This movie is overwhelming and excessive but in a good way. Although it does become too much at some points, it's only adds, and may even be necessary, for the movie to have the same impact that it does. While the moral of the movie may seem a little cheesy, that doesn't make it any less powerful.
This horror b movie is almost as formulaic as it gets. Combined with an untactful script and "meh" acting, it just wasn't worth the time. For the entire movie the plot slugs on until a character states something so bluntly that you can't help but be taken out of the film. It has a couple subtle additions that were interesting (the use of technology and the underwater setting) but it just isn't enough to make up for the lack of good action, characters you don't care about, and in particular that awful "possession" (?) scene.
At the beginning of the movie pretty much everything from the animation to the story and the voice acting felt uncomfortable and a bit cringey. However, around the halfway point the movie becomes more sure of itself and by the end it got pretty creative and interesting. It actually made me a little emotional. A big issue I have with it, however, is the fact that the girl never really realizes how creepy she's been, and the boy's interest in her isn't that justified.
