Red One (2024)
Fun action Christmas movie with a lot of heart
4 out of 5 stars.
Red One is a good christmas action comedy film with a lot of heart and some action. Its a fantasy story of Santas bodyguard Cal (Dwayne Johnson) who goes on a globe trotting adventure to look for santa after he gets captured by a witch that is trying to corrupt Christmas.
Fun plot. The characters are fun. Also a heartwarming story of a dead beat father played by Chris Evans who helps Cal out and is estranged with his own son.
The action sequences are fun. It has a heart warming theme. The visual effects may be cheesy. The cast ensemble is great.
It is a lot of fun with humor, heart, and action.
The Idea of You (2024)
Finally a rom com drama that hits the high notes.
4 out of 5 stars.
The Idea of You is a good romantic comedy drama film with a lovable cast, a story conflict that keeps you entertained and a moving direction.
Plot is good about a boy band singer who is 24 years old and falls in love with a 40 year old lady who runs a art company. She took the daughter to coachella and thats where she met the famous singer. One thing leads to another. Evantually, there are consequences with the singer popularity and fans noticing who he has been seeing. And how that is affecting her and her daughter.
Great performances. Also a moving direction that keeps your eyes glued to there performances and where it leads them.
Venom: The Last Dance (2024)
Popcorn fun and a great conclusion.
5 out of 5 stars.
Venom The Last Dance is an awesome superhero film filled with action, humor, and a story that concludes Eddie/Venom story.
If you loved the first two. This film is no different. The humor is campy. Has lots of action sequences. And more symbiote characters. The film is fun. Tom Hardy did great with the role. Hope to see more of him if they ever continue after its conclusion with Venom.
The cast ensemble did great. The introduction of Knull is awesome. He is briefly in it. The visual effects are good. It is a film with lots of mindless action. And humor. They need to bring these characters into Spider Mans universe.
The Absence of Eden (2023)
Horrible
1 out of 5 stars.
The Absense of Eden is a horrible thriller film about a immigrant trying to find a better life. Only to work for a shady guy. And another story of a ICE agent dating a girl who is working for the cartel.
Plot with intertwining stories. The script never resolves anything in the end. Characters are left unresolved. The story ends abruptly. The direction is dull and boring. The acting is forgettable. The characters are bland. Not much happens in the film.
It is a film that misses the opportunity for it to be emotional with what the characters are going through. Overall it is a film that is worth skipping.
Smile 2 (2024)
Naomi Scott delivers a shocking performance in a sequel thats decent
3.5 out of 5 stars.
Smile 2 is a pretty fair psychological horror film about a evil entity that makes you delusional in seeing a smiling person until you lose your mind.
This sequel plot was good. Following a famous singer which she had a traumatic past. Until she gets cursed by the evil entity.
Naomi Scott did great with her scream queen that is losing her mind. The film has some creepy sequences. It also has some shocking scenes that will throw you off with whats real and not real.
The climax has a twist which was surprising. I did find it to be weaker with less scares than the first film.
Terrifier 3 (2024)
Over the top gore and better of the three films
3 out of 5.
Terrifier three is a fair horror movie that takes gore to a whole new level. You have Saw films that takes torture porn over board. Terrifier is becoming the next slasher film that is making Art the Clown the next Michael Myers or Jason.
The plot is okay. It does get a little supernatural in the third act. Which i felt like the film rushes in the climax. Basically setting up for a fourth film.
The kill gore scenes are over the top. And bloody. Do not be surprised or shock. The film lacks intense scare or jump scenes. Hopefully the director can amp up the scares for the next film.
Boy Kills World (2023)
Cheesy gory fun.
2.5 out of 5 stars.
Boy kills world is a pretty bad action thriller comedy film. It basically follows a young boy who goes through training to get revenge on the people that killed his family and the boy is muted and he narrates the whole movie based off a video game character. The plot was OK. It does have a twist that is surprising. The cast is OK and forgettable. The action sequences are pretty cool and gory and very violent. But the humor in the movie is cheesy and terrible. The script and narration of the movie is horrible. I feel like dialogue was just cringe. But if you can get past all the cheesiness and enjoy the action and bloody gore for what it is. It was entertaining.
Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
Disappointed with a huge letdown for a unnecessary sequel.
1 out of 5 stars.
Joker 2 is a horrible musical psychological thriller film which this film was very much uncalled for. First movie depicted a raw realistic joker. This sequel took it sideways and in a horrible way.
Lets get started about the plot. Plot was thin and did not add anything besides what we saw in the first movie. Its the aftermath, Arthur imprisoned. Awaiting trial. And court sequences. A climatic escape. But to come back in full circle.
The direction was dumb. Director tried to make this a musical. Big mistake. A lot of the musical sequences is all in Arthurs head. Makes it more crazy. The musical sequences is eye rolling stupid. It literally takes up majority of the films running time. It was best to cut those sequences and keep the main plot focused.
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are great but there performances are wasted in a script that does not build to any development. Right when it gets somewhere. It pops into a musical. Than back into something serious and another musical. Direction did not take itself seriously and the movie itself was a joke to itself. It is so boring with nothing happening in the film.
Overall, it is one of the worst films of the year and definitely not worth seeing in the big screen.
Never Let Go (2024)
Never Let Go sometimes makes you want to let go this slow burn thriller.
3 out of 5 stars.
Never Let Go is a fair survival horror film that lacks the scares and a slow moving direction. Which is disappointing from a director that handled an intense The Hills Have Eyes remake and Crawl. The films plot is eh. Does trick the audience that misleads them in multiple direction. It is slow moving. I find the Watchers movie this year to be way entertaining than this film.
The cast ensemble is okay. The film does lack scares which misses every opportunity for a jump scare.
The ending was a bit weak with how the story ended. Could have been so much more. Overall, it was an okay film.
The Killer's Game (2024)
Cheesy, dumb, and empty entertainment.
2 out of 5 stars.
The Killers Game is a eh action comedy film about a hitman who was diagnosed with a disease and decides to put a contract hit on himself. Until the doctor accidentally misdiagnosed him and he is completely fine. Now, he has to fight for his life as there is a contract on him.
It is no John Wick film. The script is filled with cheesy dialogue. The humor is lacking. The action sequences are mindless and completely forgettable.
Dave Bautista and the rest of the cast felt bland with the script given. The direction was cheesy with its 70s disco score that did not add any entertainment value.
Overall, it is a cheap action flick that felt a waste.
Speak No Evil (2024)
James McAvoy delivers a menacing performance in a thrill ride.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
Speak No Evil is a pretty good psychological horror film that builds up the anxiety tension with characters fighting for there life.
The plot is a great set up. A dysfunctional couple visiting Italy. Meet another estranged couple. They seem friendly. They visit them in there country farm area. They notice something strange with them.
Great cast ensemble lead by menacing James McAvoy with a creepy unsettling performance. Mackenzie Davis did great. Along with everyone else.
The direction does a great job building up the tension. A dysfunctional couple with problems being placed in a stressful life and death situation. When things kick it up in the last half with characters fighting for there lives.
It does lack the scares which could benefit from. But overall it is a pretty good film.
Land of Bad (2024)
Bit of mixed bag of action and iffy dialogue.
3 out of 5 stars.
Land of Bad is a okay action thriller film that has some exciting action sequences and a so so dialogue with the script and story.
The films plot is okay. The script could have been better from its cheesy dialogue with the characters. It does make the films dramatic scenes feel awkward.
About a soldier being on his first out in the field and things go sideways. And he has to fight for survival. The action sequences are awesome and exciting. The cast ensemble is great. The direction feels a bit uneven from a military action film. Seeing Russell Crowe trying to connect with Liam Hemsworth to help him escape.
Overall, if you could put aside its weak story and script. The action does provide lots of thrills.
Mother of the Bride (2024)
Rom com with bad cliches and acting.
1 out of 5 stars.
Mother of the Bride is a horrible romantic comedy film that is an example of cliches and bad acting.
Plot is horrible. And a convienent for every character at being at the right moment and time. A girl is getting married. Well she invites her mother who is distant from daughter. Mother comes to the party to find out. Her daughters fiance father was a previous college fling of hers. Making things more complicated.
The acting is also atrocious with the cast ensemble. The script is terrible with horrible dialogue. The cliches is so bad which makes everything in the film predictable and terrible.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
A fun sequel that delivers from the original.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a pretty fair dark comedy horror film that took the big risk of a making a sequel decades later. However, Tim Burton delivers from the original. It is fun, entertaining, and a good continuation from the original.
The plot delivers and it follows literally decades later with Lydia having her own ghost show. Her daughter is distant after the father mysteriously passed away. They are brought back to the house from the original when there grandfather passed away. They are soon brought into the in between world of life and death.
There is more to the plot with Beetlejuice is on the run from a cult soul sucking ex. Lydia and her shady boyfriend is setting a rushed marriage. And Lydias daughter meeting a new boy in a nearby town is brought into the mix.
The direction is good. Tim Burtons style is all over the place from music score. The practical effects is cheesy with the cgi. And style. Sometimes a flashback animation. It also can be a bit much.
Good cast ensemble. Original cast is back. And new faces like Jenna Ortega. Which she did great.
Overall, it is an okay film that is a worthy sequel. And delivers from the original.
The Crow (2024)
Unimpressive remake but decent action.
3 out of 5 stars.
The Crow is a fair gothic superhero film if your looking for a film with a dark antihero going on vengeance.
The original was great. I would not compare these two. This film lacks everything from the original. The soundtrack. The direction. And everything else.
This film has some decent action sequences. The cast was also okay with Bill Skarsgaard and Fka Twigs playing as the characters. The direction tried to get that dark tone and have that ambient music score and soundtrack. It may disappoint the fans of the original though.
The script did lack development of the two characters falling in love. It just jumped right into it in less than a minute. She is running from her past and he is two. Both meet up at a rehab for there addiction. Than her past catches up to her so they both escape together and fall in love. The script sucked and lacks development with the story.
Overall, it is a decent film with action and tone but forgettable and disappointing to the original.
Blink Twice (2024)
Zoe Kravitz director debut is effective and slick.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
Blink Twice is a pretty fair psychological thriller film that is thrilling with some commentary about high class having an isolated party and in control for there own gain.
Plot is good. Couple of girls get invited to a high class private party in an island. Lead by a ceo Slater (Channing Tatum). After a couple of days noticing they cant remember the night before. And something is off with the guys on the island.
There is a twist. Its a dark twisted thriller that may not be for everyone. Be warned.
The cast ensemble is great. The thrills are good once the characters figure out whats going on. It is a slow build up to that.
The ending i thought it was a little weak and could have been better.
Overall, it was an okay thriller.
Bleeding Love (2023)
Story about father and daughter road trip in a recovery road of addiction.
3 out of 5 stars.
Bleeding Love is a fair drama film about Ewan McGregor and his real life daughter. In a film about them going on a road trip while the father is trying to bond with his daughter. After she has been struggling with a drug addiction.
Story was okay. Acting was great. The script and direction did feel a little dry and dull. Its an emotional story but there is not enough substance for this film to be effective. It was predictable. The script was lacking further character development. And once the film finished there was not much to care for with the characters. Overall, it was an okay film.
A Family Affair (2024)
Fun rom com but bland with cliches.
3 out of 5 stars.
A Family Affair is a fair romantic comedy film about Zach Efron being a movie star and famous. His assistant played by Joey King is always there to help him. Until her mom played by Nicole Kidman ends up sleeping with him and falling for him. Which her daughter knows the kind of guy he is and either she is over protective of her mother or selfish for her own career.
Plot is okay. It has its cliches. The film is fun. The cast ensemble is great. Zac Efron. Joey King. And Nicole Kidman steal the show with there performances.
It is predictable. Cliches. Also has some fun moments. It is a decent flick.
Alien: Romulus (2024)
Fede Alvarez awesome take with the alien franchise.
5 out of 5 stars.
Alien Romulus is an awesome science fiction horror film that is a stand alone sequel in the franchise. While feeling like a reboot with catching the best parts of the original films. The film has that horror build up with characters going into a space station. Only to discover the face hugger aliens and being terrorized by the alien creature.
Plot is great, characters savaging the space station to get cryopods. Only to get stuck there and fighting for there lives.
Great cast ensemble with the main character being the heroine of the film.
The direction is great. Fede Alvarez becoming a promising director which i think he ll be great at handling the resident evil game series.
The film starts slow with a build up of characters and story. Once the terror kicks in. It does not stop until credits roll. It picks up and does not let you go. And the direction does not disappoint. The climax also crosses some boundaries that is creepy and terrifying.
The music score is great with a hint of original score.
Overall, it is an awesome film in the series and one of the best.
Borderlands (2024)
Mindless action but no depth
3 out of 5 stars.
Borderlands is a fair science fiction action comedy film based on the video game series. I never played the games. I went seeing this in a fresh perspective.
The film is entertaining with its mindless action sequences. About a ragtag group trying to save a teen Tiny Tina. From other bounty hunters that were sent after her by her evil father.
The humor is flat which makes laughs very few. The visual effects are okay but also iffy in some parts. The cast ensemble is okay. Cate Blanchett kills it as a heroine. Kevin Hart taking on a action role too. The plot is generic. The humor is eh. It does have a lot of action sequences to make this film entertaining.
Trap (2024)
M. Night concert thriller thats bland and straight forward.
3 out of 5 stars.
Trap is a psychological thriller film that follows Cooper (Josh Hartnett) taking his daughter to a concert. Only to see it being secured by swat and fbi. Searching for a serial killer. While Cooper is trying to find a way out.
Plot was okay. It did not have any surprises which the films concept should have had. Either the twist was revealed with the trailer or not. The film did not have any surprise ending or third act. It was too straightforward. Josh Hartnett delivered his performance along with the rest of the cast ensemble. The singer made her debut and it was a good introduction with the songs in the concert.
The thrills was okay. The film had a settle twist which did not add any surprises. It did Josh Hartnett a performance of a socialpath performance. Overall, it was an okay film.
Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
Fun cast and stupid humor that entertains.
3 out of 5 stars.
Drive Away Dolls is a fair crime comedy film that is about two best friends who gets mixed up in a crime with people after them after taking there briefcase.
Plot is dumb and fun. The humor is also stupid but it does entertain. May not be memorable but it was entertaining. Two friends that are lesbians who end up bonding during this road trip as they are being chased by a group of people.
It has a great cast ensemble with few cameos. Margaret and Geraldine are great with there chemistry. Lovable performances with dumb fun direction that is all it is. Overall, it is an okay film.
Miller's Girl (2024)
Painfully slow and dull
1.5 out of 5 stars.
Miller's Girl is a horrible erotic thriller about a student who becomes obsessed with her writing teacher. When he rejects her story cause it relates to an affair with writer and teacher. She decides to ruin the teachers life.
Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman were okay but there performances are wasted in a bland script. The direction is slow moving. The story is thin. A teenage girl living alone in a mansion cause her parents are away for a long time. How convenient for a perfect set up with a teenager that is manipulative.
The film is dull and boring. All talent was wasted.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
Bringing back the 80s action comedy is well missed.
4 out of 5 stars.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is a good action comedy that brings Eddie Murphys franchise back and it is well missed.
The typical action comedy that made the 80s franchise worked is back. The humor. The action. And the music score. It is nostalgic.
Plot is good. But it does have a predictable villain cliche. The action sequences are entertaining. Eddie Murphy does a great job in being fun and entertaining. Plus the new cast members were a fun addition. The direction could have been a little more fun with the film. Overall, Eddie Murphy is back and does not disappoint with his 80s franchise. Which would be fun to see another.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Bloody fun and plenty of character surprises.
5 out of 5 stars.
Deadpool and Wolverine is an awesome superhero film which brings these two characters into the mcu. Deadpool is still a potty mouth and film is still bloody and gory. Character does not lose his sense his humor with the disney merger. Shawn Levy did a great job in bringing these characters. And delivering justice.
Plot is great. About the tva recruiting Deadpool to help save a timeline with another agenda in play. The script has plenty of references and humor to keep the jokes rising. The action sequences is bloody fun. The cast ensemble is great and plus the surprise cameos. The soundtrack is fun. It is nice to see Hugh Jackman back into the role and hope he continues further with the character.
Can not say much more without spoiling. It is best to see for yourself. It is one awesome film in the mcu and cant wait to see the next film.
