IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack (2024)
Cant get all the negative
I'm extremely surprised to see so much negativity here!
It does not claim to be and is certainly not a documentary - so adding or deducting a few fictional themes for dramatic effect is to be expected. Its just a fictional story based on a historical event - so give it a break you nay-sayers!
Overall, I found it to be an eminently watchable series - very entertaining and great acting with some very believable dialogues. Even some pretty humorous one liners! "I prefer bad tea to bad coffee" (or was it the other way round) - was a killer one.
Some of the photography was great and the locations seemed perfectly authentic.
I have absolutely no negative side to this series and would recommend anyone to give it a shot......
Dark Winds (2022)
Superb storyline and acting....
Its been awhile since I've seen such quality series.
Acting was sublime - superb and realistic - lead actor was eminently believable as a gritty, tough nosed, no nonsense cop. The supporting cast were also perfect in their respective roles.
Storyline was again superb - solid and fast paced enough to keep you on the edge of your seat and laced with the supernatural - just enough to be believable. The cast was perfect to make the whole show work.
So much better than the other more well-known shows making rounds.
Hope this show wont be abandoned and looking forward so much to a third season..
Poacher (2023)
Way better than expected!
I am not a big fan of Indian movies or series - and that includes Malayalam - especially not a fan of the song and dance genres which dominate Indian Cinema.
But this series took me by surprise - story based on hard-hitting facts - excellent acting without a hint of overacting - solid character development - all culminating in a very realistic rendition of the wildlife and poaching world and all the while keeping me on the edge of my seat.
Wouldnt be wrong to say its a great Indian thriller genre series.
Also gave me a newfound respect for those who have dedicated their lives to preserving nature and wildlife.
Shameless (2011)
The title is an absolute scorcher in being so apt
The first time I tried this I switched if off after just 10-15 minutes. I tried it again just based on the glowing reviews.........I was hooked after the 4th or 5th episode and never looked back. To say William Macy was good is an understatement - more like the role was made for him. Once I got into the whole feel and into the characters - it became almost addictive. The whole series was superb and the downturn started with the exit of Fiona - for me that was the turning point and after that, it was all just downhill. They had begun running out of steam and "overmilked'. Having said that - the cast, after the first few episodes, got into character and were just brilliant!
Argentina, 1985 (2022)
Authentic and gripping!
This was as near perfect as anyone could get - its a pity that we dont have such quality political-courtroom dramas in the English language. Inspired by true events - this keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire length with no let up. Acting and plot delivered completely.
I had no idea that such events occurred in Argentina and this was an eye-opener - probably was not given that media attention as was warranted. The primary protagonist - the government prosecutor -performed his part with admirable authenticity.
Besides being hugely entertaining, this story - as cliched at it is - gives us a reminder as to the danger of power going to the heads of leaders.
Dream Horse (2020)
A beautiful, heartfelt couple of hours
I am an action/thriller non-slow movie kind of fan - and tried this on the off-chance it may be good. Of course having Toni Collette and Damien Lewis helped!
After a slow start - it turned out quite the emotional roller-coaster ride. Suffice to say I was pretty blown away by the emotion it kindled. Its a feel-good movie in its quintessential form - kudos to the director and actors - all of whom did a great job....
Succession (2018)
Brilliant
One of the all time great TV series. The characters are entirely believable with realistic traits. Great acting and especially kudos to the Kendall character. Hope it continues for more seasons.
Bosch (2014)
Damn this good!
Totally unexpected............what a gem! Titus Welliver is underated and proves his mettle here as he portrays a gritty ex-special forces detective in Hollywood PD.
Its so surprising that this serial is so low profile - but quality-wise should be up there with the likes of 24, Spooks, Criminal Minds, Dexter etc, etc.
Relatively modest cast who really bring their game.
This show really begs the question of how come its so little known.
Kudos to writers, directors and cast.
Splendid!
The Old Guard (2020)
Better than expected
I did not expect it to be this good - nothing fancy, just a good entertaining movie. Found it better than 'Atomic Blond'.
With a fairly light cast - only Charlize Theron and Chiwetel Ejiofor are fairly heavyweight, still managed to entertain well with an old but nicely done plot involving immortals.
Papillon (2017)
Original was great...................and so is this!
Charlie Hunnam was phenomenal in this role - he was just right without any overacting. The scenes in solitary were sheer excellence - even his physical appearance screamed physical, mental agony and starvation. The loyalty and friendship between the two lead actors was emotionally heart wrenching and the escape attempt scenes were palpitating............
And yes, the 1973 original was superb with superb performances from superb actors...............it is perplexing to see how those great performances could have diminished these performances!
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Oh what could have been.................
What a superb plot! Some better writing and a stronger cast could been been the difference to making this movie great. Could have made more use of Michael C. Hall as well.
Family Business (2019)
great Show
Humour at its best with this quirky yet lovable family. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments - their antics and their quirks are endearing and hilarious - best French comedy series I have seen. Waiting for season 2
Black Earth Rising (2018)
Could have been great.............
John Goodman was great - as he consistently is, plot was good and am sure that a lot of viewers learnt more about the Rwandan tragedy than the average person knows. Could have had a stronger cast...........the female lead was almost irritating to watch - while she could have been thanking her good fortunes, she comes off as arrogant, rude and entitled - she generally looks off the whole series. And there is a lot of puking..............yet, all in all a decent series.
