I love the H. G Wells War of the World's and was so excited that they made a new movie in that universe. A parallel story set in England to complement the US story we all know. Unfortunately, this was not very well done.
Negative: It's just low budget.
The actors are ok, but not as good as I'd like.
The writing was ok, but not as good as should be.
The CGI is... well the CGI should be way better than it is; especially the way the actors react to the CGI aliens.
Positives: The camera work, lighting, sound, and photography are actually all pretty good.
The edits are cut well for a good transition.
If you like invasion movies that seem more like a film school project, then here's your jam. If you're looking for a big studio project that this film should have had, then steer clear.

The reviews downplaying this movie must be the same people who blame the victim.
The sound, camera, and lighting quality are amateur.
The acting is decent.
The dialogue and plot are actually superb.
Every day victims are belittled, ignored, and accused on lying about being assaulted or raped. This film demonstrates the emotional toll one takes and the hurdles they must overcome just to report an assault, let alone going through the court system.
This artsy cultural commentary deserves higher praise and should be used to spread awareness rather than being fodder for those in the privileged and ignorant position to deny.

Those who disliked it must not have been able to look past the surface, which is still a great film.
The film contains great use of symbolism and comments on the true nature of relationships in contrast to the unattainably perfect marriage portrayed in most romcoms.
The characters are raw and easy to empathize with. Pete and Kaley fit these rolls so believably because they represent parts of themselves.
The colors used, the shots, the lighting, characters, writing.... It all makes for an emotional story.
I don't like that my review has to be longer. Thrift is a valuable and oft lacking trait in writing.
