The masterpieces that Denis Villeneuve has brought us created a hype that this series could have easily taken advantage with at least average writing or character introduction.
However the interesting parts last merely a few moments and are overshadowed by conversation and back stories of characters we are not yet familiar with, but we have to care somehow about their backstories - which are also not very dynamic or engaging.
The creator of the series should have made a better study of the movies and their rhythm - what made them so compelling to the audience. Maybe ask for a bit of help in directing or character introduction, why not include casting in this as well.

I have just finished the first episode and it is easy to see that the team did a great job of adapting the book excellently to the modern era and taking place nowadays and not as is time frame in the book.
However, again such a miss with the casting of the lead protagonist - I was really hoping that the Woke shenanigans have stopped after ruining so many productions - a lot of them that were not having much value in the first place. Such a shame that they did this to these series, as here the potential was huge, and the series seem very good in all the parts where Eddie Redmayne takes the stage. Unfortunately, every time Lashana Lynch is on the screen, it is cringe time. If they did a proper casting and maybe stayed true in this matter to the source material, the series would have been very good, which it is unfortunately not with the miscasting. It is funny because in the first episodes it was not clear that she is also overweight, which makes the casting even worse now.
The screen writers at some point forgot that she was a just weapons expert in episode one, and not a super agent or whatever they were trying to sell us. It would have been also good if they remembered that the Jackal and his wife didn't meet just now, because the part of the plot with his wife makes no sense.
Also, a tip - if you skip all the parts of the show where Lashana shows up, the series is quite good.
