Call It Love (2023)
Acting was good, story line good .....
It was a good start to the season of Call it love, good story line and easy to follow. Didn't drag, actors gave a great performance but... I felt depressed watching it and wondered why. Basically both the main actors are depressed all the time. I'm not sure why others said it was a feel good, happiness is feel good. I thought perhaps it may improve as the story line was great so kept watching in the hope the story line would take a turn. By episode 8 I started to skip bits just to see the ending and a few parts I wanted to. Sorry, just being honest but the whole thing just leaves you feeling depressed, the story had no hope, just something positive to look forward to. You feel depressed for the actors lives not improving, depressed because of all the unhappiness. It left me a little disappointed actually. I rated it 6, lower than others. Would have been nice to just see some happy bright times and I would have watched all of it then.
Isanghan byeonhosa Woo Young-woo: Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022)
Great acting, inciteful to the world of autism
A great series that focuses on the life of an attorney with severe autism. Each episode has it's a challenging case and this attorney's unique abilities that are an asset to she firm she works with. While this series focuses on a more severe form of autism, the story lines for each episode make me smile, cry, and take a more positive view of those with special needs including their strengths. It also shows the prejudice within society for anything not perceived as the norm and how she navigates these challenges with the aid of a co-worker that has taken a special interest in helping her. I have only watched a few episodes thus far, really look forward to the rest of the series.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Had potential but couldn't even watch the end
I thought with a big name this would at least be an enjoyable watch but I was totally wrong. All actors could do was swear rather than any meaningful dialog, like they were trying to hard to act tough which made it completely unrealistic. No suspense, scenes lacked any thought into how events came about. Seems they had the budget but shame what they chose to do with it. How on earth this got to netflix idk.
Scott & Bailey (2011)
Took a nose dive after the first season
The show's reviews lead me to watch this show and the first season was quite interesting with plots and twists that kept you wondering. The storyline is of two detectives who work well together through very different morals and personalities and sort out their differences.
However, I feel the writers let this series down from the second season on into a steady decline. As time goes on it changes from an interesting police show into a soapy filled drama that changes Rachel from a woman who was faithful and a little obsessive to a 2 yr relationship into a nymphomaniac who rushes into a marriage then sleeps her way out of it with colleagues and one night stands with no conscience at all. Bringing her "mother" into the show was just as much of a let down to the show making it come across as trashy. She is a drunken marriage wrecker who proceeds to not only ruin Rachael's life but also those around her. Even more ridiculous is how Rachael allows her friends lives to be impacted so negatively where as a police woman she is seen as extra intelligent on the job.
The men are portrayed as weak, obsessive and inferior with crying and emotional outbursts which as to the unrealistic down turn of the show and I am a woman so it's not a sexiest view. I was hoping by the 3rd season it would improve but steadily declined so I haven't bothered with the 4th season. I would be very surprised if it went on for another. The writers really need to stop watching porn and trying to incorporate it into this show and get into some real police lives to get more reality into the show because it's just turning into a trashy soapy. IMHO
High Moon (2014)
Probably one of the worst B grade movies I've seen....
To be honest I wasn't expecting much but was sorely disappointed anyway.
This movie was set in a futuristic scene on the moon but really didn't have what it took to pull it off. Certainly nothing like the other reviews I read and not something I would recommend even as a time waster.
The script leaves a lot to be desired. It is full of puns/quips to an excess perhaps an attempt at wit that was poorly portrayed. I have to admit, I didn't finish the movie so no spoilers here. The costumes didn't have much thought and to me seemed like orange striped pajamas with moon helmets, quite out of place for a movie. The props weren't much different, garden hoses for plant vines, corny plastic flower etc. The acting fit in with the rest of the movie. Stiff and awkward.
On a positive note, it was nice to see someone can make a movie that is not full of crass language but I didn't decide to turn it off when it came to the same sex love scenes. Perhaps there was a chance it got better later but I think I gave it more time than it was worth. All I can say is there is better things to waste your time on! I think a 2 out of 10 is more than generous
Supah Ninjas (2011)
Okay for kids, mine loved it
Typical American kids show that depicts 3 teen wanna-be ninja's being trained by a hologram and robot in the ways of the ninja. The kids go looking for crime and often help the father who is a cop to solve cases. The show is well filmed, clear with good sound. The 3 actors have completely different personalities and also help one another to grow and learn in normal teenager life experiences such as school and relationships.
This show is a kids comedy and depict all the fun and silliness appealing to kids humor and fantasy. Though not something an adult would likely find entertaining, my kids (7 and 11yrs) love it. I gave this a high rating because even though I didn't find it appealing as an adult, it's a great kids show that will appeal to ages 5-14
Suspects (2014)
Had higher expectations
The show is a British drama about some local detectives solving various crimes, 1 crime per episode. The focus of the show is on interviewing suspects and solving the crime. It has been portrayed in a documentary style type drama. The first episode was disappointing. The camera was shaky and suspect interviews at the police station was difficult to see due to strong reflective lighting. The plot is predictable and it lacks suspense. All this with substandard acting and story line, let the show down. The second episode was no improvement on the first, same poor lighting and loaded up with profanity as the story line progressed. This is not a show I can foresee being around long in it's current state.
The Outsider (2014)
Pleasantly surprised
I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised for this low budget film. Suspenseful, action packed and good story line, this movie kept me waiting for what was next. The first five minutes got you straight into the film with the murder of a girl thought to be the daughter of Lex Walker. As the plot unfolded, it was easy to see who was behind the murder but the suspense came when you didn't know where his investigation would lead him next. Good mix with the British and American cast. The action was great, clean and not blood thirsty which tied in well with Lex Walkers character as a military man. Only criticism is I would have liked it better without all the 'F' bombs, the movie would have been better without it.
