Alchemy of the Spirit (2022)
So intensely beautiful
First, how come this pearl only has a 5? That's not fair! If you like arthouse or for example Eraser head, you certainly going to like this one as well. It's about grieve, about dead and what is behind the walls of life. It's dialogue about how it is to be dead, how someone who is alive can be in trust that it is ok when you die. And watch the scenes! It looks boring, but it's not when you pay attention. Don't expect action, but do see the tenderness of love in it.
I watched it twice. First because I wanted to know if it was a five, second time to experience this pearl. It just fits and explains what it is to be dead and what it means when you leave your loved ones behind.
Saltburn (2023)
Visitor Q vs Funny Games =...
If you loved visitor Q, you love this dark dark art movie. If you loved Funny Games, you'll love this one even more. It's a bit dull the first 20 minutes, but then something disturbing is happening and the story will suck you right in. I couldn't stop watching anymore, sometimes even had to look away of the deep embarrassment of some scenes, that are driven by a deep dark fantasy. And I had to laugh so much about the completely absurdism as well. And the end? Well it's not a big surprise, but nevertheless every single strangeness will fall into the right place. It's just a sick movie afterall but I definitely recommend it, if you like the dark places of humor.
Les Gouttes de Dieu (2023)
This is one of the best
I don't know where to start. I started watching because of my interest in wine and france, but it swept me of my feet! This serie is one of the best I've ever seen. If you loved The Queens Gambit, this one is at the same level.
Super good acting, the surroundings in as well france, italy and Japan are stunning. The acting is as if you are there and part of the play. The story is original, beautiful without to many clichés and suprising. Maby you have red the comics as well, but this makes the story come alive in a way as you are reading a really good novel. Just loved this. This beauty is going to be watched more then 1 time.
Mayfair Witches (2023)
So far so good
I love this serie. Just have seen 2 episode and didn't expect it to be like the books. I never do. It's a great performance of a girl exploring her live after some great losses. I looove the new orelans scene to the grave yard where she meets Lasher for the first time. It's somehow a bit like in the book and how I've seen it in front of me while reading. But also wondering why on earth a doctor (intelligent) woman takes a potion and drink it from a complete stranger... And I can't remember if this was in the books. However I've read them ages ago so maby then you can look more open minded to it, then when you've read the books last week. Oh well I think the acting is great as well. Can't wait to see the other episodes.
What Josiah Saw (2021)
Disturbing and horrific
This one makes you want to watch and walk away at the same time. The horror is in the realness of traumatised siblings. The movie is almost a combination between The conjuring, The others, Twinpeaks and oh well, it's by far the most disturbing movie I watched in ages. It made me feel sick and it was fascinating as well. Dramatic also. I can't remember I saw a movie like this when I saw Visitor Q 10 years ago. It's a pearl in horror land. And I loved the acting, the faces said more then the words. The silent wasn't predicitable and in the end every little disturbing piece fel into the right sick place of my mind. This movie is the darkest shadow of fantasy and nightmares. Loved from beginning 'till the end and left me with a big WTF... oh well, go see for yourself.
Rampvlucht (2022)
This series deserves a golden globe!
This is by far the best Dutch serie I've ever have seen. I couldn't stop watching. Joy Delima should have an award for best Dutch actress. However all of the acting is stunning and so well played I had the feeling I was there myself. The other thing is that according to the Dutch government not a lot has changed. The drama is the kind of real live drama that made me cry, over and over again. I wonder if there ever was justice for the victims who survived this disaster. Back then I was to young to realise what had happened there.
The mix of the real news in the past with new pictures now made it look like, it was just yesterday.
I say go see for yourself...
Blonde (2022)
Loved it! Please ignore the low rates...
... this movie is a pearl! I really don't understand the 1 star ratings. Maby it goes to slow for the younger audience? But if you like David Lynch or Lars Von Trier I think this movie meets somewhere in between. The acting is absolutely stunning! Art which is made by the heart. The pictures are well choosen and I loved the idea of a mix between set and private mixing together. I think that it's really good to show the horrors of being owned when famous and eventually being destroyed by selfdestruction. Was there another way out? This film pictures exactly what can go wrong in society with vulnerable people, no matter if someone is famous or not.
In a me too world, this movie should be seen by all woman to show that it is not ok, to exploit woman like this.
Night Sky (2022)
No season 2? What's wrong with Amazon?
I just loved this SF serie. In my opinion one of the best I've ever seen. I had to come in slowely but after episode 2 I couldn't stop. It's a great storyline. So after the last episode I was sad to read Amazon doesn't make another season. I don't get it. Or actually Amazon doesn't get it. This is a pearl amongst SF.
I loved the acting, I love the graphics. So come on Amazon, make more then 1 season!
Valley of the Gods (2019)
Arthouse meets legends
I don't understand why people rate this pearl of an arthouse film so low. I loved it. John Malcovich acts heroic and the beautiful graphics alone make this movie worth to watch.
It is going slow, but at the same time so much is happening.
I like the philosophical idea. I can feel it with the same pictures as this is made.
But hey, if you're a superficial soul who likes action movies with no meaning then don't consider this to watch. You wouldn't understand, not even when they spell it out for you.
Anyways I enjoyed it very much. And this one is a movie I will watch more the one time.
The Endless (2017)
Great endless movie
Haven't seen such a great movie since ever! Loved it! It had something from David Lynch, Stephen King and Groundhog Day, mixed in an endless...
go see for yourself. It's a movie with the feeling of reading a good book.
First Signal (2021)
If you love dialoque and a philosophical idea...
I'm not sure what to think of this movie. The acting was, as if you where looking at a bad theatre play with amateur actors. But the philosophical idea is nice. "We are not alone" and "They" are already here. I was intrigued enough to keep watching.
How ever this movie is seriously low budget. Don't expect action, but a lot of dialoque and discussion about the question: what if we are aware of any aliens walking the earth without making contact, how would a gouvernement react if they found out?
And this is a movie to fall asleep with. But hey, I never could watch a space odyssey without falling asleep eighter..
