The IT Crowd: The Dinner Party (2007)
Just look at Catherine shepherd
I don't think you can laugh as much because of Catherine shepherd's character in this episode..."getting to know you getting to know all about you...hello I'm a fish"
Every line she has in this episode is diamond and she carries it brilliantly!
The whole episode is an masterclass in comedic timing
IT crowd is one of those comedies that slips under the radar but should be enjoyed as one of the greatest sitcoms the UK has every produced...
From mos going through the motions of marriage to Richmond enjoying her skull to Roy being the most idiotic man on earth this episode is one of the greatest of an already great series.
Green Mothers Club (2022)
Wow...this is looking a bit special!!!!
First off let me start by saying I've just finished watching ep 5 and felt the need to write something...
This series so far has been brilliant!!!
The acting by the kids is amazing it just reiterates my thinking that Korea has some of the best child actors in the world ,and as for the actress who plays Jin ha her acting is superb!!!watch out for the scene when she realises about Eun Pyos mum...heartbreaking
I have to say midway through the first episode I switched off thinking it was heading down one of those jokey Kdramas due to the silly music and some so called comedic scenes,
But then it started picking up and I just couldn't stop watching, you know somethings brewing then ep 5...absolutely brilliantly written and shot, the last 10 mins of that episode has made me write this now...the acting and the music in that final 10 mins is brilliant...also I never write a review midway through a series, that's how much I rate this series.
How this has got such negative reviews I don't understand!
I'm going to finish it and give my full verdict but have to say this has been highly addictive!! (I've literally watched five straight episodes,it's 2am and I have to watch the 6th!!!)
VIP (2019)
Really very good
I judge kdrama on how many episodes I watch continuously ...this one passed the test because I smashed it in 2 sittings only separated because it was one in the morning and I couldn't keep my eyes open!!
Very interesting topic of when one person falls out of love while the other hasn't...the emotions from confusion to sadness to wanting revenge was well portrayed.by lead jang na ra and a shout out to the cold but vulnerable lee Chung ah both done well.
I thought the end was well done and quite emotional a mixed bag for everyone.
One more thing whenever I watch a kdrama I seem to get smitten with one cast member,in Penthouse it was the angelic lee ji ah,in reflection of you it was the beautiful go Hyun-jung, in VIP it was the lovely kwak sun young, she played the working mum on the verge of a breakdown brilliantly and I always felt for her character.
All in all a very enjoyable emotional kdrama highly recommended.
Our Blues (2022)
One of the most beautiful series I've ever seen...
I'm actually still choked up after watching what I think is quite possibly one of the most amazing series I've ever seen...
I've never been emotionally drained and felt tearful as each episode of this series has made me.
First off the cinematography is stunning such vibrant colours and beautiful shots,it made me upset that I wasn't there!!!
Even the musical score is brilliant a chirpy yet serious tune
The characters...I actually cared about every single of one of them, not one weak link among a stellar cast.fantastic acting by everyone.
I've said before that kdrama, certain ones ,can be emotionally draining, this one really took it out of me,I don't think there was one episode that I didn't get teary...
I have to say though one episode broke me into a million pieces and had me sobbing like a baby.
The last 7 mins of episode 15 was that episode ,it really got to me,the tears were streaming I defy anyone to watch those last 7 mins and not cry...nothing on screen has ever got me like that, that's what made this series an absolute masterpiece.
After watching that episode I stopped watching for a couple of days because I had cried myself out and needed a break!!!
I'm getting all teary eyed now just writing about it!
To anyone who hasn't watched this you must ...do not delay...and make sure your tissues are at the ready.
A series I never wanted to end...
Miseuti (2018)
Disappointing
First off let me start off by saying I despised all the characters in this Kdrama and was hoping for them all to get there comeuppance.
The lead lady was a horrible piece of work who destroyed people all her life and got caught having sex with her ex in a car for gods sake and I'm supposed to sympathise with her???? I was rooting for her to get life in prison!
Her husband was quite possibly the most pathetic man in Korea who was just her cuckold!
And the weirdo in the cap??? He was just creepy!
Throw in the idiot boy in the newsroom who was in love with hye ran and extremely annoying and I'm glad this drama is over.
The only ones I really liked were director jang and Eun ju... I was rooting for her all the way.
I don't know if I'm being so critical of this due to the fact I had just finished the magnificent and deeply touching,a reflection of you which blows this nonsense to pieces...
Don't bother with this watch our blues,my mister or a reflection of you instead.
Reflection of You (2021)
Phenomenal
First off let me start by saying I am totally besotted with go Hyun jung the actress who plays Jeong hui ju! Not only is she a brilliant actress but absolutely beautiful at 53 years old.
I smashed 12 straight episodes on this and was devastated at the end!!!
The way they get you to switch sympathies throughout was great, the acting by everyone involved is superb.
The great thing about kdrama is not everything turns out rosy in the end,if this ending had been in a US/UK drama there is no way they would have ended it like that!!!!
But whilst I say that, the ending had me blubbering like a baby I was so gutted!!!
That's the thing with me and Korean drama,I find they can be really emotionally draining as it doesn't turn out how you expect!
Quite surprised it isn't more highly rated as I think this smashed it out the park.
Brilliant.
Maseukeugeol (2023)
Wow...that was brilliant!!!
Now and again something comes along that makes you sit up and take notice 'or sit up and bang 7 hours straight tv because your desperate to see what happens and to hell with work!!!
I really enjoyed this it starts off dark and comedic in places and ends up quite emotional in the end.
Sometimes k drama can get a bit predictable and monotonous but the first 5 episodes of this drama are some of the best I've seen.
The acting is great and having said that, does South Korea just churn out these great child/teenage actors from a machine?
The kids are great actors not just in this series but in everything I've seen...they would put a lot of so called Hollywood superstars to shame!
The two teenage girls are brilliant.
I don't like telling too much about plot lines in my reviews but all I can say is the final scene had me crying like a baby!!!
A great series which I would highly recommend!!
SKY kaeseul (2018)
Wasn't too bad...
Like my title suggests it wasn't too bad!!! Although I now judge all k dramas against the sublime and perfect our blues and my mister' which are 2 pretty hard acts to follow!!
The acting is superb and everyone puts in a good shift.kim sye Heong is great as the sinister tutor and plays her really cold and calculating demeanour brilliantly.
I also have to give a special shout out to the young actress who plays Ye Bin,whilst she isn't in a lot of scenes, every scene she is in she steals!!!
Look at her acting and her facial expressions, and also the rows with her sister she is brilliant!!!!
The reason I marked down is the ending dragged out FAR too long, from the penultimate episode I got bored because they obviously wanted to drag it to 16 episodes and the story was pretty much done by episode 14.
Not too bad a watch but stretched out at the end.
Girl from Nowhere (2018)
Brilliant but flawed
If my headline sounds contradictory,it's because it should... the character nanno is absolutely brilliant and while there are some quite rubbish storylines in a couple of episodes the majority are sterling, great which make you question our own morality.
The great thing about this is the Thai language,it actually sounds poetic at times
I've been there quite a few times and can imagine everyone watching it intently!!!!!!
The cruelty we inflict on each other whilst in pursuit of our own glory
There is one episode, and one line though that I love...
Series 1 episode 7
Listen to nano at 29;15...
Absolutely brilliant.
Live and Let Die (1973)
There are 2 ways to disable a crocodile you know...
I remember as a kid having this on vhs and always watching it,loved every minute of it.
Looking back you couldn't make anything like this again the sheer racism is astounding!!
The only ever black villain doesn't try to take over the worlds finances like previous bad guys,no,this one wants to flood the world with drugs!!!
Jane Seymour is beautiful in this and moore is just superb in not taking it too seriously.
Obviously the soundtrack is a classic as well.
But the best line in whole film as you can see by my title is teehees
'One you can jab a pencil behind the pressure point of its eye'
'And er what's the other"
'Oh the others twice as simple...you just put your hand in its mouth and pull its teeth out hehehe'
Genius!!!
Penteuhauseu (2020)
Loved it...even the insanity that is season 3!!!
What is there to say?
But another binged k drama is added to my list. One thing I'll say about drama is they can be emotionally draining, plenty of times I had a little cry about the injustices and horrific deaths.
Season 1 I think was brilliantly written and had tension all the way through.
Season 2 I begun to think 'hang on a minute it's a bit far fetched..." but still enjoyed.
Season 3 I think the writers just thought to hell with it,let's just do whatever we want to do no matter how ridiculous it is!!!
Certain scenes in Season 3 had me doubled up with laughter, just watch episode 2 when Alex makes his appearance,I haven't laughed so much in years !!!
Having said that the final scenes in the last episode are very emotional...and had me blubbering again.
All in a very good series that I am now sad has ended
And also is Lee Ji Ah (shim su ryeon) the most beautiful woman on earth?
Give it a go even if you have to suspend reality.
The Sweeney (2012)
Plan b movie
It's unfortunate that ray winstone gets involved with people, neigh movies that actually destroy his "scum" past...
Any grown man who calls himself plan b must have a self condescending opinion of himself...
The unfortunate thing Is this could of been a great remake, but put nick love desperation, trying to re create "the business, and the football factory" actually came up with a 14 year olds wet dream...
Plan b never really acted again after this, and there is a reason why...he is bloody awful!!!
Please people watch the original series and don't watch processed baby food that is Ben drew ever again...laughable...
Hullraisers (2022)
Really quite good!
Saw the second series being advertised and thought I'll give the first a go and I'm very glad I did!
The writing and characters are absolutely superb,I was in stitches quite a few times .
I don't think there is a weak character among all these actors and they play off each other superbly.
A special mention has to go out to Leah brotherhead though who plays 'tuuuurneee'
I think she is absolutely brilliant what a great comedy actress !
From the way she delivers her hilarious lines to her facial expressions she is fantastic!
I'm very glad I had a punt on the first series and am looking forward to the second.
Really good show.
Si wang ta (1980)
So bad you will love it!!!
I was feeling a bit down when this film came on one night after having watched it it cheered me up no end!
This film is so laughable that it is impossible to be angry at it.
It is so innocent in that some people actually looked at this after the final edit and thought 'yeah this is pretty good let's put this out'
It's a beautiful b movie with laughable dubbing awful soundtrack and terrible acting but I still loved it!
The bits with Bruce lee actually mirror the whole film,in that it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!!!
The fight scenes are fantastic, beautiful to watch
I have to say I did fall in love with the uncredited Asian singer May...
All I can say is watch this film to cheer yourself up and don't take life too seriously
Loved it!!!!
Naui ajusshi (2018)
Simply amazing....
The other day I needed to go to the shops to get some food for my dinner, "ill just watch an episode of this and then go out..." 8 episodes later and i got a delivery takeaway instead!!!!
This quite honestly one of the most touching brilliant things I've ever seen.
This isnt a TV series or a movie it is something completely different,a genre of its own and beautiful at that.
I don't think there is one episode that didn't bring a tear to my eye.
Ive started becoming a bit obsessed with Kdramas and movies, but this doesn't just beat any of those,it rockets up to my top 5 EVER shows including English shows.
The relationships the human frailty the loneliness the intermittent bits of humour the sadness everything is on show here
The acting is just sublime, some of the best I've ever seen.
Lee sun kyun and lee ji Eun the two main characters are quite honestly amazing as is the rest of the cast, not one weak link.
You actually care about what's going to happen to everyone.
K dramas seem to be all about social hierarchy and loneliness this just nails everything.
This is one of those rare shows were you are devastated that it's going to end.
I honestly can't say anything else because it was just too good...
Please just watch and enjoy
You wont regret it.....
Biseuteo (2019)
Brilliant
I found this film to be an absolute masterpiece.
This is Korean cinema at its finest from the fantastic acting to the tense ridden musical score.
The film is basically ambition blinding people from doing their job and not caring about the consequences of their actions.
Films like this are the reason I love watching world cinema especially Korean, and not that Hollywood garbage that gets churned out like a machine.
The tension created by the ominous score and superb camerawork is genius.
Another review complained about the phone ringing sequence...I thought that was the best scene and had to rewind it twice! Look at the paranoia that ringtone represents and what's going on around him do to him.
This is a modern Korean classic and a must see for everyone!
Gomorrah: Episode #4.2 (2019)
Genny
This episode is so underrated it's untrue...
Genny starts off as a nice guy,but by the end you realise he is more evil than his father...
The build up to realising this point leaves you breathless...
Azzuras acting is second to none.
But watch the sad man who loses everything whilst trying to save his family...
This series is one of the reasons I still subscribe to sky... absolutely genius
And one of the reasons I'm still typing is trying to style out IMDB new 600typing crap for a while
Because you can't write a review for under 600 words can you IMDB...
Oh wait I've just done it whilst writing a review...😂
But no I haven't so shall I just continue typing...or maybe I should continu.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
The end scene no one seems to notice
I've already written a review about this film which I think is quite brilliant anyway...(the film not the review!)
But please everybody look at the luv death scene...she keeps crying out k...k...as if to say I am you...your killing yourself...
He knows what he's doing but sides with humans who treat him like dirt
This is great acting throughout by Sylvia hoeks, who plays luv,how she didn't get nominated for supporting I'll never know
This is still one of the most haunting death scenes I've ever known which made me cry in the end.
An absolutely brilliant film that has been misunderstood...
Just watch the end though...
Deo geullori (2022)
Really quite good
Binge watched on a sleepless night and glad I did!
First off the bullying scenes are quite harrowing some of them bought me to tears
There's an underlying message as in all Korean tv/movies about how class rules society shown as how a young Dong Eun has no one to turn to because of her lowly standing and her perpetrators are giving free rein due to their parents wealth and standing in society.
The tension build up and complexity of the characters makes you care what is going to happen something a lot of series forget to do these days.
The acting is superb especially by Song Hye Kyo who plays Dong Eun,she manages to play her anger frustration and sadness brilliantly.
But the real showstopper for me is the little girl who plays Ye Sol...she steals every scene she is in I could watch her all day!!!!!
Well worth watching and cannot wait for march and part 2.
The Morning Show (2019)
Well...that went downhill quickly...
I watched the first series and whilst it was quite good I wouldn't say it was brilliant, and I proceeded to watch series 2...
Someone likened series 2 to a bad soap opera, this is the perfect example of toe crunchingly embarrassing tv.
The characters are so one dimensional and annoying I wanted them all to perish!!!
It's basically saying all tough people are flawed and really nice people if you get to know what's underneath...
Too many slow mo montages with ridiculous sad music and actors looking wistfully into the distance, trying to purvey angst...
Very lazy writing and I had to force myself to watch the last 4 episodes just to say I had watched it
I have rated the series based on season 2 because it was so awful I forgot half of what happened in season 1
Season 2 in summary is awful...don't bother.
Severance (2022)
Genuinely magnificent
I happened to get a free trial for Apple TV and decided to give it a go having heard nothing about it.
I proceeded to smash the entire series in one hit and am now absolutely gutted I have to wait for the next instalment!
This is a seminal tv programme that comes along once in a blue moon, something different, something that makes you think.
On the surface it seems great ,a work you and a private you,but the more this series went on you realise that both versions have no real control over their lives and are living in hell.
There are so many metaphors and thinking points I couldn't even begin to list them
It is beautifully shot, the acting magnificent, the score absolutely haunting.
There is so much to talk about with this series but no one I know has watched it yet!!!
A truly brilliant series...just wow!
Corporate (2018)
Genius!!!!
I started off watching episode one,and forgot about this series but whilst I was off sick from work I decided to give it another go...I proceeded to smash the rest of it in two days!
This is dark comedy writing at its highest form, there are so many little jokes and innuendos, that I cannot fault any of this series
Episode 8 series one,Society tomorrow is an absolute masterpiece and quite honestly, one of the greatest 30 mins of comedy!
The take on modern society and nuances of human behaviour are absolutely spot on,basically what we say and what we REALLY think.
The cast is brilliant and acting superb
I had never heard of this series and happened upon it by chance, and am so glad I did!
This is comedy of the highest standard and I highly recommend it!
The Comeback (2005)
Fantastic display of tragicomedy acting by Kudrow
I had never heard of this and after seeing the reviews on IMDB decided to give it a go...I'm very glad I did!
When something bad happens to Valerie pay close attention to her eyes, the way Lisa Kudrow acts with her eyes you can actually feel a part of her soul dissolve.
This is brilliant acting by Kudrow, sometimes it's so painful to watch the destruction of the character, but you can't take your eyes off her.
Very glad I found this and highly recommended.
Seinfeld: The Engagement (1995)
I've gotta make some changes...
This episode whilst about George and jerrys pact,is brilliant because of the Elaine,Kramer,Numan dog knapping story...listen to every line these three say,it's hilarious ... one of the best episodes ever!
Camping (2016)
Awful
Big fan of Julia Davis loved nighty night...quite possibly the most underrated sickest filthiest funniest comedy I've ever seen...but this?
Absolutely no...the character Tom was brilliant but the rest of the story was poor...
Julia bounced back however...don't bother with this, just watch sally4ever,a far superior comedy.
