The Awakened (2012)
Good supernatural film
I recently watched "The Awakened" at the Madison Horror Film Festival, and I have to admit I was presently surprised. When it started I thought it was going to be some low-budget film with really bad acting and painful to watch, but I was quickly engrossed in the story and forgot about the low-budget. I really liked the comradery between the five friends and the banter back and forth was very funny.
I thought that the whole premise of the story with the hurricane trapping them inside and the spiritual healing was very unique. Having watched a thousand horror movies, there's not much unique out there so I was pleasantly surprised. And despite the fact that everything takes place in one house over just a few hours, I was never bored. In fact, it kept me wondering what would happen next.
It's not a gory movie, although towards the end there's some really good make-up effects. I would say it's more of a thriller than horror. But if you want to watch something that keeps you entertained every moment, I would definitely recommend this.
