  • I guess it's just me again

Reading the comments here a lot of people comment on style and imagery. Fact is all of Fulci's movies are poorly shot. The soft focus and lack of lighting doesn't intensify the horror it really obscures it. I'm watching the film right now and what occurs to me is I don't enjoy it. And I didn't like Gates of Hell either. But I'm not a big gore person.

I don't think all the talk about what was originally shot or how it was meant to be seen apply because we have all of Fulci's library to draw on and his style is clear. He was never better than a mediocre director. His pieces didn't turn out and are disappointing because he either didn't have the talent or the craftsmanship to make them better.

I can only watch someone's eye popped out so many times before I start to want something more.

  • Brilliant

This movie is every bit as good as the good reviews here indicate and absolutely not for you if toy have ADD or need your horror spoon fed to you.

What I love about this movie most is the unflinching reveal of the final line of the movie. This is not a movie about insanity. It's a movie about.... well, you'll have to watch it to learn that, but like another movie with a similar subject, Frailty, it's about exactly what you would never believe exists... but it does. And that prospect in itself is horrifying in it's implications. Special effects are not needed although I must say the setting and sound effects to me are worth a billion dollars of ILM special effects.

I'd love to sit and have a discussion of this movie with intelligent horror fans. It's that darn good and original that you when the final knife twists you want to turn and ask someone "did that really happen?" And the answer is, "That's exactly what happened."

  • This made me angry

This movie made me angry not because it was really bad, almost all zombie movies are bad, but because it just ripped and ripped and ripped off Romero's movies without as much as a wink. It's not new to borrow from Romero but this is as unoriginal, boring and poorly executed as it gets.

I normally wouldn't slash another artist's work this way but looking at the IMDb comments here there are clearly planted 10 star reviews from interested parties and that's kind of lame.

The only good thing about this movie is two of the women who take off their tops have really great breasts. I can imagine the crew of this film hanging out and slapping themselves on the back for getting us to rent this but please stop making movies. It costs too much to go to Blockbuster and pick up two or three of these awful movies that no one seemed to put enough time or effort into making.
