Talk Tuah (2024)
Where do I begin..
I'll preface this by saying that my life is not going so well at the moment. I recently dealt with divorce and she took my dog. I lost my job and my self esteem is at an all time low.
That is, I should say, it was at an all time low. After listening to the viral Talk Tuah podcast I forgot about all my hardships. The way she says "Hawk Tuah" is as if she has a vision of the world, and with every Hawk and every Tuah I could clearly sense it, see it.
It's bewildering... such a simple phrase with so much power, you wouldn't believe it. I called my ex-boss and when he picked I shouted "HAWK". I heard a loud grasp as the vision flowed in his mind. "Tuah" I whispered. I don't need to say anything more, this got me my job back.
Afterwards I got a new dog and a hotter girlfriend, who is not afraid to spit on that thang. Haliey changed my life for the better and I'd never go back.
Haliey Welch, if you are reading this, thank you! Keep up the good work, you are making the world a better place.
Summer Time Render: I'm Home (2022)
Spoilers ahead
While this could be a whole series overview, I chose to make it for this episode specifically.
This is one of those pieces of media that teach us the meaning of the word "but". You get the bad guy BUT that wasn't the real bad guy was he? You die to reset and try again BUT the bad guys now know how the timeline functions or they can track you. You kill the final boss BUT that's not his only body.
We get used to the situation being grim, so when the timeline where shadows never got a hold of the island started I expected a final "but", a final kick in the face to end it all. Of course, it didn't happen, but man, can this story turn the slowest of moments into a triller. 9.5/10, you got me, writer.
Summer Time Render: Summertime Re-Rendering (2022)
A final battle
It's simple, it's complicated, it's all this series had been pushed a notch higher.
I loved the characters and while at points it was presented in a messy fashion I still loved it. Why was there an edge inside Heine's world? How was that the edge of time? How was Shide able to control her? Why was the place eroding Shinpei? How were they able to go past the timeline horizon to kill the whale?
While I loved it I feel like something was lost in translation when the story was adaped for screen.
Nevertheless, it did a splendid job as an unoficcial ending to a great thriller and I can't say I was disappointed at any one point.
8.5/10.
Lucifer: A Chance at a Happy Ending (2021)
A story ruined by the screen writers
Story 6/10
The story is fine, Luci becomes God, 'Oh my me' and so on and so forth. I doubt anyone expected a different ending.
Writing 2/10
Every great story can turn out bad when written as a script and this is a perfect example. It was fast and slow at different points, but never at the correct ones.
Visuals / Choreography 1/10
I get that Luci/Michael are portrayed by the same actor, but man, was the fighting scene slow. I had to pause/skip parts of the fight because the choreography was, and I'm being generous here, terrible.
Simply put, I've seen better Power Rangers fights.
Music 8/10
This was not a focus for me so it doesn't affect the final score as much as the other categories.
Hunter x Hunter: Zero × and × Rose (2014)
The madman and the king
If "the right amount of madness" is required to become a hunter, then the chairman has gone way past it. The episode is a beautiful display of power, pride, fear and malice. The art is beautiful, every frame captures the vast emotions of the old man as he turns from a shining symbol of piece into a small withered man, seemingly consumed with madness. Yet it is the latter that the king fears, as the chairman laughs in the face of their carefully planned death.
Gravity Falls: Take Back the Falls (2016)
Breathtaking
"Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls" is the final episode of one of the best animated series I've watched. As expected it gives a proper ending to the story that unfolded in the previous episodes with the defeat of Bill and the saving of Gravity Falls. Breathtaking is a dull word to what the viewer experiences when he watches the episode. Perhaps it is one of the more dramatic ones, meaning it carries a more valuable message, namely to forgive the mistakes, to never give up on those who you love. In the end all of the main characters found a way to put the pain from the past back where it belongs and fight the evil that laid waste upon their city. For some , of course, it was harder than others "All of this is happening because I couldn't shake your stupid hand!(Stanley)" and McGucket on the other hand who found in his heart a place for the one who has destroyed his life "I've tried forgettin' ... maybe I should try forgivin'". In the end there are those characters who were always there for each other : "How do they do it(Ford talking about Mabel and Dipper working together)? It's easy - they are kids, they don't know any better.(Stanley)". What we learn from all of this is we should never give up on those who we love , and once we forgive the mistakes we can fight the worst. In the end Bill was what represented the evil and the strange, the lack of humanity, and it was only too logical that he should die in the memory of a character, leaving only the true, good self which can not be destroyed by any machine. What is left in the end is the person's dreams (the sailing with the "Stan o' War" in this situation), his childish naiveté and endless hope for the better.
On to the funny part, the episode had some on point jokes which you'll have to discover for yourself, and was entertaining throughout.
As for the ending, as expected it did come, and sadly so. What we can hope is that this was no a goodbye, only a little break (as he letter suggests). There were still some unexplored sides of the story, like Blendin's fate or the magical bubble, the stories of Bill's ancient Earth visits. With an ending like this one can only hope that there is more to come.
