Trap (2024)
Another fun Night movie with a great lead
Josh Hartnett makes this film. It's worth it just to see his multi faceted portrayal in the lead. The story was unbelievable but so what. It was a fun psychological thriller. His daughter was also good. The profiler is miscast but get over it and just enjoy watching Hartnett's facial expressions go from loving to loopy to psychotic to sad to panicked. The music isn't bad either and there are cringe moments, but it's amusing, tense, and you actually end up rooting for the serial killer. People moan there's no blood or gore, but that's refreshing to see a film that's not dependent on it. Enjoy it and watch Hartnett enjoy himself.
The Nurse (2023)
Tense unbelievable true story
The negative reviews are nuts as usual from people who don't get decent tv. Well acted, tense, doesn't go for mainstream twisting of the truth. One of the few decent programmes on netflix. People who say it was bad acting, mention the smoking scene, and that hospitals aren't like this need to get in touch with real life. They snuck the cigs and alcohol in to the hospital, it was a notoriously bad hospital anyway in a rough area, and the acting was excellent. It's a little slow in places, but a terrible true story told better than a lot of the rubbish around these days. Watch it and wonder how this could have gone on for so long.
Moonage Daydream (2022)
It's not a biography, it's a senses attack.
Saw this in IMAX 2d. Loud, vivid, it's not a biography, it's an exploration and celebration of Bowie's life, art, and music. Made up of clips cleverly edited together and enhanced to make this a cinematic experience . See it as big and loud as you can and get lost in Bowie. It needs to be three hours longer to fit in everything the stuff others are moaning about not being there. I'd happily have done another 3 hours of this. Came out wanting to listen to all the album's again and smoke cigarettes and bleach my hair and wear a raincoat. Everything i wanted to be in the eighties, I want again after watching Bowie come to life once more.
The Batman (2022)
Nothing will ever come close to dark Knight
Too long, too dark, too much voice over, too much dramatic moodiness, not enough car, not enough water, disappointing riddler, great penguin, nice cat, but mostly, just too much wannabe dark and moody and boring.
Peacemaker (2022)
Best superhero yet
Violent, funny, sexy, but mostly funny. The best of all the spin offs so far. Thought it'd be rubbish, but was the opposite. Don't let your littlies near it, but for 16 up, good entertainment.
The Tourist (2022)
Best beeb for a while
Good, twisting and amusing entertainment. Get over the little issues and enjoy the whole: characters, laugh out louds, tension, surprises, feel goods, feel sads. Top quality TV.
The Last Duel (2021)
surprisingly good
A good film that deserves better viewing figures. Great acting , and wouldn't be surprised if Jody and Matt get nominations for some awards. Affleck was surprisingly good as the decadent nasty boy. Slow in place, but worth it for the acting, the story and the ending.
No Time to Die (2021)
this has killed Bond for me
After years of enjoying the fun and action with Bond, this was cheesy, boring, non-imaginative and the ruin of a legend. How can there even be talk of who will play the next Bond when this has happened? Is it going to be like a Marvel multiverse, where anything can now happen? Sad it had to go this way. If they start anew and set it in the 60s , then there might be hope.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
oh come on, it was a good thriller
OK if you read the book, there's some missing stuff, but for a thriller with some excitement and intrigue, it was good.
Stowaway (2021)
well acted, tense, but did he screw himself?
All when and good, and moody music, and good acting, and spinning stars, but throughout the whole thing, how did he screw himself into a panel???? A very weak weak weak story point, ruined what would have been above average space thingy. Away did it all much better.
The Serpent (2021)
Top quality television
A haunting, uncomfortable, disturbing true story told with the feel and style of 70s film. The sense of the 70s is spot on and the acting is outstanding. Get past the discomfort of the first episode and lose yourself in what follows. This somehow shows great respect and remorse for the victims, and makes you rightfully hate the man.
The Salvation (2014)
classic revenge western
I enjoyed this. Bleak, tense, satisfying. Also interesting that three of the actors were all in Bond films as villains or girls.
Lupin (2021)
Good old fashioned fun
Don't know the Lupin books, but I do know I enjoy this. Verging on over the top at times, but the acting is excellent, as is the suspense, humour, and fun. Most enjoyable TV for a while which has not had blood, guts and bad taste, just a bit of adventure.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
My favourite superhero plummets
Loved the first one. Exciting, fun and original. 1984 is dull, stupid and boring. The trailer was brilliant, but where is Blue Monday in the film? Watch the trailer only and dream what could and should have been.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
If it was unknown actors, the rating would be higher
This was a good film, a little unbelievable with one icy moment, but I think people expected more because of Clooney. If it had been a lesser known actor and less hyped, it would be higher rated. Me and my 13 tear old enjoyed it despite the faults. And it was moving too.
