Twilight (I) (2008)

Alert: Must read "Twilight" before looking at the Movie!
16 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Where to begin. Well I have read the entire twilight saga recently. I read the book before I saw the movie Twilight. The movie isn't bad, but it isn't good either. The movie strayed so far from the content of the book and left so many questions unanswered. Firstly, the pace of the film is a problem. The scenes with Bella and Edward are so short that the audience doesn't really get the notion that they are madly in love with each other! (Bella is willing to risk her life and become a vampire for Edward. And Edward is willing to expose his coven just to be near Bella) And if someone watching the movie has never read the book they wouldn't understand why the characters were suddenly confessing their feelings to one another so fast. For example, when Edward asks Bella to meet his parents in the movie it seems rushed, but in the book there are plenty of scenes of Edward and Bella falling in love before this. Secondly, the most important scenes in the book are not even in this movie, or are, but not depicted correctly. Examples are the meadow scene and the blood type scene. With the meadow scene in the book, Bella and Edward finally open up to one another, and confess their undying love. Edward simply touching Bella's cheek brings a chill in the reader's spine. The scene is very romantic and important for the overall story of "Twilight." Yet, in the movie the meadow scene lasted less than 3 min. and consisted of Edward and Bella lying near each other staring into one another's eyes. Also the fact that Edward in the book had asked Bella if she wanted to go to the secret meadow (i.e a Date) showed the reader that he did like Bella. However, the movie completely ignores this and has Bella walking into the woods outside of her school for some odd reason. And when Edward follows her he tells her in what is supposed to be a scary voice, that she has to see how he looks like in the sun. (Cue the scary music) This made the whole scene unromantic. And then there are the actors!!! While I thought all of Bella's human friends were well casted, Edward and his family were not. Except for Alice, I thought she was perfect. The rest of the family seemed out of place. Especially Jasper...Was he trying to make people laugh with that face? And then there is Edward himself. It's simply way overdone, and overacted, but Edward isn't the main problem, It's Kristen's Bella. I have seen other movies this actress has played in, and she always brings a depressed vibe to all her characters. She portrays Bella as twitchy, certain, and extremely melancholy. Moreover, Bella in this movie appears to not really care for Edward. This can be assumed by the lack of personality Bella shows around him. She barely even laughs. So all in all this movie could have been much better, and it fell short. But a reader of Twilight will most likely find joy in merely seeing the few scenes that were adapted from the book.

A Cry For Help!!!
9 November 2008
This movie was obviously a cry for help. Being a River Phoenix fan I rented this movie yesterday. Although it is good movie I couldn't help but feel sadness. This is River's last movie before his death, and from the beginning to the end of the film he seems out of it. He also looked extremely ill and his face was rather gaunt. This made it very hard to watch the film.

Overall the rest of the cast were pretty good. Except I thought the lead actress sounded a touch retarded at times when trying to pull off a New York accent. The movie isn't anything new and it's not one of those deep films that leaves you with all these emotions afterward like "Running on Empty." It's more of a fun movie. It's a great watch, but also a sad remembrance of Phoenix.

Brainwashing Cheezfest!
4 November 2008
Okay so I saw High School Musical 3 with my sister and I must say I was disappointed. And I was a fan of the high school musical films. The movie wasn't completely bad, but as a undergrad college student I found many elements in the film unrealistic. I understand that this is a "family" movie so a lot of things can't be taken too seriously. I will list the negative parts of the film.

1.) Although this is a family film, children watching this should not be told that they will have a perfect relationship with someone and that person will be with them for all eternity ex: Troy and Gabriella! Sorry but this child will be shocked at the reality on this subject when they get older.

2.) Not all teens want to go to college!!! But everyone in HSM 3 does. Also the chances that any of them will see each other after college is almost 0%. Most people move on after high School...thats just life. And what a surprise Gabriella and Troy are both going to college near each other!!

3.) I believe Disney was trying to attract an older audience this time around. It's obvious with the subject matter about making it count, college, relationships etc. But does a 6, 7, or 8 year old really care about this...NO!!! I saw many children in the movie theater bored out of their minds including my 8 yr. old brother!

4.) I don't like the fact that the main character in the movie played by Vanessa Hudgens was in a nude photo scandal! I'm sorry but that is not a good role model for children! My little sister, who is six by the way, adores Vanessa and I have been trying to keep this horrible information away from her...But it's very frustrating that Vanessa/Gabriella is her idol. What message is Disney sending?

5.) The movie itself is hard to get through. There is a song every five seconds, barely any story line, and the original characters are replaced by new annoying ones!!! The only Actors that get sufficient film time is Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.

6.) Almost every character gets accepted to an Elite College/Institution!! Speaking as a College student I can assure you that doesn't happen!!!

*Watch this film if you must, But don't expect much!!! In fact, don't expect anything at ALL!!!
