The Turnaround (2024)
I didn't know what to expect, and I cried happy tears
I don't follow baseball or any sport for that matter. But this was a heartwarming reminder that we're all human and we're all more of a family than we think in our daily waking hours. I loved this short and I can't wait to share it with others in order to brighten their day.
You can discontinue reading because the rest of my words are fillers, because apparently there's a minimum number of characters needed in order to leave a review. I personally don't think anything more needs to be said than what I already did. I hope you watch The Turnaround and I hope that it inspires you to be nicer more often. Also, don't vote for the hateful and ignorant orange moron. Minimum required amount met. Peace!
Extinction (2018)
I wanted to but I just couldn't!
The script/dialogue is AWFUL and the acting was really poor. I felt like I was watching an extremely high-budget production of a play written by a high-school drama teacher. I really tried to give it multiple chances, gave up after about 30min.
2067 (2020)
Wow. So good!
As an American, it was nice too be unfamiliar with these actors, and they were all really great! The special effects were great, the storyline was intriguing and kept me at the edge of my seat. I'm happy with the conclusion which was unpredictable in my opinion. Absolutely recommend!
Prospect (2018)
Incredible and Gorgeous
Wow. Just........ Wow.
Thank you for this.
At first I appreciated how unique and original everything was. Then, I started to appreciate how deep it was. Then I began to appreciate how beautiful it was.
I am absolutely floored.
For anyone interested in watching Prospect, please try and give it your full intellectual and emotional attention. I can absolutely see how some people would think it was slow or strange. But I think it's like an amazing piece or sushi. If you are distracted by the company at your table or the noise in your mind, that sushi is just another piece or rice and fish.
But if you were by yourself, giving that sushi your full attention, there are so many clean, bright, and subtly intense flavors.
I highly recommend watching it alone and zero'd in so you can sink in to the complexity that is not obvious.
Beautiful and so very well done. Bravo.
3%: Capítulo 10: Sangue (2018)
Particularly bad writing in this episode
Among other bad writing, the candidates rioting at the drop of a hat is unforgivable IMO. The extent to which they became violent and mindless brats was incredibly unbelievable, uncharacteristic, and made me lose faith in the show to a big degree.
3%: Capítulo 06: Garrafas (2018)
The song and celebration in this episode was definitely a highlight of the series. Beautiful.
This doesn't make this episode a 10/10 IMO. The entire series is great so far, but I am regularly bothered by unbelievable writing, convenient and contrived events. But the rest of the show, great costumes, great sets, and most of the acting is good enough to keep me glued.
The Landing (2017)
My review is the key to enjoying this very well done show!
Imagine an amazing apple pie sitting on the dinner table. If someone described all the artificial ingredients, the food coloring, and the calories it contains, you're not likely enjoy it as much as if you just dove in imagining the main ingredient is "Grandma's love".
If you're lucky enough to not have seen any spoilers about this film, if you know nothing about Apollo 18, you enjoy documentaries, and you think this is just another NASA or Apollo documentary, I highly recommend that you STOP READING REVIEWS and watch it! This film was meant to be one of those that you walk into without expectations and completely unspoiled.
If the story is already spoiled for you, I'm sad for you. You'll probably only enjoy this 0-50% as much as it was intended. Those who rate it low are likely in the group that already had the main story spoiled for them. They're part of the population for whom this is NOT intended.
Beautiful Creatures (2013)
Pleasantly surprised!
I'm a 34-year-old straight male who took the advice of a Vice article and "smoked the skepticism away". I'm so glad I did. Beautiful creatures was surprisingly good! I think the writing, script, story, and... well everything but a couple bad CGI moments, the whole movie was great! I saw reviews saying the acting was bad and I went in expecting bad acting. I was surprised that aside from a couple small parts or single lines that were not great, some of the main characters did GREAR acting! I think this is an underrated movie.
Fast Color (2018)
So good!, if you are patient enough to appreciate the slow build
Kind of like the slow build of an m night shyamalan film, perhaps. Not for the type of watcher that needs to be constantly stimulated in order to pay attention.
I loved this film.
Hunting Lands (2018)
Great cinematography but no payoff
The film builds tension well, there's a lot of great camera work, but the story is weak and unbelievable. Aside from the main actor, all other acting was poor including the overly-animated antagonist. The ending is silly and leaves you feeling like you invested much and received very little.
Lost Treasures of the Maya (2018)
Awesome content among forgivable repetitiveness
Yes, they do repeat and recap the lidar element many times, you see the same footage multiple times, but that is because this program was presumably created for public tv where channel surfers might stumble on this series at any episode and the recap brings anyone in.
The content, footage, and excitement among the archeologists is plenty enjoyable enough to forgive the frequent recaps. Give it a chance but know that you're in for some repetitive recaps.
A Christmas Carol (2019)
NOT too dark or grim. I loved it.
Wow! This was a very good version! I have seen several, I grew up with the Muppets, and I appreciated this one very much!
Some reviews dislike how dark it is, and this almost influenced me to not watch it at all. I'm very glad I took a chance. It was NOT too dark and not too vulgar. I'm medium sensitive to dark and twisted, and this did not push my boundaries.
Some reviews didn't like the cursing. I think that's another silly overreaction.
There is a little cursing, but not tons. A few F words and a few lesser swears.
Someone complained of "Sex" in the show. This is another claim that almost stopped me from watching it. Again... it was NOT an exploitation of shock factor or anything. It wasn't vulgar or indulgent.
Not a spoiler: the following is a generic explanation of the situation without any details. A woman is basically confronted with being blackmailed into sex for money. The confrontation is a little tense but not explicit at all. No nudity, no aggression.
I definitely recommend this show and defend it against negative reviews that found it explicit in any way, as it is not.
