Scents and Sensibility (2011)
Drab and Dull
Anything resembling Jane Austen was purely coincidental. This is really a goody-two-shoes Hallmark knock off. The characters were not completely or even partially developed. The costumes were a joke. The music was annoying.
The acting is at an atrocious high school play level.
This film is an extremely drab and slow moving version and only a hint of the real story peeks through.
Even if you don't know the original story, this over simplistic script
blatantly telegraphs the outcome.
I gave it 2 stars because the only interesting aspect is the beautiful Utah outdoor scenery,
otherwise this is a waste of 89 minutes of your life.
Android (1982)
Junior High Space Sex
Writer Don Keith Opper couldn't get girls. Don wrote a play describing how he might get girls in space. Don somehow got funding for his idea. Sex sells and this is the kind of preteen garbage that you get. The dialog in the play is simplistic at best. The characters were one dimensional. Some reviewers talked about this film as another coming-of-age story, but I did not see it. Klaus Kinski was especially creepy and even though he got top billing, he was rarely in any of the scenes. I spent the entire movie trying to pinpoint Brie Howard's actual ethnic background. Avoid this one. Rent 2001: A Space Odyssey or read Playboy. This junior high play could have taken place in any 12 year old boy's bedroom.
Red Faction: Origins (2011)
Snore!
I wanted to like this film but it just would not let me. I find it excessively annoying that other reviewers compared it to games that I have never played or ever will. I wanted the movie to stand on its own merits. Battling the forces of nature on Mars is intriguing but battling the same old bad guys is not. The only recognizable actor was an aged and bloated Robert Patrick (Terminator 2). The rest were a bunch of strangers. This is a futuristic tale about a young brother and sister separated during a raid but the grown up brother finally finds grown up sister in the clutches of a maniac (with the requisite black eye patch). Brother gets sister back and patches up the conflict between the factions. Snore!
The Day the Earth Stopped (2008)
What a Waste and so many stupid mistakes
Minus 5 stars - You know the movie is in trouble when the first 15 minutes focus on a n@ked p0rn star wondering through the woods while still managing to wear way too much makeup. We are supposed to believe the she is the alien. Bad bad bad acting!!!! There was no action in this 'action' movie. The military people were stereotypes that were supposed to be scary but were not. Excuse me: you can't just put a lab coat and glasses on anybody and expect us to believe that he is a scientist. If you are going to have a birth scene, you can't use a 6 month old baby. And what's with the war-monger type who continued stroking his beard? Just plain creepy!! I wanted some robot action and got almost none. This movie is not just bad - it is offensively bad. The one star is reserved for the music which is the ONLY thing that appeared to be professionally done.
My Mother's Secret (2012)
My Mother's Secret or (How NOT to write a script)
Whew!! I don't know what the other viewers actually saw, but what I saw was a Hot Mess!! -Middle School level script -horrible acting -dark overdone background music -The Most Implausible Plot Ever!! Really?!?!-a pregnant woman is willing to stay alone in a strange town when it is obvious (even to the Middle School student that wrote this) that she is endangering her baby?!?! A review of the votes was unbelievable as well. The only thing that I can imagine is that half of the people voting are lying about their ages and they are also Middle School students!! It was nice to see Yannick Bisson. His face was the only saving grace. It is odd to see that even though he had a 'major' role he was all the way at the bottom of the cast list. I personally think that he asked for this so that he would not have to be associated with This Real DOG!!
