It came to my attention because of recent headlines. I can see the story is quite original and innovative. But both lead actors' actings seemly were not at their best performance. First, the chemistry wasn't cohesively expected. The interactions weren't cogourly excited. They were very reserved and scripted. I felt Justin Baldini couldn't release himself to play such a complex introvertly and occasionally outburst character. It just loosely pointed the audience about his past. The whole story could have haven his childhood replay to explain the cause of his outburst temper. I didn't read the book. So I don't know maybe the novel is any better. Maybe Baldini tried to avoid to be type cased such roles in the future. However, he wasted a good piece of story.
When I started watching the first time, I was bored by the uninspired storyline and quitted after first few minutes. Then a few weeks later, I picked it up again and surprisingly I finished it. So I decided to review it.
Well, domestic abuse is not a subject to be treated lightheaded. But if this is not the main story line then it should be a sub plot. It could not be all cheers and feeling good even in worst situations. However, there were some not so cliche moments which griped my attentions and was enough for me to finish watching it. Besides, Bill Nighy was there to draw me back in. But I will not go back to watch it again.
