Becoming Jane (2007)
Why oh why did they do this so badly
This movie is such a waste of great potential. I almost can not believe it that the crators had all they did: first of all the two great leads, then all the costumes, all the intricate details and everything, a great big budget buy the look of it all, then to have all that thrown away and make an awfull movie, really. There are none redeeming qualities of this artistic accomplishment. Sometimes the way of filming makes it seem as a documentary. The scenes are long and mostly dull, but at times even absurd. Story is uneven and unimaginable. The dialog is often unclear (as to fit the time) and more than often overly expressive (too much for the time). I am truly sad this was made at all. Such a waste of potential.
Little Italy, Los Angeles (2018)
How come this is not a big sitcom??
It has all the components of a great sitcom. Very good storytelling for such a short form. It wraps everything up in under 15mins. Very clever humor, social insights and real life situations. Extremely well produced, I was so surprised it was an idependand production, it doesn't lack anything. The acting and the chracters are layered, and for such a format, that is a wonder. Dialogue is very real and quick. Gread job all around. Hope some big company picks it up and the show keeps developing. It has a feeling of curb your enthusiasm, but with a west coast flavour, so good! Recommended for sure!!
Back to Black (2024)
As good as a biopic can get
I most universally hate biopics, especially of music stars, so when my friend suggested we should go and see this film in cinema, I was convinced this was a bad idea. Just to say I was ready to hate the film, even more so because Amy is among the few stars I was so interested in that I saw every interview and all the docupics out there.
So, as biopics go, this was a masterpiece. I read here a lot of different opinions, so this is just my two cents. The actors did such an amazing job, they take the cake, but everything else was on point, I was so very pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, it does not 100% follow the real timeline (so what?) and yeah, it puts focus on her emotional relationship with her grandnan and her Blake, but then again so did she every chance she got! Almost everything in this film was in line with the things she or ther closest people told us about her life. She was all about her man (among other addictions) and the great desire to have a happy family with him (she was delusional ofc). To be a mum and a wife, that was her real goal in life. No, she was not a typical feminist, deal with it.
The creators took all the pieces we have of her and made it reflect in truth her most important relationships and her immortal personality and soul AND they did that through her songs, which all sounded so good and raw and real. I think this was done beautifly!
Playing It Cool (2014)
Not at all that bad
It is an okay movie, really. With some bad parts, but also with some redeemable parts. First of them being Chris Evans as the loved-up damaged hot guy girls dream about, but also the rest of the cast is great in their respective roles (all of them super predivtable for a rom-com). It seems they wanted to make an "original" rom-com with ALL the cliches and to tell a "real" love story (maybe even someone's real life story) while making fun of the cliches and making them work in some other way. The result is mediocre, but overall not a failure.
The movie has some serious flaws in the storytelling, but it really is NOT that bad as the rest of the reviews suggest. Some scenes and characters are very good and real. It seems that the crew of the movie had a lot of fun filming it. It also has some good humor. Not bad at all.
Medici (2016)
First season masterfull, the rest - lame
Whyyy does this happen between the seasons to change the crew completely, so that they don't even can be considered the same show? First season was truly exeptional effort by all cast and crew, so I was so exited to have two more seasons of Medici, just to be totally bumbed in the first 10minutes of the season 2 sepisode 1 - it is so damn lame in all aspects, so different than the season 1, it is shocking. Dialogue and acting are so so so terible, with Sean Bean as good as he is but completely wrong for the part! It just makes it that more sad not to be able to enjoy the complete story, such a great show it had potential to be.. Just whyyyy???
The Tourist (2022)
Good and bad, overall okay
So this series set out to be unusual and to fight against clichees only to stumble upon all of them around the bend.
It tries to be Fargo meets Boure Indentity, with added offbeat humor, which is fine and all, but...
The slow burn is too damn slow and barely holds attention. The plot was aimed for a big reveal, but left me underwhelmed. The best thing are the two leads, they kind off make you want to stick till the end, otherwise I would've given up after the espisode two. Many parts of the plot were stupid, so the screenplay would be the worst thing. The unusual couple was a good attempt to explore human connection, for me that would be the highlight of the story.
Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli (2024)
It is good if you like Pete
I like him so I had a good time :) his goofy delivery is his best comedy asset.
Jokes are getting longer, which works sometimes, but I think his style of comedy is not suited for storyteling mode. Some jokes had been pushed too hard, like the one with the stalker, it felt like a confusing dream. His closing story about the house was very weak to close off on. But somehow this all works for Pete because we like him.
He is just that likeable that comedy doesn't need to be good for a special to be interesting and worth while. Still, he needs to work on his comedy a bit harder, this felt like less effort than the previous one, all seems slacked, put together just to film a Netflix special. I whish he would put his heart in it, like he seemed to do for SMD. I look forward to the next one and wish him the best.
The Machine (2023)
I wanted it to be better
I am sorry, it just is not a good movie in any way, but I love Bert's personality and it was shot in my country, Serbia, so I mainly stayed for the cameos of Serbian actors and the scenery. Otherwise I would never watch it past 10mins, it is bad as bad could be. Comedy is present for about three seconds of the movie.
IMO the worst thing is the writing and the dialogue, the plot is weak too, but Bert's acting in some heartfelt scenes might be worse. Hope he made some money off of this project and that he enjoyed making it. I know some of his fans enjoy this type of movies, so this should be a treat for them.
You People (2023)
Just the cast
The cast was great (well, except for the leads) but all the rest in this movie was pure trash, with sooo much inacurate and twisted facts about today's society, like they did this on porpose to alienate the viewers. I can not see anyone making this movie while thinking it was awsome.
The best things in this movie are fashion and interior design...and Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She had such a great genuine reaction when her son told her he would propose to his girlfriend. This was the best scene in the whole movie.
Jonah Hill was too old for the part and also too tanned and didn't went far from his usual character. His by now wornout humoristic manners and basic acting skills could do a lot more with good director and script, but he was just baaad in this role. He and the lead woman had 0 chemistry. He would be more convincing as friendzoned simp.
It really is such a shame a movie like this was ever made, I bet the budget was big, this could have been at least an okay somewhat entertaining comedy, but it was a crindge fest.
Hasta el cielo: La serie (2023)
Not bad, better than the film
The film had bad casting IMO of the two main characters, but here they did very well, very strong leads, both of them. And the characters are better written, but it has the same character as the film it follows, but it is an upgrade in every aspect. It is not slow paced and there are no time jumps.
The series has its weak links, many impossible scenarios, shortcuts and easy resolves, but the story as it flows has such a strong grip so you dont tend to concentrate on these flaws. Only in the beginning and the end do the flaws really stand out, but many Hollywood movies and series have much bigger flops in the story. Anyway, I cant wait for the Season 2.
Persuasion (2022)
What was that???
I waited till the last second for the punchline, I honestly thought the whole thing was a joke. Can not believe this was serious.
They had everything to make a great movie, they made a joke of a movie. I honestly can not believe this was even possible, like they were all high in the production. How can anybody with a sane mind think this is even close to a serious movie? This is a joke and a complete waste of time.
