Love the Coopers (2015)
Pretty terrible
So many big stars agreed to do such a terrible movie? Did they read the script beforehand? Was the director cashing in a favour? It's just a really bad movie. The plot is meaningless, ...many characters and their underdeveloped storylines happen to be part of the same family and getting together at Christmas. Woop-dee-doo. Not only that, the plot lines and relationships are all just extremely strange. A shoplifting life coach forms a bond with a closeted police officer during their ride... mmhmm.... Two good looking people, with completely different values and views, flirt and fall in love after an elaborate scheme involving a pretend engagement... wow, how quirky! Two older people struggle with their relationship and we go along for the boring ride... Okie dokie...an even older man has some strange and creepy relationship with a young waitress.... And they all like to sit around singing Christmas carols together. Here's the fun twist... not one of them is likeable! Every single character has nothing to offer and is utterly forgettable. No actor could save this script and bland story.
I Saw the TV Glow (2024)
Style over substance. Amateur writing misses the mark
This movie made me upset in a way that not many movies do. I got the symbolism/message of the main guy being trans (I think that's what we are supposed to gather from this mess). There were a lot of cool shots, some good music, but that's it. The rest was boring drab dialogue, nonsensical artsy stuff just for the sake of being artsy. It felt like a high school students attempt at a super creative and symbolic existential film. If it had been a short film entered in a high school film contest I would praise it. But it's not, it a full length film by people who should be better at what they are attempting. Weird and artsy without solid writing and character development is just awful to sit through. I imagine those who can relate to the main character more may find more enjoyment from the film based on deep seeded feelings of loneliness, suppression and sadness being shown in a creative way, but Jesus it was hard to sit through.
Here for Blood (2022)
If you want blood, you got it!
This movie is called 'Here For Blood' for a reason! If you aren't here for blood, then don't go see this movie because there is plenty of it! If you love blood, gore, makeup effects and a campy 80s horror feel, you will enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised with the great acting and cinematography for such a low budget movie filmed in little London. It has nods to a lot of great horror classics and some laugh out loud moments. I recommend this movie to any true horror fan...Those who don't like it probably aren't actual horror fans and just don't get it. Grab some popcorn and a few friends and just enjoy!
What Comes Around (2022)
Awful but entertaining
A couple interesting twists, but the acting by Summer Phoenix is so so bad that there is no chance for this movie to be taken seriously. Grace Van Dien tries and plays the role well enough. Kyle Gallner shines here. With better dialogue and acting, this could have been a really successful psychological thriller. As it stands though, it's a dark and twisty Hallmark movie. I have to keep writing about this movie, so I will mention that Anna's outfit choices are interesting. Maybe this is how some teens dress these days, but I saw a lot of outfits that read professor/librarian, which felt off. And that's all I have to say about that.
Crazy/Beautiful (2001)
It's good except....
I just don't buy that he would be interested in her. Kirsten Dunst plays a trashy and noticeably greasy girl who gets drunk and throws herself at a super handsome football playing guy. I'm sure he would have plenty of other options, I don't buy it that he would be interested in her. The acting is great, but it's hard to watch because of the grease and lack of any sort of thinking from Kirsten's character. Seriously though, she looks greasy. There's no other way to describe it and I think without the grease I may have given this an 8, because it might've been slightly more plausible that he would be interested in her if her entire head didn't look like a Denny's Kitchen pan.
London (2005)
Am I missing something?
So many great reviews, but this was just a nothing movie for me. Some ok dialogue, and most of the movie is simply just dialogue and the acting is good. I didn't find the characters relatable at all, but maybe that's because I'm not rich living in NY and snorting coke in my spare time. I didn't buy that London would even think twice about Syd after their breakup. She's presented as this amazing bombshell of a woman and he's a lowlife with mental health issues. I don't know why Hollywood continues this narrative of awful men somehow ending up with amazing women. Their previous relationship shown through flashbacks seems somewhat realistic, but the bathroom coke and convos just feel so ... fake. The end of the movie has London leaving her own going away party with a drunk/coked up Syd, who looks like he just rolled out of bed and just started a huge fight at the party. Again... I just don't buy it. She could and would do better in real life. The end falls flat as he finally says I love you and she leaves for LA. Yay? Why she's going there, we don't know. What these people do to be so rich, we don't know. I managed to get through it all because it wasn't boring per say... it just left me feeling unsatisfied.
I Believe in Santa (2022)
We are all thinking it...
The main male lead was terribly miscast. I don't believe he is interested in women for one second. I read in other reviews that the two leads are married in real life. This can't be true! They are so awkward together and have zero chemistry. I feel like this movie could have been a winner with more comedic dialogue, better timing, and better acting. I had to stop it halfway through, I was cringing way too much. Have these actors done anything else? Is this a marriage of convenience? Was he really only acting gay in this movie?? I need more characters in this review but I don't have any more to say.
Saint X (2023)
The poor man's 'White Lotus'
This show is good. If you like murder mysteries that unfold back in time, you will enjoy this. The acting is fine, not great, just fine. Alycia Debnam-Carey is the poor man's Vera Farmiga and West Duchovny the poor man's Jennifer Lawrence. The two female leads are believable enough, though not very likeable. The plot itself in the present (friendship between the two mains) is not realistic, but needed for the show to unfold. The season plays out a lot like White Lotus. We know someone has died (and we know who), but there are suspicions of who actually killed them. The season plays out as a mix between past and present until the final episode when we finally learn the truth.
Significant Other (2022)
Good for a Sunday afternnon
Nothing amazing, but it will entertain you. The main actress looks like a mix of Emmy Rossum and Schuyler Fisk (Sissy Spacek's daughter). The acting is decent and the plot is interesting, though somewhat predictable. It gets a bit cheesy with the big sci-fi reveal midway, but it never made me want to turn off the movie. The ending could've been better. Overall, an easy watch. Nothing too complicated, some nice scenery, and decent acting make for a nice lazy Sunday afternoon movie. Thanks for reading my review. I have 80 characters to go. Fifty-seven and coming down to twenty-six and finally at zero.
Dude (2018)
Not sure about the hate
A decent movie depicting a high school group of girls about to venture off on different paths. One reviewer wondered why it was called Dude if it's about a group of girls. They say "dude" all the time, perhaps the reviewer missed that?? Who cares about the title of the movie. A lot of people upset about the rape scene, but I think it's one of the more accurate portrayals of casual rape I've seen. Stuff like this happens to teen girls all the time. They know that it wasn't right, feel angry, but don't say anything because they "sort of" consented in the beginning. I think a lot of young girls could relate to this scene actually. The acting is good. The girls smoke pot and drink and do what typical teenagers do. Anyone who hates this probably had no life in high school, so has a hard time relating. It's not an award winner and I wouldn't watch it a second time, but it's a fine teen movie for a Sunday afternoon.
The Immaculate Room (2022)
Why the hate?
This movie has such low ratings and I don't know why! It's entertaining and the acting is solid. The premise is absurd, but it is interesting to watch two characters descend to madness. A reviewer complaining that the characters weren't a match and not developed enough was obviously not paying attention. We can infer a lot of things about the characters pasts and it also explicitly says some things that help explain his sister's hate and her likely abusive father. Bonus points for nudity and a near threesome. It won't win any awards, but if you like psychological low thriller types, you should give it a go and see what you think.
The Invitation (2022)
It's good for what it is! Though the ending makes it awful
Ok ok......It's not going to win any awards. It's not super clever and the writing isn't out of this world... but it's a fun film and enjoyable to watch! Just have fun and enjoy it. Bad reviews were probably expecting something different. I wouldn't call it a horror. It's more suspense and mystery. It's not a vampire movie in the sense of vampires killing people all throughout, so don't expect much neck biting. The acting is great and the cinematography is enjoyable to view. I don't know why so many people are hating on this movie. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride, even if it's the fly roller coaster at the local fair and not as thrilling as you hoped.
Edit: the last 15 minutes of the movie are terrible. They may be why so many people are rating it so low.
Marry Me (2022)
Worst premise. Who thinks of this garbage?
This is one of the worst rom-coms I have seen in awhile. I love cheesy rom-coms, but this one was just absurd. The premise is ridiculous, there is nothing particularly funny throughout the movie, nor is there anything sweet and romantic. J-Lo and Owen Wilson have zero chemistry and it's just overall such a stupid and terrible movie. With such big names, you have to wonder how they read the script and agree to make this trash. J-Lo may have just wanted a platform to showcase her singing again in an attempt to stay relevant in the music industry. Big fail and she needs to give up the music and the acting after this one.
Run Sweetheart Run (2020)
Fine for a lazy day or background movie
It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it's somewhat entertaining. The ever so popular 80s style soundtrack and elements of 80s movie style are plopped nicely within. The previous reviews were right in that it feels choppy at parts and can't seem to pick a lane to stay in. One of my least favourite parts was when it displays the word RUN in bold letters on the screen three times, when the character had to... you guessed it.. run. However, the acting and script are decent enough and it works fine for whatever it is. I'm feeling generous with the 6 today, but tomorrow I may change it to a 5. Have some popcorn and a backup plan and you'll be fine!
I'll Follow You Down (2013)
I don't know why it's this bad
I don't know why I found this movie so bad. To start with, The writing and dialogue just gave me that ughhhhh feeling. Gillian Anderson does her best, Sixth Sense kid is just not believable to me and each line just feels forced and written the wrong way. I don't know how else to describe it.
Pieces of Her (2022)
Why is nobody else saying it....
This show could have been good. Toni Collette is amazing, of course. Bella Heathcote as Andrea is... awful. She's got to be one of the worst actors I've seen recently. I'm shocked to read so much praise for her in this role, I thought she brought the entire show down. I had no interested in her character and cringed anytime she spoke.
Saved by the Bell (2020)
Give it a chance. It's not the original.
As a big fan of SBTB growing up, I enjoyed this show for what it was- a new teen comedy that has adapted to the times, while still throwing in nostalgia from the original. I think they did a great job combining the now grown up original cast with the new cast of teens. If you don't understand satire, you may not really "get" it.
Dark Places, Deadly Illusions (2021)
One of the worst
The acting is fair, considering what they had to work with, though Kirsten Davis doesn't quite sell it. The plot, writing, and everything else are as bad as they come. Terrible movie. Just awful.
The Captive (2014)
Bad reviewers may just be bad at watching movies
I don't know why people write reviews that clearly show it is their lack of intelligence that made the movie experience bad for them lol This movie is entertaining. Yes it has flashbacks, but it's not hard to decipher which timeline is which. As for the "confusing" plot points ... they are explained, if you actually listen to dialogue and pay attention. It's not amazing, but enjoyable to watch and an interesting little thriller.
A Christmas Wish (2019)
Enjoyable watch!
I enjoyed this one. Hilarie Burton is a delight and the movie has some fun moments. Not sure why everyone is complaining about the music... I didn't notice anything like that. It's no award winner, but if you like the mindless Christmas movies, this is one of the more enjoyable ones I've seen lately.
