Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (2011)
BAND BAAJA BAARAAT magic was missing........
When the Magnificent team of BAND BAAJA BAARAAT came together for a new motion picture -- LADIES VS RICKY BAHL, the expectations definitely soared upwards.BAND BAAJA BAARAAT was an underdog with no expectations attached to it, but it was the dark horse of 2010.LADIES VS RICKY BAHL fails to meet the expectations due to the predictable & stupid script.
Its a conman's story, where Ranveer fools 3 gals Aditi Sharma, Dipannita Sharma and Parineeti Chopra and takes a huge sum of money from each of em..later the 3 gals appoint Anushka to con him back and get the money...but finally he falls for Anushka..and he changes...But the planz by which they con each other were soooo stupid..
The story is such a cliché...and takes inspiration from the Hollywood movie "John Tucker Must Die".
Ranveer is the scene stealer here, he slips into the shoes of the character wid perfect ease. he may not be the Quintessential good lookin hero but has the aptitude to go places if he chooses the right films and makes the right career moves. Anushka Sharma exudes solid screen presence with natural acting. She looked oh so hot wearin the "Black Bikini".Dipannita Sharma & Aditi Sharma were OK in their respective parts. But Parineeti Chopra is a complete surprise, She has wonderful screen presence and acts freely. Movie goers will adore Parineeti & her character...
On the whole, LADIES VS RICKY BAHL is a descent one time watch. One definitely expected more from the director of the immensely likable BAND BAAJA BAARAAT.Ranvir & Anushka as Ricky & Ishika were da highlight of the movie........but " BITTU & Shruti" ..""Bread Pakode Ki Kasam"...I missed u & ur awesome chemistry...
The Dirty Picture (2011)
Vidya Balan...the USP of this movie.............
"THE DIRTY PICTURE" with an 'A' certificate is a biopic on the life of Silk Smitha,a southern siren of the 80s.Many will argue tat dis film is filthy, lewd, sleazy and every other word that has the same meaning. But it is because it's based on someone who embodies all these adjectives.
Wid a highly entertaining 1st half, and a mediocre 2nd, the film falls short of being truly remarkable. Overall, a big thumbs up to "The Dirty Picture", which is in its truest meaning, an entertainer. And its been proved as it has set the cash registers at the box office on fire.
The film belongs to Vidya Balan and she does absolute justice in playing her part to perfection. She seems to have submitted herself completely to her director and to the demands of the script and has acted so naturally that it is difficult to imagine anyone else doing what she has done in the film. She would easily bag every best actress award this year for her remarkable show of talent.
Naseeruddin Shah is very good as the Lecherous South Indian superstar, he plays his part very well. Emraan Hashmi as the 'Hatke' film director & the narrator of the movie does total justice to his character. Tussarr Kapoor's role is the weakest link in the film, he has no expressions nor his role was of any importance. He simply bagged the role because of his Mother & Sister being the producers of the movie.
Royal Bengal Rahasya (2011)
Royal Bengal Rahasya is a perfect entertainer for all Feluda fans
Feluda is back with the latest film "Royal Bengal Rahasya".The story is set in the forests of North Bengal, where Feluda gets an invitation by a Zamindar who is a great hunter as well as a wildlife writer to crack an old riddle, which is a hint to a hidden treasure. Then starts Feluda's, Topshe's & Lal Mohon Babu's highly adventurous encounter with some hidden secrets of the Zamindar family, lies, a death, few mysterious characters & most importantly with a "Man eater".
The film is a real visual treat because of the exotic locations. The scenes shot in the jungle as well as in the palace were simply outstanding. The editing and direction was exceptionally good...It is definitely amongst one of Sandip Ray's best works till date.
Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Saheb, Bhaswar Chatterjee, B.D.Mukherjee, Debesh Roychoudhury, Paran Bandopadhyay acted wonderfully. But the real surprise package was late Bibhu Bhattacharjee, it is his last role as Jatayu before he passed away last month... and this is indeed his best performance in the shoes of the character "Jatayu".
Royal Bengal Rahasya is a perfect entertainer for all Feluda fans....and in my opinion is better than other earlier released Feluda movies which were directed by Sandip Ray....
Don 2 (2011)
Stylish & Slick
Don 2, the sequel to Don starts from where the prequel ended.Though the story is surreal, impractical and seems like fantasy, the director gives it a slick treatment. It doesn't let go, even for a moment. The plot is stylishly crafted, with every twist and turn falling into place. Farhan Akhtar yet again proves that he is the most stylish film maker of recent times. The first half may seem cold in comparison with the 2nd, as the 2nd half takes the film onto a different level and keeps you on the edge of the seats. The script will mostly appeal to the urban crowd who are absolutely hooked onto international thrillers. The twists and turns in the 2nd hour may not be totally understandable to the average viewer.
Action is the USP of Farhan Akhtar's film. The chases, the fights, the destructions, escapes were spectacular and have all been done at par with International Standards. The car chase between Priyanka and Shah Rukh was unbelievable. The cinematography was top notch, be it the indoor or the outdoor shots. The locations in Berlin, Zurich, Malaysia & Thailand, where it was shot completely came alive. The stylization & look for every actor was so well defined.
Shah Rukh Khan uses all his charisma & attitude and woos the audience with his charm. He is the the lifeline of the movie. And this is definitely amongst his best works till date. Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani,Om Puri, Sahil Shroff, Kunal Kapoor, Alyy Khan & Nawab Shah were very very good in their respective parts. Lara Dutta looks glamorous but has nothing else to do.Shah Rukh Khan & Priyanka Chopra's chemistry for those 5 minutes was crackling.
Like a spot on the moon, the cameo by Hrithik Roshan was unnecessary & forced. Hrithik looked awesome but playing Shah Rukh's masked avatar was totally bizarre. As their height, voice and body do not share any damn similarity.
What makes Don 2 a winner is,the public cheers every time a task is accomplished by Don. This is indeed credible because Don, after all, is a negative character.
Special mention is the last scene where Shah Rukh Khan rides a bike and passes on a bridge over the French Riveira, Oh My God-he has never looked so handsome before. All will definitely skip a heart beat. Don 2 ends with the promise of Don 3. Mr.Akhtar-we are waiting.
