The Marvels (2023)
I can only speak for myself. I absolutely loved it!!
I can only speak for myself. Not for others on this matter - because, that would be like "herding cats", pun intended😆. For me, I absolutely loved and enjoyed this movie. Sensed a touch of Disney-ness and, sorry, laughed my head off, especially at Carol's deadpan handling of those princess-ey moments. The franchise needed a new direction, something different (yet the same) and new doors open! That's what I've been crying for! And that's what I got! Why should I complain? No. I have no reason to complain. After the mega epic Endgame, like many, I too still wondered, where next... I see it now, this time, as I left the cinema. I just needed to relax, apply some objectivity and enjoy! I score this a nine, but it deserves no less than a 7.5 in my view.
Harry & Meghan: The Complete Story (2022)
Beautiful series. I've actually watched it.
Anyone expecting direct criticism of the Royal Family will be sorely disappointed. This is a beautiful story about human life and struggles - just like everybody else.
So, he sees a lot of his mum in his wife. This makes sense. In reality, probably all husbands see their mums in their wives. And wives see their dads in their husbands. It is 100% natural and reasonable.
What's funny is that many predictable reactions are just confirming the exact points being made in the Netflix Series. Some may now form source material for a possible Season 2.
Those who use labels like attention seekers and simply wrong. Let's not confuse what it means to "control the narrative", which is already public - as opposed to doing nothing and being defined publicly by any section of the Press. That is the opposite of attention seeking.
This beautiful series is very simple self defence and family safeguarding. Finally, I'd add that - Empathy, sensitivity and some emotional intelligence... We really need these values or traits to grow in the world today.
The Woman King (2022)
A must watch. It is genuinely Fantastic!
Thanks for making this hard hitting movie. A must watch for all. It helps shed more light on previous debates regarding the ugly, damaging human business. The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade - has kept much of the modern world in a perpetual state of PTSD... If you are a descendant of victims, you will be relieved that the full, true, or other side of the story is finally being told. And unless this side of the story is told, I believe healing will never really be complete. The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade was an evil human business between both Africa and Europe. Reality was not denied. There were attempts/struggles to end the horrible business of slavery within Africa too. The slavers LOST. The movie is deeply philosophical. Slavery was NOT glorified! Instead the ugliness and self-harm was highlighted! The movies helps us look at ourselves in the mirror.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Fantastic action movie...
One of those movies you can watch again and again and still enjoy the story with it's many iconic and super-cool fight scenes. This classic sometimes reminds me of the ever re-watchable "Blade Trilogy".
Obviously, I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this. But will the makers dare give us a sequel? Especially in this age of so many prequels.......? Come on!
I rate this a ten/ten without hesitation. The character development and flashbacks, CGI and human actors, all blended so well. It had one of the most inviting trailers and when I got to watch it, I was not disappointed.
The choice of 'Rosa Salazar' as Alita deserves that shout out: "You nailed it!!!". Same could be said of 'Christoph Waltz' and 'Mahershala Ali'. Great performances. I honestly cannot imagine anyone else in those roles in particular. This feel-good movie is recommended and the 12A age rating is appropriate.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Pleasantly unique storytelling & I love it
This is what I love about Disney/Marvel's style, doing things in a non-predictable way, yet staying true to the core. I enjoyed this and so did my teenage kids. We laughed and laughed.
Criticism about cgi quality should be taken on board, but, to be honest, it really does not affect the big fun factor. Fantastically funny cousin banter and dynamics between He and She Hulk.
My only disappointment is the fact that, after all this time waiting for the series release, Disney+ only dropped a single episode last week.
That miserly approach really felt a bit frustrating. Anyway, maybe I'll skip watching the painfully slow weekly release until the entire season is available for streaming. Well done Disney+Marvel.
Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022)
Honestly🤣, I can't stop laughing...
Just what the world needs! I could watch this on holiday, two or three times a day, with my teen kids. Refreshing, pure fun every time. Well done Illumination.
Left to me, I would sit all the world leaders, currently involved in wars or conflicts, right in front of a big screen to enjoy this chuckle-fest and hopefully calm things down and make peace ✌🏾
WION: Gravitas Plus (2020)
Extremely biased....
Hopefully, over time some fairness and balance is acquired. For now, reports are over-the-top, anti-west and anti-former-colonialist nations. It seems any position that projects democracies as the 'bad guy' will get projected or emphasised. This is unfortunate and really sad because the speakers can clearly do better. This is 2022, not 1922.
We the People (2021)
Absolutely Fantastic...
Absolutely fantastic and groovy introduction to a life of responsibility. Perfect for youth engagement. Well done to all those involved. This series is recommended. Ignoring the poor, obviously politically motivated negative reviews is also recommended. Proudly conservative, but this is sincerely, mostly masterful art.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Absolutely Fantastic & UNIQUE (because the real enemy is in the mirror/me)!!!
Deep and relatable. With life lesson after life lesson. It's a must-watch (again and again) with an open mind! Best of all, my older kids loved it!
The New WW outfit is superb! Young WW is awesome! Personally, I suggest a full length movie around the young WW character's development!
Note: there were a couple of plastic attempts at comedy around the beginning of the movie, but even the cringe worthy moment/s makes me chuckle & laugh as I write!
Altogether, a very Warm Movie and I give this 10 stars without hesitation, especially for it's originality in not having a big, bad evil character.
Some viewers tried to link the lead character to a certain world leader, whose surname starts with a T, but I strongly disagree!
The real enemy REVEALED is in all of us, including WW! Now that's so deep, while dishing out fantastic fight scenes and visual effects!
Well done DC Comics for the risk and originality!! On this occasion, at least for me, you have definitely outdone Marvel.
Harmony (2018)
I loved it. It has a 'cloak & dagger' (marvel comics) dark romance feel to it. Proper "lock-down" era movie!😎
I loved it. However, I also appreciate it may not be for everyone or anyone looking for a quick action rush from the regular super-powered being movie.
It has a bit of cloak & dagger (marvel comics) dark romance feel to it. Personally, I think it ended in a way that makes one look forward to maybe a more action packed part two, three, etc.
I think this movie is even more relevant now in 2020! That is, now that we are in a period of pandemic lock-downs, isolation, 'everybody-face-your-fears', loneliness, loss, adjustment/drastic change to routines, etc.
I would recommend it. The age rating is right at 15. The acting was really good and believable, though the story flow seemed a bit choppy in one or two parts. Nevertheless, I loved it!
Jiu zhou: Piao miao lu (2019)
Epic journey, endless twists, absolutely fantastic (despite shambolic subtitles)👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is an excellent series. About 5 seasons in one. Highly recommended.
So, engaging, scenic, beauty, battles, intrigues, love triangles, sorcery, money, power, good vs evil, amazing culture display... one can go on and on.
One can't help being drawn into the fantasy world - despite the obviously very poor subtitles (money-back required from whoever did that task).
It is a great shame that the show is reported as having been cancelled. A great shame indeed.
Hope they have a change of mind.🙏🏽
Next Gen (2018)
Touching and Relatable - LOVED IT! 😎
Fantastic Movie!
It has that Family-feel, quite like Finding Nemo or Finding Dory.
To varying degrees, most kids and adults will relate directly with the family dynamics, the challenges of growing up, some anger, some rebellion and of course the key role of TECHNOLOGY in enabling 'AVOIDANCE' of Life's Problems!
Great also that not too much time was spent on sad aspects of life, with loads of action and a hilarious sidekick puppy filling up most of the time.
The only way to avoid relating with this is if you have grown up in an absolutely perfect family environment and know no one who has experienced family problems.😇
The Messengers (2015)
'Potential' screaming everywhere
I really enjoyed the 'Legion' movie and 'Dominion' TV series... loving their twist on apocalyptic supernatural action. So, naturally I admit, viewers like me desperately want this to do well and/or do better.
Like every potentially great series should have, there are lovable characters to care for and tensely hope survive from episode to episode. There are also annoying hate-worthy characters one wants destroyed but continue to cause havoc.
It seems the producers and directors are to blame for being in too much of a hurry with this though. I have seen some of these actors acting much more naturally and better in other films and series.
Overall still, I personally find this enjoyable maybe just as a fan of such story lines.
However one sometimes feels there could be or there should have been more to this or that... action-wise, superpower-wise or sci-fi special effects-wise.
It is such a shame I hear the series has been cancelled already.
