I'm obviously biased because I wrote the book, KISS HER GOODBYE, on which this series pilot was based. Except for that, and a terrific visit to the set, however, I had no involvement in the show and can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised by the superb quality of the production.
Most book to movie adaptations tend to distort the source material to such a degree that it's not always recognizable. But Mr. Dinner, who adapted and directed, stayed true to the book while making just the right changes to make the story a viable television series property.
The writing, directing, acting and production values are spot on. Some of the best you'll see in television. When I first saw the pilot, I felt as if I was watching a movie rather than a TV show. It saddens me that CBS decided not to go forward with the show, but such is life in Hollywood. My only real regret is that very few people have seen the wonderful work Timberman/Beverly (JUSTIFIED, ELEMENTARY) did in producing this show.
