This show was fun to watch for the first 2 seasons for the fresh content it offered, even though Frank Underwood's rise to power seemed too easy and convenient. Now at the end of season 5,The manipulations and bullying of the Underwood's now feels tedious. All those formidable opponents at the start of the season conveniently turn out to be dumb and fragile by the time the season ends. All those dozen side plots never lead to anywhere. The way things are going, the Underwoods could murder someone on live TV and still nothing would happen! There's not a single character on the show you can root for. Despite watching the Underwood's for 5 seasons, you don't know much about them, except that they're power hungry and would stop at nothing. You can only continue watching for the Underwood's downfall and it never happens.
I've binge watched all 7 seasons and loved it, though it was slow comparatively. But I think this show requires a second viewing to understand the reasons behind many characters' behaviors and evolution. The characters are so complex and multi layered along with the writing that it's hard to observe everything when you binge watch. Writing is absolutely superb along with great performances and authentic characters. I think the creators have got feel of the period, the show was set in absolutely right along with the character behaviors in that period. The relationship between Don and Peggy is one of the most beautiful things to be shown on TV. Don't miss this if you like Drama and character driven shows.
Though all the initial episodes were fine, they were not special by any means. With each episode, as we get to know the characters, the show seems to be growing on me. The friction between the two main characters has been played out well and with each episode dealing with past secrets or personal lives, the show gets interesting and promises to be special. The supporting characters have not yet been fully involved and some of them seem promising enough. The performances of most of the cast is fine. But, Dean Winters and Josh Duhamel have been very good along with the girl who plays Holly. I like the way the show does not limit itself to being only a comedy or drama.
