Money Heist (2017–2021)

Brilliant
3 February 2022
The brilliance behind this is astonishing! When you keep in mind the fact that the most intelligent of characters and the cleverest of plots are not above those creating them, you can really appreciate genius. And this is it. Two perfect robbery plans nearly perfectly executed. The stories, however, are perfect. The characters in this are very reaslistic. His crew of mishaps is the only variable the Professor cannot perfectly control and thus is the only weakness of his plans. Well, his second plan was not as perfect as the first one, in the sense he had not foreseen all the moves of his opponents, which were cleverer than before, but he still managed to show the genius worthy of a world-class chess player.

Definitely recommend!

Will be watching it again and again for many years.

Elves (2021)

Not worth it
1 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Basically, this little girl makes every possible bad decisions nonstop. When she realises how dumb she's been, guess what? She makes more dumb decisions.

Besides that, it turns out that elves are horrendous and barbaric creatures. Why are there people on this island? No idea. They themselves say the island belongs to the elves. Yet, they live there and they fenced them it. The creatures kill people, but hey, let's not leave. No, instead, let's send more people to their deaths. The people there are just as twisted as the elves they "protect".

And why the hell would you rent a place for christmas there if you don't want people coming in because you want to hide your secret monster pets?

À la hauteur

Excellent film! On se rappelle que c'est un film français les gens? C'est pas Hollywood qui a fait ça! Moi je veux voir une suite à ce film de super-héros moderne!

What's wrong with people? This is an excellent movie! Keep in mind that it wasn't made in Hollywood... I want to see a sequel to this gem of a modern superhero movie!

Lost in Space: Danger, Will Robinson (2018)

Utterly unrealistic
2 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is great but the fact that they're walking around in space on their ship without any safeguard like a carabiner is impossible! No one would ever do that! And why put a manual crank for the hatch outside? Isn't that stupid?

While I'm at it, I thought Dr. Smith/June Harris had way too much luck than real life would actually provide throughout the season. She couldn't really predict with accuracy how strangers or the robot would react to her schemes, especially in such a foreign and dangerous environment. Yet, everything went *exactly* like she wanted.

Very good

Warning: Spoilers
I only have one complaint: that some scenes were rushed (I'm thinking in particular of the translator bit). It would seem, as implied by Liam paying for ten hours of translation and the strange flow conversation that they were there more than one or two minutes, contrary to what the scene suggests. They could have done that more smoothly.

It had great potential

Sadly, I must agree with the negative reviews on this one. I really liked the premiss and the first half of the movie, but you don't get satisfied by the end of the movie. As others have said, great visuals, but not much explanation. Because of the latter, I don't advise watching it.

A let down
9 June 2021
It was watchable and intriguing, but overall disappointing. I loved Resolution and the Endless, the latter being my favorite, but not this one. It just sucked honestly. I watched it until the end because I wanted to give a chance, but the first half is slow, you don't get attached to the characters, and, the ending was so so. The second half was better, but they should have explored that more in depth and used a bigger portion of it for the whole movie.

Identity (2003)

Good concept
31 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say they had a few red herrings. First you think its the prisoner who escaped, then you think it's the false cop, then you realize it's none of those things. Some dummy in the review section wrote the whole plot twist in his title, so I unfortunately saw it coming... They did give a few clues during the movie, but I first thought the prisoner in yellow was the convict they wanted to bring to lawyer meeting. Turns out it was all happening in the convict's mind, which wasn't any of the characters at the hotel. There is one thing which doesn't make any sense to me... How would they know the killer personality would have died or not? How would they know there is no more than one? And wasn't the point to just commit him to a mental hospital to avoid death penalty anyways? Killing the killer personality seems like a fatal flaw to me, but it was a good idea and well presented nonetheless, so I gave it a good score.

Too dumb to be good
25 May 2021
The title says it all. I like Bill Murray, but boy did they go too far on this one! At least try to make me believe it's possible! No one is as clueless as Wallace in real life, let alone his level of "clumsy luck".

Watch it yourself
27 March 2021
Honestly not as bad as I read here. It's not as good as the first, but it was a good movie. Only two movies (trilogies, in fact) received a ten stars from me: the matrix and the lord of the rings. I only give a 9 if it's a really good movie. 7 or 8 is a pretty good movie that I would watch again.

I really don't see what was so problematic here... Seems like a standard hero/fantasy movie. I don't usually like DC movies, but both Wonder Woman worked for me.

Now, on the thinking side, some people have pointed out what might be considered as flaws, and I'll grant some of them, but it was still an enjoyable movie. I've seen worse.

Some flaws mentioned by others: limitations in technology not being realistically respected (at the end), Diana's powers conveniently "expanding" to suit the needs of the moment, and the ending's resolution being a bit too easy. The first and last critiques have some merit. To the extent of ruining the film? I don't think so. I also thought the characters made sense. One might object that they (villains in particular) were more archetypal than real people, but this is based on comics and there is an explanation for their psychological evolution, if you follow the rules and backgrounds the movie presents to us.

I recommend watching it for yourself and making up your own mind.

Excellent, but for one down side
22 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It was a very good action movie and it delivered on the goods, but why must there always be an idiot girl almost ruining everything? She had no good reason at all to show up at the house at the end, if not to get killed. Parker had absolutely everything in control. All she did was almost getting them both killed. Thankfully, everything ended up well, but still. There was no point in making her come at the house. If only they had given us a good reason for this. Anyhow. Still a very good movie on the whole.

Christopher Judge not so serious
6 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Did anyone else notice Christopher Judge giggling behind synthetic O'neill at around 42:30? Just thought that was funny, since he pays an insanely serious character. Made me laugh. Wanted to share that.

Dumd choice
27 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, so why didn't he just go back and save them, if their deaths bothered him, instead of screwing up his life all over again after having painfully fixed it??? It was an entertaining episode, but doesn't make sense what he chose at the end... He wanted to undo his error for years! Moreover, if he wasn't struck by the lightning, then he didn't get his superpowers and couldn't travel back in time to not get struck by lightning... Paradox.

Good and different
23 October 2020
Okay, so there are a lot of mixed reviews here! Sometimes I trust them and others I don't. I had already seen this as a teen, and wanted to see it again and see if I'd still like it. I thought it was very good and to me different than other movies, given the protagonists are "cavemen", or "mountainmen" in this case. Some here say there was nothing new in this movie, well we don't watch the same movies then... I mean, your common archetypes are there but this takes place in the ancient/prehistoric world. Now, for those crying about historical inaccuracies... You do are aware that this is a *movie *, right? Not a documentary... Have you never heard you must suspend disbelief? The story is consistent in what it tells, that's all that matters. It creates a world and presents it to you. When a movie contradicts its own rules, that's when it fails.

Someone here said the part where they need to find the head of the snake (symbols, so not spoilers), why did they not just follow the snake instead of the way they chose? Well, they say it in the movie my man, it's a shortcut! They didn't have the means to follow the snake...

To me this was a different movie, with the mountainmen's and others' spiritualities and yet also the challenging of superstitions, the presentation of different cultures, all the interesting fighting and action scenes; honestly I thought it was great! There also are some breathtaking landscapes in this film. I liked it even more as an adult than as a teen. I also thought the sage's narrating created a nice atmosphere consistent with the movie's themes.

Then again, everyone must make their own minds.

I'm satisfied
19 August 2020
I was a little scared by the negative comments, but having seen the trailer and very much liking the premiss, I decided to watch it anyways and see for myself. It's not the best movie I ever watched, but it was well made and you get surprised. There are mysteries and clues and I'm glad to have guessed it right before it was revealed. Nicely done. The story keeps you entertained throughout. In other words, the movie succeeded in its task. I learned from this experience that I better follow my gut rather than other people's opinions, at least some times.

Also, the story stays well in touch with the rules of the world it presents, in a realistic fashion, which is very good, considering there are many movies who fail miserably at this.

Dark: Vom Suchen und Finden (2019)
Season 2, Episode 5
The plot thickens
1 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I would need to think longer about all the craziness going on since the beginning of the show, but it seems riddled with time papradoxes, yet apparently working. What I don't get is why is Adam willing to change things? Yet, he hasn't done so in all of this time... Noah or him could have saved older Mikkel from his suicide, or rather saved Mikkel from time travel to begin with. Why did middle aged Jonas stop young Jonas to save Mikkel when they traveled to 1986 earlier and saw him a day or two after his disappearance, if he knew that was requires? You really need to be a genius to pull aaaall of these insanely intricate details together. I shall judge the writers and producers by what follows. The only thing I can think of is Adam lied to his younger self, not willing for anything to change. After all, why did he repeat the horrible things he knew ahead of time he would do? Crazy stuff.

I disagree with time being God, that's just false, but anyways. It is fiction.

I don't put any stars, for I need to judge the whole thing together at the end.

Okkupert (2015–2020)

Well done!
28 June 2020
This is the first political show I actually enjoyed. I watched Designated Survivor, but in the middle of season two or at the end of it, I lost interest. One thing about Okkupert is that it doesn't drag the story indefinitely. In real life, politics and conflict never end. The fact that it's Norwegian is new and exotic and I liked it a lot. You always wonder what will happen next and who will win. The decisions and characters also very much resembled real life people and what they would do in such situations. I recommend this show.

***SPOILERS FOLLOW***

I personally didn't like how the characters' moral compass seemed to disintegrate during the show, but it nevertheless seemed very realistic, unfortunately. At some point, you may wonder who is the good guy or the bad guy, or if there even are such things. Although Fritt Norge used violence and deception, I found myself wishing for their "team" to win. They were the only ones really trying to free Norway. Collaborating with the Russians only ensured they would stay longer, since it was obvious they were there to stay and probably would annex Norway someday. Evidence for this: the many illegal immigrants, most of them undercover russian agents.

It seems to me the best thing to avoid all this mess would have been for Jesper to destroy the gas and oil installations in the ocean right after learning of the EU's plot to take over. "We said we close our facilities and that's the end of it, no one will make us produce something we don't want to". That's my thinking. But then again... Would they have changed their mind or retaliated? Notwithstanding, it would have taken away the one thing they were there for. Norway did warn them for years that they would close their facilities and they did have an alternative source of energy : thorium plants.

It's sad that in the end everyone used blackmailing, theft, murder, adultery, and lying to get what they want. That was kind of depressing. I hope it's not like that in real life! They also seemed to want kill everyone in the show at the end (for realistic reasons though). Thankfully, Norway was free again. Kind of. Not really...

The last message of the show from Jesper: wanna make the world clean? Make it clean yourself! Don't wait for others!
