Killer: A Journal of Murder (1995)
The Film is better than people are scoring it.
If you are into the genre, as I am, this is a perfectly acceptable film, Woods is fine in it, I feel people either love this guy, or hate him. Should not distract from the story and he is pretty good in it, I am in the love James woods camp. (Videodrome is awesome- all hail the new flesh-) But its not just Woods in this, all the supporting cast are good, it was filmed on a modest budget, but still retains that polished 90's edge to it, does not come across as cheap though. Give this ago if you have not seen it but do not be expecting something along the lines of silence or seven, you will be disappointed.I give it an 8, for the cast, the story and the time it was made in. And I will watch it again in another five years. On a side note, people should judge films a little better, rankings on this site are getting stupid, this is better than a lot of films getting a 9. And there are some film greats that are genre breaking that rank in below an 8, sort it out a little bit please, my fellow community.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
The Film is better than people are scoring it.
This is a cracking little action horror. nice take on the vampire myth, don't know why it is being knocked, great for what it is, a lot more entertaining than people are voting. Watched it with a big group of friends,we all thought it was great! Stop being so judgemental, worth a 8 for a Friday night movie. Its no Dracula but it is good fun and well made. Seeing as it is based on short book and takes a well loved historic figure, then turns him into Presidential version of van Helsing(no spoiler,if you don't get that from the title, there is not much hope for you walking and chewing gum.)I have to say,it is done well. Give it a go,worth a better score than it is being given! Anyway, where else are you going to see honest Abe, kicking arse and taking names?
Pontypool (2008)
This should be rated higher! And this is why.......
I am appalled that this fantastic little horror film is not in the 9 bracket. I am sick of these types of movies, for those of you who have seen the film, you know of what sort I am referring to. But, Pontypool has renewed my love of them, a total mould breaker, intelligent concept, supremely acted, especially by McHattie. This was filmed on a low budget and with a low cast list. The suspense that builds up in you as you watch the plot unfold, reminds me of the Orson Wells version of War of the worlds. The acting being as good as it was, I found imagining being on the other end of the radio, listening to the events transpiring, utterly terrifying. I have not been so blown away by a horror in a very, very long time. If you do not get the concept or wanted more gore, fine, but please do not allow yourself to vote such a low score because it was not generic enough for you. Be warned this film is a genre buster and it will leave you thinking, what if! But, if you want masses of gore, blood and violence, I would advise you look for something else, try 'The SIgnal' or 'Tokyo Gore Police'....This is a thinking persons monster movie.
