Love on Layaway (2005)
Heres The Plot 4 those wanting to know
LOVE ON LAY-A-WAY is the laugh-out-loud story of three different couples living in a ghetto-fabulous brownstone who are all looking for same thing-love. First, there's Monique Graham (Deborah Cox), who feels like her relationship with commitment phobic boyfriend Anthony (Mel Jackson) is on layaway and he's making the absolute lowest monthly payments. Next, there's Epiphany (Joi Campbell) a single mother who has to decide who will be the man in her life, her new boyfriend Reggie (Chico Benymon) or her six-year-old son, Man Man. Finally, there's Ms. Willanetta (Cassi Davis), who after just getting saved no longer wants to have relations with her boyfriend of twelve years Renzo (Buddy Lewis).
Powerhouse vocalist Deborah Cox soars through almost every song she sings and the rest of the cast add their comedic and dramatic talent to this truly wonderful and romantic production. Wrapped in a warm musical score written and composed by Rob Lewis and The Movement, this production is an instant classic that you'll watch for years to come.
DVD Cast: Deborah Cox (multi-platinum recording artist), Mel Jackson (Soul Food and Deliver Us From Eva), Marla Gibbs (The Jeffersons, 227) Mykel Shannon (General Hospital), Buddy Lewis (The Brothers), Chico Benymon (Half and Half), Cassi Davis, Joi Campbell, and a special cameo appearance by Alexander O'Neal.
The Good News (1997)
The New Amen
Cant believe this show only lasted a few episodes.
One thing I would have expected to have been mentioned on this page is that it is the new version of the 80's TV show 'Amen'. They even use the same set design of the church. But wondering if they assumed we (the viewers) wouldn't get that. They would have made better or lasted longer if they just went with the angle of it being same church and having Roz recreate her role from Amen and not play a totally different character. Also if they could have gotten Sherman to made a guess appearance Im sure it would have lasted longer.
Personally loved the scene with the dance and they brought in the gangs. Was totally hilarious with the final dance sequence.
Sex and the City (2008)
The Book Version ruined it
I really wanted to go see this movie (via theaters) but now already seen it. Due to Sex and the city 'The Movie' book version. Was up at bookstore and decide to thumb through it. Just assuming it was only going to be talking about how they made the movie and a basic storyline.
Oh NO ~ The Book was basically the script (including filmed shoots). I couldn't believe it. It was like being in the theater without the darkness, popcorn, and a significant other to hold the drinks.
I would give this movie (going on not seeing every single shoot) ~ 1 Thumbs up ... just for me there was really no big difference of them putting it on the big screen versus just having HBO produce and run it as a TV movie.
Sprung (1997)
6 degrees of separation
Rusty C and Tisha Campbell were paired up 3 times that I personally know of. They first were in School Daze, you may not recognize them though, since he didn't have much hair then and was much younger. While Tisha 'of course' was wearing extensions/wig (to this day I'm not completely sure). Then he was a writer for the movie 'House Party 2' starring Kid n Play. While Tisha played Kids love interest (in all 3 versions that is). And now they starred in this movie together - this time playing opposite one another. The question I ponder is did they interact prior to this. In 'Daze' they didn't have much contact on the movie screen but could have spoken off camera. While with HP2 they most likely didn't speak unless she confronted him on her lines in the script. Who knows there maybe other movie/TV spots/etc that puts these two together.
Thea (1993)
The 3 Ladies of TV
Yvette Wilson, Countess Vaugh, and Brandy have all appeared on Thea, Moesha, and The Parkers together. Although you may argue that Countess was not on Thea , she did do a guess appearance on it
and the same for Brandy who did several guest spots on the Parkers. Who is to say that they may have appeared in other TV or Movie spots together. My favorite guess appearance would have to be that of Brandy on The Parkers. Where she played 'Herself' or shall we say one of herself as Cinderella in the Kimberly Halloween Party episode. While of course Countess played 'herself' sort-of as 'Kim' (the rapper that is). If you guys know of other TV or Movie spots these ladies appeared together in please post it for further review.
Dream Date (1989)
Cosby Show Ripeoff
Not stating ripe-off as being bad, but for those who seen this will note that Michelle Thomas played Theo's girlfriend on the Cosby show, Tempestt Bledsoe was daughter Vanessa, and Kadeem Hardison played Lisa Bonets friend on a Different World. Not to take away from the movie which was great but seems that ever movie done in the late 80s took at least 2 to 3 actors from a show. Example as follows: Dance Till Dawn '1988' had Tempestt Bedsoe (Cosby), Alyssa Milano & Brian Bloom (Whos the boss),they both were in 'Crash Course' together, Tracey Gold & Alan Thicke (Growing Pains) and the list goes on. I am an 80's freak but looking back at some of these movies you have to wonder if they even put any effort into them or was these movies basic plugs for the actors. A push off away from their regular sitcom issues.
