Movies like this make me really, really sad. I just can't understand why the film industry keep wasting money on cr*p like this when there are so many talented film makers out there. Hey studios! - please invest in better ideas, better scripts and better, more creative people! This is an absolutely awful movie in every way. Very bad acting (what the h*ll is Randy Couture doing, trying to act? It's ridiculous!), bad decor (think cheap TV-show) and bad special effects (I can do better on my home PC). I watch almost anything and seldom take the time to leave comments. However, in the case of Scorpion King 2, I have no choice - I must warn others, I must try to rescue them from this horrible production. Personally, I feel offended (and embarrassed) having spent time watching this . . .
I've watched a fair amount or horror movies and I know that a lot of them don't amount to much. Either they're not scary enough - sometimes to the point of being ridiculous and funny - or they're just lacking logic. What's the point of a complex and confusing story if the viewer never gets the answers? Also, there is a misconception that people watching horror movies (teenagers if you ask the studios) don't really care about cinematography, lighting etc. This is of course plain wrong. The classic horror movies are not scary only because of the visual effects etc but because of a skillful use of the mentioned qualities as well as music and tempo. Room 6 fails completely by these standards and is just a total waste of time (and money). There's no point to the story at all and it qualifies as one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen. It contains a beginning without intrigue (you're ready to switch off after 15 min), a middle with scary zombie looking people that appear here and there just to be scary, a lead character that spends most of the film running around screaming and an end that makes an embarrassing attempt to bring some logic to the story (and fails utterly). Why is it that studios invest in scripts like this one when there are so many talented young filmmakers out there with actual stories to tell?!? Don't watch this one - if you want to see something scary, just watch "The Ring" or something over again or better yet, a classic Hitchcock!
At first this seems to be an exciting story similar to "The Silence of the Lambs". The viewer is quickly thrown into action, following a team of FBI profilers during an operation. The cinematography is very carefully designed to be quite similar to that of "Seven" which I think suits the story perfectly. Unfortunately, as the movie continues into the next segment, all that is left behind and a new story begins. The established atmosphere which I just gave credit for disappears and the viewer is left with a few characters on an isolated island where they are to practice their profiling skills. When one of the team members is mysteriously killed it sets of widespread paranoia and the "who is the killer-hunt" begins. What started out looking like a good murder story turns out to be a boring and very predictable one, although the photography and the use of the cameras is without a doubt of high standard. The special effects are not that special, we have seen it all before and better. What makes me really sad is that actors like Chistian Slater and Val Kilmer decide to participate in movies like this one. It should have been obvious just by reading the script that the final result is going to be totally embarrassing. Also, speaking of actors, not many of them give an acceptable performance in this one (except the two I just mentioned). They seem to totally lack emotions! The best example, or worst?, is when one of their team mates is killed and the group's reaction is a lot more like "oh no - now who could have done that" rather than "Oh my god, what should we do - he's dead!". Once you get the answers in the end it's impossible to track that back through the story with any logic whatsoever. My guess is that they decided in the very end of shooting the film who would be the killer and then just didn't care if it didn't add up looking at the previous events. In short - this movie is a waste of time and money.
