I love Robert Eggers movies, and always watch then have to give myself a few days to process properly what Ive seen. I'll admit I really like this film but left abit oh... that's not what I thought but.. I done the same with The Witch which is now in my top films ever. There's so much to take in. This isn't just a film you go and see then done. As any of Eggers films... they linger after. He's a filmmaker for fans of film....
Its a stunning film, some of the scenes were genuinely breath taking. Particularly Thomas arrival to the castle. Cannot get it out of my head.
Skarsgard was amazing and completely unrecognisable as Orlok. I don't understand the hate for his look Eggers done a great job merging real lore around this era of when Vlad was alive! He's merged all the stories of vampires "nosferatu" and made his version. I actually thought it was great he didn't go down the "sexy" vampire route and thought it was great they didn't make it "hot" where they could have.
Soundtrack was so eerie and very reminiscent of The Witch.
Very well done retelling but didn't expect anything less from Robert Eggers. Deep down I knew it was going to be the perfect gothic film.
I only mark it down because I felt a few character fell flat and I was shocked Defoe was one for me!
But I can't wait to watch again... and I'm glad I seen it on the big screen to soak in those stunning visuals.

Andrea Arnold is amazing at these real life, close to home films.
They make you uncomfortable but only because you're not far away from the harsh reality it shows you in them.
They always show hope in a round about way... thankfully. Because if they didn't you'd be left staring into an abyss of hopelessness.
First time I've seen Nikiya Adams in anything and she was no doubt the star.
Barry Keogan his usual faultless but didn't take forefront.
Franz Rogowski, his performance was utterly heartbreaking and brilliant.
The issues addressed struck a cord with me and got me in the "feels" from a personal view.
Kids being grown up before their time but with no choice and the repercussions... this includes "adults" in the film too.
Soundtrack good too! Dad music ha!

I seen this documentary was coming on...
I'll go back about 16 years or so... back to flat party's with my friends before and after nights out... where we'd all take turns of putting on songs via YouTube and speakers.
I would always go to a track "Tim berg - Bromance" time again always went down well. I'd find it on a small YouTube channel with barely any views. The video I distinctly remember was just a spinning record... posted by Tim Berg.
Fast forward a few years wow what's this Avicci!? He's using a sample!? No. Obviously not. I loved him before and after. I knew of certain struggles but was shocked by his death and saddened massively. Huge part of my vital years growing up and my music saturated years. His songs remind me of good and bad times with friends. But hugely the good times. Great doc and insight into what a genius he really was and showing how respected he was in the industry. Just feel so sad for him really and how much hope and love he shared with people and brought them. I hope he's at rest now. Heartbreaking to see how he couldn't rest himself at his peak. Rip TIM.
