Conclave (2024)
Don't see the late showing you may fall asleep
Honestly I went into this theatre expecting something excellent and came away very disappointed. We spent the entire two hours waiting for something dramatic to happen and literally nothing happened except constant posturing on the vote and a bomb blast.
Even the vote wasn't very well developed or interesting. By the 2/3rds way point when you start looking at your watch it's never a good sign.
Great cast and stellar lead acting by Fiennes, but really lacked develop of storyline. I'd give it a pass unless you're like me and have seen literally the entire imdb.com top 250.
It'll no doubt get Oscar nod for Fiennes, but lacked the depth to hold my interest.
6/10.
Sex Education (2019)
From a 9/10 to a 3/10 in one season!
Never have I ever seen a show go from so good to so bad so quickly. I said it has officially jumped the rainbow shark. Did they fire the writers and hire a bunch of teenaged boys to write season 4. The college is ridiculous, a lot of the new characters couldn't act their way out of a wet paper bag, and our fav character went from being out fav to dreading when he would be back onscreen.
What id like to know is how it could go from so good to so bad. I love diverse characters and have no issues with some of the new ones, but we don't need everything forced down our throats. We finished the season as quickly as possible because as we kept saying to each other "let's just get it over with!".
Yellowstone (2018)
Chinese actress as Indigenous? Uh no
I stopped watching it when I noticed that rather than cast an indigenous actor in the female role they instead chose an attractive Chinese actress. Like wtf. Better yet I read that she "identifies" as Cherokee even though she isn't even one molecule indigenous, which is completely ridiculous.
Yeah it's candy this show. Good for a short time, but not a lot of depth of characters and to be honest almost all of the storylines are entirely unrealisitc. One season was enough for me. There are way too many other great shows on television. To each their own without doubt.
Especially in this day and age I'm surprised not only did they get away with this, but there isn't a bit of an uproar. Remember that every time you see her on screen, she ain't Indian.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Decent premise
But man the verbose diarrhea about religion and life made me want to fast forward constantly, especially in the last, please dear God end soon, episode.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Way to dragggggg it out!
Ok I'm starting to get tired of Netflix and their time wasting. This was a story that could have been told in 90 minutes. Instead we had to over and over again listen to YouTuber wannabe detectives and their cockamamy theories. I would just find a shorter doc on this story and be done with.
Cut out the flak NETFLIX!
Bodied (2017)
Mediocre rap film
I wasn't overly impressed. The sound wasn't the greatest and therefore couldn't understand some of the words they were spittin'. Also a few cringe worthy moments especially near the end. If rap battling includes making fun of people with serious illnesses then it ain't for me. It was funny and super cheesy at times, which I laughed out loud at.
Don't take it too serious, it's campy and fun, but not great or a 10, I've given out maybe 8-10x 10's ever.
Celda 211 (2009)
Brutal writing, brutal acting, comical character actors
This was like a B movie comedy. I love crime films, but the acting in this was very poor aside from the main actor. It reminded me of overly dramatic Spanish soap operas. I saw it at the Vancouver film festival and myself along with quite a few others were laughing out loud at the comedy that was unfolding in this supposed dramatic prison film. So many things were unbelievable it was difficult to take any part of it seriously.
I gave it a 5, because the comedy and characters were entertaining, but so unrealistic as a prison film that it just ruined it for me. I would say go and see it it may not be the best movie you will see, although some people i spoke to before said it was an excellent prison film. Just don't go into it expecting realism because unless you've smoked something on the way in, you won't get it.
Maurice Richard (2005)
Cinderella Man, Hoosiers, Rocky....
There are many great sports films and The Rocket belongs among the best of the best. If you liked Cinderella Man i would hazard to say that you might like The Rocket even more, especially hockey fans. I, myself am a fan of the Montreal Canadians and took two friends who were not and they both said that it was a great, great movie.
I went into the theatre with modest expectations, as it was a Canadian made film without a huge budget and yet when i left i felt like i had to wipe the grime from the factory that the rocket worked off of my clothes. I have no doubt that this film will be nominated for best foreign film at the Oscars next year, you don't need to know who the rocket is to really enjoy this film.
Bravo!
