The amount these guys travel would be insane for today's couple. Going from America to Scotland for only a night or two is insane by plane. By boat and carriage is just madness. As others mentioned in their reviews any gun shot victim who can live for months doesn't need urgent care. Stupid storyline, it's like the author has some allergy to the U. K. and must get back to America as soon as possible. Makes me very sad.
Every character is just boring. I would have loved to see more cultural references to how funerals were done in those days. I thought that was perhaps the whole reason for poor Ian sr dying. But looks like the researchers couldn't be bothered. No magic in this show. It's supposed to be magical and about time travel. Claire trying to learn another culture and time and we all learn with her but the show has been on for too long now. I remember watching the show and being so inspired by the costumes, googling stuff they mentioned to see if it was true. I haven't done any of that in years and I feel like everyone else is the same. I used to see so many blogs and YouTubers making costumes and recreating the recipes etc. Guess the show just isn't inspiring any more.

I watched this episode last week but even though it's only a week later I barely remember it. I do love a show with lots of arcs but I think too much is going on whilst at the same time nothing happens. I wonder if it is just too many storylines sharing the spotlight that I don't get invested in any of them. I am also just mourning a show about Scottish history being overshadowed by American history. I was super excited to see us back in Scotland again but it was soo short lived. I miss the rolling hills, the accents and the fashion.
I think I'm out of this show now. It used to be so unique but now it's just war, war and war. They making references I don't understand, name dropping what I assume are American historical figures but not being from America I don't know who they are or why I should care.

I feel like the reviews are very split between people who have read the book and those who haven't.
I loved the book and the whole premise of the story but I feel like a lot of the things that are pivotal in the book were skipped.
So from what I remember from the book you are considered ugly if you are not symmetrical, the right height etc. The idea was to create a look of conformity, that is biologically desirable, to look healthy, friendly and trustworthy. In the book she mentions a lot of the time that pretties are mesmerising, that you can't help but what to please them. I also got the impression that everyone looked the same. I was intrigued to see how they would do that in a movie, hire actors that are all the same height, everyone with the same bone structure, hair colour, eye colour but I guess they just decided to photoshop everyone instead. They did a better job in LOTR with the elves, that's what I imagined of the pretties.
I also felt that the world building was just totally glossed over, they never mentioned that this was set 3000 years in the future. The love and trust between Tally and Shay was totally missing. In the book I was half convinced it would become a love story between the two. None of that came across in the movie, it was like they were friends for a week. I also feel like they took away from Tally's intelligence and creativity. She was such a strong female lead in the book but I felt that was missing too.
So for those who felt the movie was rushed or lacking read the book and for those who didn't like it because of the premise then I'm confused why you watched it, didn't you read the synopsis or watch a trailer 😂
I gave it a 7/10. It was a decent movie which I will likely watch again when I want a quicker fix than reading the whole book again but there is definitely room for improvement.
