For goodness sake this isn't an anti religion rant. Plenty of characters in the show are religious including the president himself, who is obviously well-versed in the bible. I suppose they're not Christian fundamentalist though so don't really count as religious at all?
But that character (who was apparently disrespectful by sitting while POTUS was standing) is a bigot who needed taking down a peg or two. These people who cherry pick their favourite bits from the bible.
The scene is based on the 'Dr Laura questions' (Google it) and the character based on 'Dr' Laura Schlessinger.
Great episode and I just love that scene.

I'm certainly not offended by bad language, there's a lot more to be offended by in this world than a bit (or a lot in this case) of effing and blinding. Tourette's on paper! Best to avoid this film if you're only going to clutch your pearls. Apparently most of the language used in this film is actual language used in the letters in real life. So pretty filthy really.
No spoilers but it becomes obvious halfway through who the culprit is. And obvious why the instigator did it.
Some reviewers have complained about the anachronistic casting. Doesn't bother me in the slightest it's a film 'based on' a true story. Who cares? Maybe if you do care perhaps have a think as to why you object to having the adorable Anjana Vasan play a WPC?
Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley are both excellent. And I love that they're best friends in real life. It shows. The rest of the cast are great too.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I did enjoy this. Kept me engrossed. I thought the story was involving if a bit confusing at times. It all came together at the end I thought and I wasn't sure if there were the loose ends other reviewers mentioned. I also disagree that the series was a bit soap opera. Not that there's anything wrong with soap operas anyway. If that's what you like.
BTW why is it people who don't like a particular show often claim the acting is poor? Does not liking a programme make you an acting expert?
And why take the trouble to write a review (or even watch)? I suspect that at least one of the reviewers was a bit irritated with the lead character not being a straight white man.
I did like the characters especially Andie, she was great. And scenery was just gorgeous. Rather hoping for another season.
