I have a very love-hate relationship with this movie. I think, certain elements of the movie such as being trapped underwater in a cave system is quite terrifying. However, other elements of the movie, such as the alpha male trope, the extreme nature of the underwater cave system, and cringe, worthy dialogue, wear the movie out fast. The movie has a pretty decent set up until you meet the dive team. Immediately you're immersed the classic alpha-male trope of trying to impress an intelligent woman by using caveman tactics. Then the alpha male Exodus continues throughout the entirety of the movie. It's like each guy is constantly trying to prove that he's right by the size of what dangles between his legs. Further, the male goading seems adolescent at best. This really sours the overall tone of the movie for me. I feel like a team that has worked together like they have, should be able to move above this type of behavior. I felt like I was trapped in high school with a bunch of jocks using brute force, and testosterone to try and solve a complex problem. The next issue relates to the Movies progression We go from getting trapped in an underwater cave system which by itself is terrifying. However, this doesn't seem like it's enough for the people who created the film. Almost immediately after being trapped in the caves, the movie severely jumps the shark and does so repeatedly. It goes from the simplicity and scary nature of complicated underwater caves to scaling huge rock faces only to fall through ice, and eventually come out in an area that has lava and fire. I don't know much about underground exploration, but this movie takes it to the extreme and then some. Overall, the movie is entertaining, but also seems to sabotage itself by being over the top, overly dramatic, and fueled by testosterone. It's overall score seems perfect. I think a six would be giving it too much credit.

Insidious: The Red Door
(2023)
Why 5.5 ?
27 October 2023
Ive been a fan of the movies for a very long time. I own the whole series and find the movies to be genuinely disturbing and frightening. Granted, I'm not a hard-core horror fan, but do enjoy a good scare. Therefore, the insidious franchise is still entertaining, but doesn't have all the blood and guts of you're common slasher film. Further, in regards to the whole series, I felt like this movie was not as intense as some of the other ones, and also lacks some of the more disturbing tones from other stories. However, having said that, it still provided some genuinely scary parts, and also had intense moments. Do I think it's the best in the series? No. Most sequels aren't and this is the fifth in the series. However, it does a good job of closing off the series, and overall is a very enjoyable movie. I feel the movie deserves at least six stars, if not more. I also think it is more than capable of standing its ground with the other movies and is a great installment. Hats off to Patrick Wilson's directorial debut.
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
(2007)
It had potential : (
23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie had great potential. It also has some great action, but 3 things kill it. First is the dark. It is so hard to see the action because they filmed it in the dark. I don't know how it got through editing without someone saying something like "I can't edit what I can't see"! Second problem is an inept predator. The Predator known as "Wolf", was supposed to be a superior predator. Meaning he has seen it all and lived to keep fighting. Yet, he gets kicked around like a Youngblood in the first AVP. Granted, there are a lot of aliens against one predator, but he still supposed to be a superior combatant. Yet an alien is able to sneak up on him from literally below his feet. The third killer is the Xenomorph's behavior. Xenomorphs live in the shadows and hide in their environment. When I saw them come out of the sewer in the middle of the street I wanted to cry. Xenomorphs would never do this. The reason they are so deadly is they use the dark and wait to ambush. Maybe they thought they were hiding in the dark given the lighting of the move? Anyway, if your bored, give it a watch (hope you can see it), but don't expect too much. I really recommend watching the first movie. It's not great either, but at least you can see it!
Meg 2: The Trench

MEGa waist of money!
20 October 2023
From someone who really enjoyed the Meg, this was a major letdown. Obviously, the movie and it's predecessor are fictional and therefore suspension of reality is expected. However, it seems like the first movie at least cared about trying to be serious. This one literally jumps the shark hundreds of times. It borderlines on cartoonish with how ridiculous it gets.
I really enjoy watching Jason Statham, and most of his movies. However, I don't know why he signed on for this (other than a paycheck). It was really sad to see someone has so much talent, play such a ridiculous part. Please don't waste your time or money on this lobotomizing piece of garbage. The only thing this movie offers is a MEGa disappointment. You have been warned!!!

6.0 is not enough!
6 February 2023
I'm not a big fan of bloody slasher horror. If you aren't either, then this movie is perfect for you. Personally, as my title says, 6.0 is not enough to express how good this movie is. It resonates on so many levels as far as getting you to think while also being incredibly terrifying. If you were looking for something that makes you think deeply, feel something strongly, and still frighten you to your core, this is a great pic. It is as many have described a slow burn, but also very enlightening. It is also quite refreshing when you get a movie that is horror-based, but does not rely on blood, extreme violence, and other slasher related paraphernalia to bring it home. If you watch this film, open your mind, allow yourself to feel, and this movie will frighten you on multiple levels.
Cutting Class

I've seen worse, but not much!
2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So this move is very interesting on some levels, mildly entertaining on others, but fails overall. The whole move focus is on who's the killer? However, it is like it's trying to be cryptic and obvious at the same time. When you find out that the killer is who everyone thought it was, it's kills everything the move had going for it. The other killer, besides the one in the movie, relates to the pacing and tone. The pacing is slow, it picks up, and then it's slow, it picks up again and dies. It does this over and over until about the last 10 minutes. To add to the problems with pacing, you have a movie that seems to forget it is R rated. It will play out like a PG-13 and then it's like the director remembers it's supposed to be an R rated move. In these moments, they will throw in some random graphic violence, nudity, profanity, etc. They then slip back to the PG-13 flow only to continue to throw in more randomness of R rated materials. If you choose to watch it, turn your brain off and lower you expectation level to very low and you might find some enjoyment.
Very acceptable for strait to market release
1 December 2022
I'm somewhat impartial as I did enjoy the original RIPD despite its bad reviews. However, when I heard the sequel/prequel was made, and that it was a direct market release, I wasn't expecting too much. The movie does lag at times, and certainly doesn't have the cinematic feel of the first movie. However, it's entertaining and if you're not too hard on it somewhat enjoyable. There are some very self-aware parts that tend to grind on you, but other than that, it's what you would expect from the type of movie it is. I would say it's worth looking at if you have some time and if you enjoyed the original, it's not a bad addition.
Home Sweet Home Alone

Ughhhh, make it stop!
26 November 2022
Another terrible move sequel in a long sad history of terrible move sequels. I watched it thinking it can't be that bad, but it is, it is that bad. It's as though you have this numbness in watching it. You think it can't get worse, and it does. You still delude yourself into thinking it will get better an somehow it fails you again. Then the movie ends, and you have this stunned sense of how could they make such a terrible move. That's when it helps if you remember 2 words "Cash Grab". This is the only way you can justify the train wreck that you just witnessed. Please, save yourself the trauma and subsequent therapy required for watching such garbage.
