I never watched any of Seinfeld when it was first broadcast. It just seemed to pass me by. However, I'm now binging it on Netflix.
I'm currently on Season 5 and although these are better than earlier episodes, it's still very hit-and-miss.
I don't understand how it gets the amount of love it gets, as the writing is mediocre at best. The situations that befall the gang are usually so unrelatable that they verge on the ridiculous.
The characters themselves are annoying. Elaine bounces from partner to partner and, although she has some humorous lines, she just reminds me of a Muppet.
Kramer seems to be verging on worrying with his wild mannerisms, and you tend to think that he is only a hair away from flipping out and going postal. I was so, so glad when the inane clapping and general hysteria that occurred from the sycophantic audience each time he entered Jerry's apartment was curtailed.
Jerry tends to be the most normal among them, and you wonder why he hangs around with the others. What's even more concerning is that George is his best friend. Where do I begin with this character?
George is the single most reason which makes me dislike the show. His continued narcissism and self-centred personality traits go beyond funny and tread wildly into deeply concerning territory.
How does he manage to find these constant streams of women? They must realise what an odious little loser he is from their first interaction.
Never before have I wished a character was so forcibly removed from a show than this one.
There are many other factors that have me constantly eye-rolling, but I think this is enough.
I'll continue watching as I hope that it'll get better, although deep in my heart I suspect it won't.
