Jennifer's Body (2009)
Underrated
A comedy horror that almost mocks teen flicks. It's not scary in the slightest, but it is gory and gross in area's. It takes all the normal tropes and shakes them up a bit.
As we follow Anita (Amanda Seyfried) through her daily teenage life and her overly complicated friendship with Jennifer (Megan fox). Things soon take a satanic turn and then bodies start showing up... Their friendship will be tested.
Even though Megan Fox is on the cover and her character name is on the title. Amanda Seyfried is the star in this film. We follow her point of view and experiences in the movie. And unfortunately she also out shines Megan with her acting skills. Fox was the eye candy, but Seyfried really lit up the movie. If you don't mind a bit of gore, its an interesting teen flick.
Day of the Woman (1978)
Hard to Watch
The entire movie can be summed up into rape and death. There's not much more to it. I'm currently trying to watch all the horror classics. And I was hesitant on this one. Being a woman, and watching it, I had to look away for most of the rape scenes. They are extremely graphic with nudity. And very long. Just as you think its over, it keeps going.
The first quarter of the film is setting up the scene. The next two quarters of the movie is the never ending rape. And the last quarter is the revenge. It felt like they didn't spend enough time on the revenge killings. They were too quick. The movie does have a strong message in trying to dish out where the blame lies. Which felt strongly unneeded. There really is next to no acting skills or script in the film. And there's no music track.
Violet & Daisy (2011)
Awkward, Clumsy and Almost Boring
I was excited to watch this because I really like Saoirse Ronan's acting and I don't mind Alexis Bledel. And to add in a little splash of fun they had Tatiana Maslany. Unfortunately it didn't take long to realize I was walking into something that wasn't worth my time.
It started out really strong then came to a sudden hault. The movie felt like a theatrical play. Most of it took place in one apartment with three people. The entire movie seemed to be about, Should I, or should I not kill this man. As they pretty much hung out with him at his place.
It started out feeling like a Charlies Angles movies, with Kids as the main characters. But then it just died in plot and motion. And what was really weird is they had the girls come across innocent and child like. And yet there was no regard for human life. They also didn't explain much. And it didn't help that Alexis Bledal looked like she wanted to laugh half the time.
The movie had so much potential with the great cast. It just needed a good story and plot. More places for the characters to go. More targets to kill. More story in general.
Borderlands (2024)
What a Let Down
I watched this a little while ago, and I can barley remember what the movie was about. Which is really saying something because I have an amazing memory when it comes to films.
I was really excited because I love the cast. Cate Blanchett is one of my all time favorite actresses. I'm also a fan of Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Hart. And after just watching Fallout and the new Deadpool I was really pumped for this movie.
Unfortunately I was let down fast. The problem wasn't the cast, it was whoever wrote the film. The movie is a gigantic cliche, mixed in with a whole lot of empty. Making it not memorable in anyway. If you've seen one scene, you've pretty much seen it all. It's the same thing on repeat. And even though I love Cate Blanchett dearly, she was unfortunately too old of an actress to play the lead role. It needed to go to a younger counter part to make it more relatable to the audience. She was supposed to be this cool, hot, bad-butt character but failed miserably. The movie had an odd pace to it. And there was no depth in any part of the story. It was all action from one scene to the next. The plot was almost non existent. It's really too bad the film was done so poorly. Especially with so many A list actors. It had so much potential to be great.
La religieuse (1966)
It's a Long One.
Not the easiest movie to watch. The Nun is a french speaking film that follows a women who had no desire to be a nun, but is forced by circumstances out of her will.
The movie is very dry and very long. The acting is really good. The main women who we follow are very strong actors. But there is no music in the movie and it's a simple plot. That doesn't give much for the viewer to sink their teeth into. It is nice to have an inner look at the life of a nun and the circumstances behind people who took their vows. The movie really brings things to light. But the film gets exhausting by the length of a single story. Which is about one women who can't except her life as being a nun and is constantly fighting it and trying to escape it. Even when she gets sent to a really good coven, she still cant except that this is her life. And yet she has no other choice.
When we finally do get to the end of the film, it's not a good ending. After enduring the long length of the movie, they sure gave one depressing ending. Which in all honestly made no sense to me. It really didn't need to end like that.
Idiocracy (2006)
Not Funny
Normally I enjoy these kind of movies, but I found this one hard to sit through. I was waiting for the funny scenes that would make me laugh but never came across any. The future society was not just dumb, but beyond dumb that it was too over the top.
I think it's hard to see because we always imagine the future being this amazing place, but whoever thought this up took it to the next degree of wow, could people really turn out this way?
I enjoyed the cast, but didn't find it funny. It's like having a group of five year old boys, who are extremely in mature, not that bright and somehow they consists of the behavior and intelligence of all society. I think the country would have been invaded and taken over many times before it got this bad.
Uglies (2024)
Give it a Chance
I'm not sure why everyone hates this film. I know it's based off of the books. They came out when I was a teenager many years ago. I never read the books, so I don't know if the movie follows them. But they were targeted for a younger audience. I do understand that the overall concept is very fluffy and unrealistic. But in the movie, the entire society has been so brainwashed into believing that being pretty is all you need and want, so it's not their fault at this point.
I liked the technology in the movie, it was creative and fun. The plot flows well. It's not a deep movie, but a simple teen flick. The actors are a lot older in real life than what they are trying to be in the movie, which is unfortunate. And the oddest thing was that they picked a transgendered woman to represent the most pretty and truest woman as the leader of the Pretties. But other then that I wouldn't call it a bad movie. It was entertaining and held my attention. It had a fantasy style to it. And a cliche love story. Could it have been better? Yes. But it's not horrible. Something to waist an evening with.
The Wrath of Becky (2023)
Better then the First
I watched the first movie then immediately watched this one. Part two was much better than part one. I think it's better because you know what's coming. You see her being bullied or harassed and you're like "kill them becky!" It's like you know a secret that no one else knows. And it followed true as a sequel by bringing back the same dog and continuing with some of the story from the first.
The plot was more put together than the first film. And it's also creative with its kills. The movie is definitely an upgrade as we enter more into Rambo style. Mixed in with a little dark humor. Also Sean Williams really surprised me by being the villain. He pulled it off well.
Loved the ending. And I really hope they continue this with a part three or even a series would be fantastic.
Becky (2020)
Don't Mess With Becky
A really simple film, but oddly entertaining. A mixture of Home Alone and Rambo put together. Very serious and extra gory. Becky who comes across as a normal teenage girl is quickly put to the test when things go horribly wrong and she's backed into a corner...
I wasn't sure if Kevin James was going to pull it off as a bad guy, but he did a really good job. Lulu Wilson (Becky) was easily the star in this one. She really gave a good performance with her eyes and facial expressions. The story had a lot of holes in it and it didn't explain a lot. The plot was really basic, but all-in-all its a fun action flick. Just be prepared for some really hardcore gore.
Boy Kills World (2023)
Similar To Kill Bill. Great Action Flick
Reminds me of Kill Bill style. I might be one of the few who loved this movie, but I honestly did. And I hope they make a part two.
The movie has the same over the top gore like kill bill. And has a ton of fighting, action scenes. And some great dark comedy. What surprised me was the story. I really enjoyed the plot with the twists and turns. The ending was really well done and thought out. The characters were awesome. And so were the actors. I honestly can't complain about anything. I really liked the facial expressions of the main character. And the voice chosen for him was great.
The movie was a dark comedy, action, kill, kill flick. If you're prepared for that and it sounds like your thing, then definitely give it a go.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
They Took It To a Whole Other Level Of Weird
I'm a big fan of the original so I went in excited since it has the same director and a lot of the original cast. It didn't take long before I was widely disappointed. The movie was a mess with no real plot, only many sub plots. It made it cluttered and all over the place. There was lots of gore mixed in with some icky gross scenes. And it was just missing something.
The main thing I loved about the original was the campy family feel. It was a dark comedy that was corney and fun. Mixed in with a little of the weird. The new movie is far from funny, fun or family feeling. It's very dark, very gross and very weird. I did enjoy that the movie delved further into the other world. We got to see more of this which was a big plus. And it was very creative.
The biggest downfall of the film is the confusing plot. There really is no straightforward big plot. Instead its many side plots. Cluttered with them to the point where some of them were very unnecessary and annoying. Like the "bad guy" coming to get them. Or the mothers boyfriend. The movie would have been better without both of these sub plots. Just focusing on the under world would have been enough.
Having the original cast was fantastic. It really made it feel like a true sequel.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Welcome Back MCU
Wow, what a movie. From start to finish it was good. Everything you would expect from a Deadpool film and much more. I'm a massive fan of both Wolverine and Deadpool, putting them together was the right choice. Truly a fabulous film full of action, comedy and just down right grit. What a wonderful revival to the MCU. Some of the best parts of the entire movie was all the tie ins. I love the old marvel films, I grew up watching them, and finally for the first time they are added to the MCU. Plus so much more I never expected. After watching this movie it really makes me want to go back and watch more Marvel films. I hope they continue in this direction. And I really hope there is a Deadpool part four. Well worth the watch if you're a fan of the Deadpool movies or Marvel in general.
6 Souls (2010)
B-Rated Horror flick
After reading the description of the movie I thought it was going to be a fun psychological thriller about a mental patient and the doctor trying to crack the case. The movie starts out that way and then takes some wild turn that had me thinking "what on earth?" The movie turned into something so different then I expected by diving deep into religion.
Great cast. The main reason why the movie is worth a viewing is if you love Julianne Moore or Jonathan Meyers. Both actors are excellent as always. Where the movie takes a noise dive, is in the story. It starts out very interesting. A deep mystery to crack. The movie is very simple, but the "what is going on" kept me wanting to watch more. Then about two thirds in, the movie takes a massive spin and gets very weird and choppy. And leaves more plot holes then I can count. It was like they bit off more then they could chew. And thought to themselves, how can we quickly end this? The film then became some kind of B-rated horror demonic flick. And the ending was just cruel.
The main heavy message of the movie is, bad things will happen when you don't choose God. Hold strong to your faith... I have no idea why this message is in this movie.
The Beekeeper (2024)
Statham Kicking Butt As Always
Another Jason Statham movie. As all of his films, he's just awesome. Lot's of action in this one as Statham comes out swinging.
I enjoyed it. It's predictable, if you've seen one of Stanthem's films you've pretty much seen them all. But I do enjoy his movies and this was a nice treat. He was bad-butt awesome. Like John Wick level.
The story was interesting and held my attention. The only very annoying and disappointing part of the movie was Agent Parker and her police partner. I kept asking why she was even in the movie. She's a horrible actor. And the character helped in no way. Completely useless and unnecessary. And why on earth did they think they could stop him? They see a mass of dead bodies and yet they're quickly running towards him and think they can stop him even though no one else could? He lets them live and the moment he does they quickly chase after him? Why? It was just about filling scenes. There was a lot of filler scenes in the movie that really didn't need to be there and made no sense. Which brought down the quality of the movie. But if you're able to ignore most of that it's a half decent film.
The Fall Guy (2024)
Nothing serious, Non-stop action
This is a true guy flick. It's a movie where the action never ends. With very little story. And they threw in a romance that is crazy shallow and very corney.
A movie about people making a movie. Plus adding in a side plot. The stunts were great and it was fun seeing how things were done. Kind of a behind the scenes look at how movies are filmed. The acting was top par and the filming was perfect. Personally it was too much action for me and not enough serious story. The story was very shallow and predictable. I kept rolling my eyes at this love story they had going, which is mostly just eye candy and hero gets girl. I was hoping for more of a real look at a stunt mans life, without the extra over the top side story and action that never wanted to stop.
It's a fun movie if you love non stop action and explosions.
Space Cadet (2024)
Why?
A feel good movie, that you can only watch with zero expectations and thoughts.
I had a hard time enduring the film because of how out to lunch it was. I know that movies are fake most of the time. And it's about going wherever your imagination can take you, but this movie took it a little too far with a serious tone. It took a very serious subject and tried to reason out why this could be possible. When in reality it could never be possible. It makes NASA look bad. If it was supposed to be a fluffy parody or comedy, then it needed more comedy to it. Nothing about the movie was funny. And some of the characters were hard to endure. What really tipped me over the edge of not enjoying this film was the ending. I normally love unrealistic films, but this was something else.
Fallout (2024)
More Please
Finally, a new series that captivates my attention. I binge watched the entire thing in two days. It was that good.
The series is very different than the usual. It brings the viewer into a whole new world. It was nice not knowing what to expect from one episode to another. The mystery in the show really captivated me. It was well thought out and threaded into the story. The humor in the series is fantastic and really makes it come alive. There's a lot of nasty gore, but it's usually done with a humours effect. Mixed in with this wild, apocalyptic world where anything can happen we have these amazing characters we follow. We see their stories and how they interact with the world they are in. Each very different then the other giving us a very different perspective on what is going on. Overall a great fantasy, apocalyptic, survival show. I really hope they make a second season. It really does have an original feel to it and there's plenty more of the world they could explore.
Abigail (2024)
A Fun Thriller
Simple and yet entertaining. It's really not much of a horror film. More of a thriller. There is an insane amount of blood as people seem to be bursting, literally into massive blood splatters.
It's a simple story. Not much to uncover, very little layers to it. But as all vampire movies go, it's fun to watch. And it's more comical than anything. I think the biggest down fall to the movie were the criminals. For being big bad guys they were really wimpy. They felt like normal people trying to be bad thugs. I didn't hate any of them, instead they were relatable characters which made it harder to watch the outcome. It would have been more believable and enjoyable to watch the bad guys die if they actually felt like bad guys.
There were a few things that didn't make sense and it was really easy to read where the movie was going as they gave away so many hints. But overall a fun thriller to waist an evening with. And Alisha Weir was absolutely fantastic as Abigail. The whole evil child theme is always an eery one to watch and she really delivers.
Orphan Black: Echoes (2023)
A Massive let Down
I loved the original Orphan Black. It's one of my favourite series. I was quite excited to see where this new one was going to take the story. Unfortunately I was so let down.
There is no grit. There is no real mystery to uncover or bad guy to take out. There are no deep onion layers to dig through. Or cool exciting characters to find. It's so fluffy and boring compared to the original series.
The writing is so bad. The show could have been summoned up in one episode and yet somehow they manage to drag it out for 10 by adding in too many empty filler scenes that it gets boring fast. They had a great cast, but no real story to act out. What's even more disappointing is that this is supposed to be the future. And yet there is no future tech. No cool costumes. Everything is the same, except everyone has an electric car, and there's less violence. Where is the creativity? Where is the cool tech? To make it even worse they have Kira looking like a sixty year old. Which means Sarah and the other clones would be in their eighties. And yet they talk like they are young and spry and out saving the world. To top it all off, they didn't do one episode with Tatinan Maslany.
In the original Orphan black, cloning was bad. You got people playing god and making armies of clones. Everyone wanted power... it's understandable. But in this new series, remind me again what is so bad about printing a dead loved one? No one is making clone armies here. No one is selling prints for money or personal gain. The answer that they give you in the series is that, it's heartless to bring a teenager into the world that has no past memory of who they are. We need to stop this and rescue them so that they aren't confused about who they are... what is so evil about this?
Another thing that makes no sense is why the richest man on earth only has three body guards to do his biding. These three people better bring down the bad scary prints and if they can't do it... no one can.
To top it all off, I made it through all ten episodes hoping the end would end with a bang of some riddled plot that makes you finally feel like you've found out a secret and uncovered evil. It's a let down.
Sister My Sister (1994)
A Sad, Dark, True Story
I was intrigued to watch this because it's based on a true story, but I felt cautious due to its content of lesbian incest. Soon after watching the movie all my cautions vanished. It's surprisingly a good film, very dark, but well constructed.
I think the reason the movie does so well with the sensitive subject matter is that the sisters never feel like sisters. They feel like lovers from the first time you see them. And the relationship comes across as mutual. It's done in a very gentle manner that shows so much love and kindness between the two. And then as the film goes on we see a decent into madness. But you can't help but feel for the sisters and thair horrible circumstances and life. From abuse to isolation to really only having each other its understandable what happened in the end.
The movie is dark especially how things end up. For only having four characters in the movie, it did a really good job with keeping its intensity and pace. I never felt board. The acting was amazing. Jodhi May who play Lea made those panic attacks look and feel real. Her anxiety was palpable. Joely Richardson who played Christine was fabulous with the extreme intensity she brought to the screen. One moment she could be the embodiment of kindness and love. The next she is a raging mad woman.
I looked into the facts of the true story behind this movie and felt a little disappointed. It does follow the story pretty well and adds in all the main points. But the real story is more awful and intense. And would have made a better movie if they would have followed it more closely. It would have been nice to have added more of the backstory of their childhood to give more context for their actions. And they were abused by their employer for years causing them to come to the end of themselves. It's a really interesting read. It's too bad they didn't add in more.
Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001)
It's Made for Kids
Anyone who loved the original, this dose not compare in anyway. The original was magical and great for all audiences. Lady and the Tramp 2 is very kiddied down. It's about Tramp's son who is pretty much a defiant teenager who wants to do things his own way. Wants to be free from his life at home. We watch as he finds young puppy love, new friends and slowly grows up into a more mature dog. It's a coming of age story.
There are a lot of songs. No real bad guy, even the pound is no longer scary like it was on the original. The love story feels cheap and oddly out of place considering Scamp is a little puppy. It's directed more for a younger audience. I loved watching this movie as a kid, but now as an adult I find it difficult to watch.
There are many plot holes, like the movie is supposed to take place right after the first. We know this because the baby boy is still a baby. Which means Tramp has maybe been off the streets for a year. And yet they have him acting like he's an old man, ten years older. Has completely forgotten the streets and denies ever being a street dog. And it doesn't make sense that the owners kept all the puppies. They would have sold them. The only nice thing about the movie is that they kept the same art style and vibrant colors.
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
All Bark and No Bite
I absolutely loved the first season. They were setting up a wonderful world where witches, demons and vampires all lived in. It felt realistic and magical. There was a wonderful mystery to uncover that made me binge watch the entire first season. I thought to myself, where has this been hiding? It felt magical and exciting as the viewer slowly got to see Diana's abilities come forth. There was a great mixture of good vs evil that made you sit on the edge of your seat. Above all the cast was phenomenal. Throughout the entire series Matthew Goode was extraordinary with his talent of acting. His character depth and growth was amazing. The love story was beautifully written and so cleverly done. Above all the sets and costumes and such were gorgeous. The older buildings, items and books were stunning.
After watching season one I was so excited for season two and three, I had thought to myself, why was this series ever canceled. Then I soon found out... Season two is where the series need to expand and show more of the world they had set up. But it didn't, it stayed small. By the time we got to season three I had a hard time finishing it.
The problem with the show, is that it's all bark and no bite. Everyone is always threatening everyone. Everyone is plotting and scheming. And yet nothing comes of it. All the threats are empty. What's even more odd, is that we see the heads of the family, we see the seats of power, but we never see the army. There is no foot soldiers. There is no one to command, which makes no sense. Every king and queen has an army to back-up their threats or protect them. The series was lacking in the volume of people. It barely showed anyone but a handful of major players. And yet those major players seemed to be completely alone. There is no power or strength in the lone wolf. It got really annoying when they kept bringing up the Knights of Lazarus. They would threaten all the time about being the leader, or wanting to change them. And yet they never showed us any knights, no army, nothing. Empty words.... When someone finally does decide to do something, it's the leader of the group that makes the attack, alone. Do you ever see a queen or king go out to battle and attack alone? Normally the leaders are the last line of defence on the battle field. Where are the soldiers that they command?
Another odd thing about the series was the demons. They never showed us what makes demons different than humans. They look the same, they act the same, whats the difference? The series really should have been called "The Book of Life" The entire series revolved around getting the book. And the final episode wraps everything up in a very quick rush of disappointment.
The main two actors was the biggest draw to the show. They stand out wonderfully and are exciting to watch. They are magical on screen. Everyone else is very boring because they don't have a very interesting role in the series. They're just kinda there. Did any of them really help? Were they really useful? Were the bad guys really even necessary, what did they even achieve with all their talking, how did they slow down the good guys? The series lacked in giving any character real weight in the show other than the main two characters.
Superfast! (2015)
It's Bad, but Oddly Funny
I'm not sure why, but I tend to watch all the spoof movies created by the same people who made this one. And oddly enough I enjoy them. Yes, there's a reason they all have horrible ratings. Some of the spoof movies are even on the lowest rated movie list in IMDB. Are they good? No, not really. I think that's why I like them. They're so silly that they're somewhat funny. I like that they make fun of famous movies. Movies that we all love. Could it have been done in a more tasteful way? Yes. But still, it's nice to watch something that doesn't need any thinking. If you've seen one spoof movie from Jason Friedburg and Aaron Seltzer then you've pretty much seen them all. They all have similar jokes and style.
Superfast is better than some of the other spoof's I've seen. It's actually pretty funny in some areas. I love the way they made fun of Dwayne Johnston. That was perfect. The biggest downfall to the movie was the length of it. They somehow managed to fit in the first five fast and the furious movies into this single one. It gets a little exhausting after while when every single line in the movie is a joke. There are some cringe scenes as per usual. But over all it was still enjoyable. One of the better Spoof movies from Friedburg and Seltzer.
Balto (1995)
Another Great Animation Film for the Entire Family
A fun cartoon for the entire family to enjoy. I really liked watching this movie as a kid and I still enjoy it as an adult. The animation isn't as beautiful as Disney but the characters and story is really well put together. Especially the villain and the hero dynamic. It's done in a very dramatic way that clear cuts who you're rooting for and rings out the massage of, don't judge someone for how they look, but who they are in the inside.
Balto is about a half wolf, half dog who just wants to belong. We follow Balto as he finds himself, finds love and goes against all odds to deliver medicine to dying children. There are no songs in this one, it's a very serious cartoon that's filled with adventure and a great story.
The movie falls short in the voice actors. Kevin Bacon was not the man for the job. His voice is very flat and fails at giving life to Balto. His voice is too rough and deep. Emotion is missing from the voice actors, especially Kevin Bacon. The side characters were fantastic. I loved the mafia duck and the cute polar bears.
There is a true story of a Husky named Balto who delivered medicine to people dying in Alaska. The dog covered over 50 miles in extreme weather. But this movie is very loosely based on the true story. It's mostly fiction. But it's nice that it makes a viewer want to look up the true story and learn about what happened.
Lady and the Tramp (1955)
Wholesome for the Whole Family
Lady and the Tramp is good for all ages. It takes adult concepts of forbidden love and getting caught up with the bad boy and puts it in a cute cartoon about dogs. It's not dulled down to complete kiddie level, but instead holds it's own for all ages. With a mixture of a romance story, a fun adventure and decent action. It's very wholesome and has some great scenes with the trouble making Siamese cats and the famous candle lit, spaghetti eating scene. There are great side characters and a fun plot.
I love the detail and color. All the colors are very vibrant and lively. And the detail in each frame is astounding. The thought and care that went into creating this masterpiece is clearly seen from start to finish.
I also really enjoyed the fact that Lady and the Tramp has very few songs in it. It's less of a musical and more of a normal cartoon. It's fun and easy to watch. Great for the whole family.
