Over this holiday period I watched a few movies. Not counting my re visits ti SW, LOTR or Avatar :)
But I also watched not one but three Tamil movies in a week. Kodiveeran. Aram and Atuvi. Again revisits to Aboorva Sagodaragal, Karnan and Theri not included.
Ok. let us start with Kodiveeran.
I am one of those few who believe people like Sasi Kumar and Samudrakani can bring new things to Tamil Cinema. I am mentioning both of them here they have done some brilliant work together.
I think Sasi is good as a Director or Creator but not so as an actor. Sasi it hurts to see such a talented person like you squandering away your gift. I can see you are trying different things and they don't work out so you went back to your "bad boy from Madurai" getup. Well I know and probably you know by now, NO it does not work out.
I believed and I still believe that you are some one like Tarantino to Tamil Cinema. That you can mix Masala, Gore, Sentiments and Violence in a movie and yet it can be enjoyable.
Kuttipuli was wrong Kodiveeran is even worse.
I hope your next project is Sasi wise. Good luck Brother!

Terminator Genisys: A Review
Disclaimer: My movie reviews are like my cooking. Most of the time my Family and Friends find that to be nicely done but once in a while even they find it to be too salty or sarcastic. So please read at your own risk! Minor spoilers ahead!
Few films set the bench marking. Back in early 80's there was this film - Ground breaking CGI effects, Superb set pieces and a plot with a few words like it's lead actor. That was Terminator 2. The original is a cult classic but for mass and global market T2 did the job.
30 years later Hollywood is still spinning the tried and tested brand. Same Characters etc. Plot? 3 words - Time Travels. Cyborgs. Kills. Oops.. that's four words. Anyway after watching Terminator franchise as a fifth installment, you will be forgiven for this miscounting :) I want to be fair here. Compared to the two previous (installments - or different tales on the plot, anyone?) the team behind this particular one have done a better job. That includes the big Gubernator :P
The Judgment day is different now so is the pseudo science behind all that time traveling, future technology etc. But the good thing is that it is enjoyable. The set pieces look very CGI but still believable. The Characters ( this is the funny part - they themselves are confused with all those time-lines and alternate realities etc but you will have a smirk on your face watching them) Not many films have done this in the recent past and for that alone the price of admission is worth .
As for the cast which is relatively unknown except Schwarzanegger they have done a commendable job. I was impressed by all three leads, especially Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conor. I originally had doubts about her playing Sarah Conor as good as Linda Hamilton but she has done a good job with what scope she had. So did Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney. A big improvement from their previous franchisee installments.
As for Arnold it seems the man realizes his extent of star power and wants to underplay but the studio is having none of it. He is actually good with self deprecating humor and his iconic one liners. I would rather see him like this but then being a Super star also has its own burdens.
One thing that is a letdown is BGM and Sound effects. Somehow they sounded as an add-on and clunky.
Overall this is a good requel ( wink..wink, Hollywood here is a word), sequel or even if you want to call it a rehash. It is fun has some clever moments but as with all sequels and such people will always compare with the originals so there you have it. Thanks for reading.

Yes. I never thought I would say that.
I read and love the leading brands of comics in general (Dark Horse is my favorite). But when it comes to movie adaptations I think, after watching this movie I can safely say that Marvel has pushed the envelope (cough*cough*Warner)
This is more than a Super hero movie. More like espionage thriller. From the first shot where it starts with a little humor it never lets you down. Humor/Action/Humor/Action with a good dose of character development. Rinse and repeat. Anthony and Joe Russo got it just right.
All actors have done a terrific job. Johansson is great. Be it action or a smart quip with another character she just steals the scene. After watching Chris Evans a couple of times as a comics character I never thought he can portray Caps as good as this. But he shines.
All the supporting characters are given enough screen time though I wanted to see them more. Jackson as the growling chief and Redford with his snappy dialogs are just superb. Even Smulders who just flashes for a few seconds has her moment.
Special mention must be made of Mackie who as Falcon is awesome. I like the friendly banter and camaraderie between him and Caps. My only disappointment is with Sebastian Stan's character. He has done a credible job but a little more of his character development would have been more welcome.
Action sequences are well choreographed. The Set pieces are mostly CGI but they nicely gel with the plot and do not overwhelm which you do not see very often.
Finally Caps gets his own movie (though a second one) - a fun ride which will leave you wanting more. Do not miss it.
