I loved Long Way Round and Long Way Down. Long Way Round very much had the feeling of winging it as none of them had done anything like that before. Long Way Down started as more a challenge to recapture the close connection to the countries and the people as they themselves realised they maybe over organised things to a strict time table and where to focused on get from A to B. You see them relax into it as they go through Africa and again they encounter amazing people on the way.
Long Way Up is more a challenge of getting the tech to work and learn how to get the most out of it. At the time they did this they really where right on the edge of what was possible. The 2 bikes AND the 2 Rivian pick ups are literally prototypes and both Harley and Rivian didn't know exactly how it would play out but they did it anyway. I kind of miss the old BMW GS tourer bikes but I also think they would probably have chewed through what this trip threw at them far to easily.
The other thing to consider is at the time Charley Boormam was still recovering from a massive accident when they did this and you can really feel it has them both a little rattled. The first 2 coming off on soft sand, gravel, mud etc was almost routine and they just picked each other up, laughed it off and kept on trucking. This time it has them far more on edge.
Props to both Harley Davidson and Rivian for putting themselves out there like this and to the production to not sugar coat anything with the challenges of EV. Fully agree with their reasoning to go EV, EV is the way we need to go. They really do hammer home though that just like back in the day to fully adopt internal combustion, there's a lot of infrastructure still needed to handle EV.
