Normally you would expect a film to differ from a book, because translating a book into a film is impossible ... There just is no way of completely translating everything from a book onto the screen in a running time of 2 or even 3 hours, so that is a given ... However this travesty is like a lesson in how not to do it ... The characterisation and even most of the story has been obliterated ... The book manages, quite simply to create a great dirty, hard, unforgiving world of Ancient Greece with characters you care about ... This doesn't even try ... This is just some shallow fluff with names from the characters in the book tossed in so they can make a film about a volcano erupting ... And they don't even do that well ... Tragic.

I mean !!! The morons at the BBFC here in Britain put this completely indescribable, incompetent to the point of art, cannibal offering thing on the video nasties list, back in the day : )))) ... This says a lot more about the BBFC than it does about the film of course ... Even for a NO budget film this is a complete misfire ... So much so that if you are in the right mood and you know something about its history and have seen any of the better films of the genre, it may ... MAY ... Give you an hour or so of the giggles ... It says more about the state of Britain at the time than anything else, because this little stinker would never have seen a digital, let alone hi def, release if it wasn't for the precious idiots at the BBFC : ))))

Honestly, this is like some treacle trickle soap opera, with incidences of violent crime ... Its not creepy ( apart from the fact that anyone though the script was good enough to be made ... Its not interesting ( same old same old only more like Days of our Lives with a food problem storyline ) ... I can't find anything good or bad to say about it really ... Its just one of those things that are there if you want to waste hours of your life ... It offers, at least in the first 3 episodes, so little of anything of interest that I couldn't be bothered to waste anymore of my time on it, as it certainly wasn't even entertaining ... And I mean in ANY WAY.
