorry - makeup artist rant over.
But once you do get past the bad makeup opening it really picks up. The chemistry is great between Theo and Rose. Like I said I'll never get tired of watching Theo James fall from the sky naked. That man is beautifully made;) lol
This is a much more faithful adaptation than the movie. So far, I'm really hopeful that it can be great. I love a good Sci-Fi romance, and this one seems like it will be a fun ride.
