The Widow (2019)
Two episodes, first and last.
After watching the first episode, I knew I would not enjoy watching all eight. The mystery and intrigue did make me wonder how it ends. When I skipped to episode eight, I was completely satisfied. I knew that Georgia would probably get her friend and guide Emmanuel killed and making his new wife Ivette the actual widow of the show. He was too good at his job taking her to dangerous places, finding out stuff while keeping her safe. The final eighth episode filled in all the information, Georgia's husband had survived and remarried while remaining in hiding, her husband's partner was in league with the evil General, was responsible for the bomb that killed Emmanuel's first wife Gaelle and everyone else except her husband. After seeing Georgia leave Adidja at the school orphanage, I knew that Georgia would end up adopting her in the end. The acting was good all around and for so much suffering to be resolved with a happy ending, even for only a very few was nice. The evil crimes of the warlord was revealed and justice was done, again for a relative few. We know that in most of these African Countries, when one warlord dies there is another one to take his place and justice remains an unknown concept. But for fictional enjoyment, especially when I skipped six episodes and had everything explained by watching episodes one and eight, this was a satisfying series.
Earth: Final Conflict: Final Conflict (2002)
Earth Final Conflict to the stars to find more.
Jayne Alzheimer's, Renee Palmer is the heroine of the new millennium, who proves to her male counterparts that she is there to lead and they are to follow. Way back in season 2 episode 9 had already revealed mankind's ultimate future when Dr. Belman's daughter, Dr. Joyce Belman, advances her evolution with a Jeridian-Taelon cocktail that she helped create, to a point so far past the Taelons, that she nearly destroys Earth and the Taelons until she joins with Liam Kincaid to share in his wisdom, and decides to travel the universe instead. That episode was the apex to the whole series, still, season 5 episode 22, Final Conflict was not bad even though Renee Palmer requires the help of Liam Kincaid coming back from limbo, and the guidance of Ra'jel to defeat the Atavasts, and the undying evil that is Ronald Sandoval. I cannot help but think that this episode would have been better with the return of Dr. Joyce Belman's nearly god-like avatar to join with Liam Kincaid and produce the next evolution of mankind, sorry Renee Palmer.
Land of the Lost (1991)
Very low quality.
I watched the Land of the Lost TV show in the 70's but never watched this version. I have to say that twenty years later the special effects and costumes actually got worse, not better. A very low budget could explain this, and I won't even call the acting terrible because sometimes poor acting is really just poor directing. I have seen movies and TV shows with actors who had great reputations for their performances but the direction was so bad, they looked like they never acted before in their lives. It is impossible for me to tell the difference between people who cannot take direction, and directors who cannot direct good actors. All I can really say about this show is this Land of the Lost is nowhere near as good as the old Land of the Lost, and the old Land of the Lost was a cheap production that was barely entertaining but at least it was entertaining which this show in my opinion is not.
Frasier (2023)
Why was this show renewed?
First to be let go should be the nephew. He is obviously there for clumsy, slapstick, fall down humor but it is hard to tell sometimes if it is poor acting, poor direction or both. When listening to the laugh track, it seems so out of place, that you wish they would just put him in a closet and lock the door to make the show more entertaining. Second to go would be Frasier's college buddy or perhaps the writers whose lines he is reading. I suppose their witty, back and forth banter would be funny if it was actually witty, but it starts with comments about the nephew, who nobody cares about, and continues in the same way about other characters nobody cares about. I have reached the minimum character limit, so I won't waste my time or yours going into detail about how bad the rest of the cast is. This show could be saved with new writers, much better direction, and eliminating half the cast and hiring some real actors, but why bother, and why was this just not cancelled? Does this review contain spoilers? I hardly think so, it is impossible to spoil something that already is growing mold.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Not unwatchable but disappointing.
I could go along with the King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table angle. The actors were not terrible some of the time and were terrible other times but bad acting is usually the fault of bad direction, though in the case of Mark Wahlberg, it was obvious he rather be somewhere else. The special effects were not very bad but the stunt choreography was unbelievable, and not in a good way. I just could not believe that five story falls and landing on hard surfaces, no matter how much tuck and rolling they do would be survivable without severe injuries. In previous Transformer movies they went a little far with Optimus Prime being saved by Labouf or what ever his name was, but Mark Wahlberg rocking and rolling in the middle of Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime was just plain ridiculous. This movie was watchable for me but I am not that critical of a viewer and even I could tell that it was one of the worst Transformer movies.
The Night Agent (2023)
All American Girl Nextdoor
This series has all the political intrigue of heavy handed bullying and betrayal by those in power that is only surpassed by Joe Biden's China Puppet Regime administration. In a world where truth is stranger than fiction, it is nice to have some fiction where the heroes bring the political criminals to justice. The one advantage the heroes have in this tale is the leader of the Free World and President of the United States is not a traitor to her Country and is actually a good guy that the heroes need to expose the corrupt criminal officials in her administration to. Can you imagine the heroes trying to expose the DOJ, FBI, CIA, the Secretary of Homeland Security and the United States Attorney General to Joe Biden? The show would be over and the heroes arrested for insurrection. In this story, the corruption stops before the top and the President is not a rotten traitor, so the heroes are able to defeat the powerful political adversaries who are trying to steal power. The actors are all very good and believable which can only happen with expert direction. I was somewhat surprised that the female lead is from New Zealand because she really embodies the All-american girl next door who the male lead falls in love with, complete with an American accent and computer skills necessary to win the day. I say somewhat surprised because the acting talent coming out of New Zealand is very good.
Master Dearest, from the Diaries of Jeannie (2020)
We all love Barbara Eden.
First of all, I never heard of this show or I would have seen it. Obviously those in charge were to cheap to advertise because Barbara Eden has millions of fans who would have been glad to see her latest Enterprise. For many of my generation who grew up in the 60's, Barbara Eden was our first fantasy love who we never met. To this day, all other women are compared to her in their beauty and talent with few even coming close. I was watching an episode of the Virginian where her character was named Samantha and was reminded of the common comparison in attractiveness between the magical personas Jeannie on I dream of Jeannie and the beautiful witch Samantha Stevens on Bewitched. For most of us fans the winner was always Barbara Eden's Jeannie. If I can find this show, I will watch it and hope we are lucky enough to have Barbara Eden around for years to come, healthy and happy to be idolized by her fans.
Superboy: Brimstone (1990)
Introductions
After giving creepy Andy and the other victims a mystical medicinal cure, Lana asks him who he is and Brimstone gives her his card that at first reads only Brimstone but then a second later a phone number appears, 555-6777. When the evil Prodo takes over Superboy, it is up to Brimstone to cure Superboy and use his magic powders to defeat Prodo and save the day. When Brimstone is disabled in combat with Prodo, then Superboy must be the one to save the day. Brimstone hands his magic powders to Superboy and flys over to where Prodo is holding Lana hostage. Superboy crushes all the powders and uses his super breath to blow them at Prodo. Lana must be immune to the magic powders as she remains standing while Prodo collapses and is consumed.
I Dream of Jeannie: Jeannie and the Marriage Caper (1965)
Mako
Kato is played by the great actor Mako. Kato is a Japanese name first seen in Hollywood in the Green Hornet 1940's serials. Keyes Luke was one of the stars who played him back then and of course Bruce Lee played Kato in the 1966 TV series a year after this episode. At this time in his life Mako had a full head of hair as Major Nelson demonstrates by grabbing it. Kato speaks with Barbara Eden's voice as this is supposed to be her magical disguise. Gas stoves were actually common in Florida as we had one in Sarasota at the time of this episode and yes it was propane. Barbara Eden was the first pre adolescent love of many of my generation.
Night Man: The Ultraweb (1998)
Jayne Heitmeyer has arrived to save the day.
Jayne Heitmeyer plays Briony Branca. I never did like caste changes. Derek Webster as Raleigh Jordan performed his super geek role well but the slightest hint of wanting a raise would get you fired on these early Canadian-American joint ventures. Earth Final Conflict went through the same distracting toss up but like that show it had the benefit of a young and talented new actress come on the show to save it. If only they had killed off Matt McColm's character and had Jayne Heitmeyer take over the leather clad super hero role, she probably could have saved this one but then she wouldn't have been free to move to Earth Final Conflict and turn that show into one of the best Scifi shows around. Things always turn out for the best it seems.
Night Man: Amazing Grace (1998)
Waiting for Jayne Heitmeyer.
This episode like the whole first season was a waste of time. The true star of the show starts in season two. Yes I am a Jayne Heitmeyer fan. She always makes the shows she starred in so much better, though this one even she couldn't save. Earth Final Conflict gave her more room to stretch her acting muscles. I am not saying it was perfect because the writing and direction would be good one episode and then terrible the next but if you like beautiful women kicking butt and saving the day then Jayne Heitmeyer was doing it way before Scarlett Johansson was doing it as Black Widow in the Avengers.
The War of the Worlds (2019)
Aliens from Mars?
How do you take an exciting story about a Martian invasion and turn it into a boring waste of time. You make the invasion a sidebar to an adulterous affair and a too deep look into individual character development. I read another review comparing this serial as boring as Doctor Who but despite different actors in Doctor Who being more charismatic and writing in some episodes being superior to others, that comparison is an insult to Doctor Who, as even the lesser Doctor Who episodes were much better than this snorefest but that might be the Doctor Who fan in me. There was a time where most British movies and TV shows were too boring watch but now this sad example of what can go wrong on British television is a rarity and not the norm. This was probably caused mostly by a poor script, as the acting seemed well performed but if the story is over dramatized when we have been spoiled by superior special effects and action driven story lines, we tend to lose interest very quickly. I doubt even Tom Baker could make us care about two cheating spouses who have left the ones they married to find true love with each other as they try to survive the side plot of an alien invasion.
V: Mother's Day (2011)
Great show.
The acting was wonderful and many of my favorite Stars were in this movie. Some people may not like the bad guy, or in this case, the bad gal win in the end but if this show had not been canceled, the second season would have set up one heck of a revenge fiiled third season. Jane Badler who played Diana, the Queen Visitor reptile from the original series is great as the ex-Queen that was deposed by her daughter, the new Queen Anna, played by the beautiful and talented Morena Baccarin. Anna has many of the main characters slayed by the end of the last episode, including her mother Diana who she kills with her tail. The talented and attractive Elizabeth Mitchell plays Erica Evans who loses her Husband and son to Anna's machinations but survives to meet the Star of the original V series Marc Singer who plays another leader fighting against the Visitors named Lars Tremont. The talented and stunningly beautiful Laura Vandervoort plays Lisa, the daughter of Queen Anna who seems to be too nice for her own good and let's everyone down in the end when she decides to give her mother another chance. Anna takes that chance by imprisoning Lisa, making an exact replica of Lisa who anna refers to as daughter, and Anna sends her new daughter to breed with Erica Evans's son Tyler. Evidently the Visitor Queens need to feed on their mates to furnish sustenance for their eggs as Anna's new daughter kills Tyler after the mating is over. Much like the original V, this new version has a super hybrid who is actually the daughter of a human Valerie Stevens, played by the beautiful and talented Lourdes Benedicto who is also a victim of Anna. The hybrid's father Ryan Nichols is a Visitor played by the very talented Morris Chestnut and whose character is actually murdered by his daughter. The super hybrid comes in when Anna is failing at blissing the human race by taking over and blissing them for Anna. If the third season had been made I would have like to see Lars Tremont make a revenge maddened Erica Evans an Iron man like suit to destroy Anna, Lisa's lookalike and the Super hybrid while making peace with the rest of the Visitors but that will never be.
The Drew Carey Show: Chemistry Schmemistry (2002)
Not believable.
I could never believe the King of Queens Dougie could get an attractive wife but the idea that Lori Loughlin's character would ask Drew to marry her was beyond belief. If this was played as a practical joke on Drew or Lori Loughlin's character as a psycho serial killer, I could go along with the plot but as a real proposal that Drew turns down, no way. As a case of Drew being self aware enough to know she was out of his league, this makes Drew Carey seem like a genius but Drew settling down with Mimi would make a much more compatible pairing. A beautiful woman with an ugly man has been done before but to make it believable, you have to at least make him rich.
Mysteries Decoded: Werewolves Of Kentucky (2022)
Werewolves of Kentucky?
This could more likely be a person with hypertrichosis who is mentally imbalanced. I have an open mind so if they catch a werewolf and scientifically prove it is a werewolf with DNA evidence, it would not shock me.
Tarzan the Fearless (1933)
More of a question than a review.
Does anybody know why Tarzan is Lord Greyfriar instead of Greystoke in Tarzan the fearless? I looked for information and couldn't find it on IMDB. In the note offering 10000 pounds for evidence of his Tarzan's death, it says the note is from the executor or something of the late Lord Greyfriar. Was there some licensing agreement or did someone just make a mistake.
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Inconsistent
While the movie was enjoyable it could not be considered an acceptable entry when Alice Eve starts on a five year mission as Carol Marcus and without any explanation she is AWOL in deep space. Next time they have someone write a script, let's hope they get a professional who doesn't forget continuity.
Mystery of the Sphinx (1993)
Maybe some truth to this theory.
It's interesting how later discoveries support ridiculed and rejected theories to the point that they are eventually accepted. When James F. Romano said that there was no similar evidence of civilizations that supports the theory of a more ancient origin of the Egyptian Sphinx statue, I assume that was before archaeologists estimated the age of Gobekli tepe to possibly around 11000 years old. It's all just theory but the more we learn, the more we find out what we don't know. It would be interesting to find out what lies under the Sphinx's paw.
Space Force: The Hack (2022)
Worse than last season.
Last season they went to the moon but this season, all they did was waste my time with very few laughs. For my own viewing interest, I really could care less if this show gets canceled.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Really?
Before China's voter fraud puppet regime took over, I would have not believed President Orleans response to the coming comet collision possibly believable. Now we see on the leftwing media that it's okay for Biden to leave American citizens to die in Afghanistan, it's normal to destroy America's infrastructure, erase our borders and destabilize America's society. Let's hope we don't really have a comet to deal with because as unbelievable as some might think this could happen, with our current FBI inforced rulers, anything is possible.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
One Of Stephen Spielberg's stupidest decisions.
I have read that it was Stephen Spielberg's decision to fire Megan Fox over her infantile comments. Replacing a well established character with a new character that seems to have no purpose but show how unqualified she is to be an actress was just a distraction that ruined the movie. Megan Fox is not the greatest actress in the world but she was good enough to have become comfortable and natural in her part. She was also much more pleasing to the eye than the awkward distraction they hired to replace her.
That '70s Show: Prom Night (1999)
1970's
You would find it very difficult if not impossible to top Gloria Gaynor as teacher chaperone singing her top song at the prom but they supplied a few other good songs to follow hers. The writers provided interesting plots that the talented actors With talented direction added many seasons to this first one.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Can't wait for coming to America 3
Unlike the Lavelle Junson character, I enjoy super hero movies. That being said Coming 2 America is the best movie I've seen for a long time and not just because super hero actor Wesley Snipes was playing a threatening dictator of a neighboring Country. Anytime you have James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman in the same movie, it's going to be good, add John Amos to the mix with his McDonald's rip offs and more laughs will ensue. Of course Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall led the way but the older stars added the extra icing on the cake to go with the Mcflurries.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Be careful what you wish for.
Did anybody read the script before they accepted it to be produced? After the success of the first Wonder Woman movie with Gal Gadot everybody was anxious for the second one. Be careful what you wish for is never a good stand alone plot and how often do you have to mention the monkeys paw to pound the theme of the movie into the audience's brain.
I've seen movies that had actors who have proven in their previous movies they could act but because of poor direction they seemed like no talent newbies making funny faces for the camera. This was such a movie.
Editing can save a bad movie or destroy a great one. This was a bad movie that failed to seamlessly join each scene together. Everything seemed forced together for reasons that were sometimes apparent but never trying to appeal to the audiences interests. Eat it, swallow it, don't spit it out, they seemed to be telling us. Even Lynda Carter's little cameo appearance was stale and tasteless. It would have been a better movie if everything was left on the cutting room floor. This is worse than the Hulk movies and Fantastic Four movies. Don't expect another stand alone Wonder Woman movie in this decade.
Barnaby Jones: A Gold Record for Murder (1974)
Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Like most of the Barnaby Jones episodes this is well written and well acted by the main cast members and most of the other actors. I understand Marjoe Gortner had a musical background but I found that hard to believe as he sounded like the Chipmunk that Alvin had kicked out of the band. The only movie I watched with him in it was Bobbie Joe and the Outlaw only because I had a juvenile desire to see Wonder Woman's breasts. If he had any talent I could not see it personally but at least he had his 15 minutes of fame.
