If you're trying to make sense of it all and expect a musical with an actual storyline, then you'll be disappointment. If you're just there to watch a compilation of visually stunning JLo music videos with pretty good dance moves, then you're in luck! Because that's all it is, music videos for her new album loosely based on her love life and incase you didn't notice, the encompassing theme is love (cringe). It felt like a huge vanity project where heaps of money was thrown at it, she got all her celebrity mates to do her a favour and make cameos appearances hoping to get some accolades from it. None of the songs stuck out as particularly catchy and what little dialogue there was, was a cliche and made no sense. The woman is still gorgeous to watch, if you're a huge JLo fan you'd appreciate it, if you're not, good luck to you.
It's far from perfect and the cartoon will always be superior. I appreciate it'll be near impossible to redo the cartoon frame by frame and even though it doesn't follow the cartoon exactly, it's done a damn good job at telling the story and extracting the essence and spirit of the original show. Visuals are stunning and the cast are all so fitting, some of the acting is questionable but for kids that haven't had a whole lot of experience in the industry, they didn't make me cringe, so in my eyes that's decent enough and forgivable. (They're much better than the Harry Potter kids when they first started out.) The fighting scenes are all amazing and makes bending look so powerful and devastating, really enjoyable. Most definitely doesn't deserve the 1 star that some of the reviewers have given it, it's a million times better than that movie that shall not be named and watching it brought a nostalgic tear to my eye. Well done Netflix, keep them coming and I hope the series gets a finish and not axed prematurely like a lot of good shows because I can't wait to meet Toph!
I don't understand how this could have such a high score. I knew going into it, I shouldn't expect much from these basic silly slasher movies. But this didn't even meet my already low bar. It was ridiculously cliched and it tried way too hard to be clever with the 'stab' movie references but didn't quite get the affect it was after, instead it illicited endless eyerolls. The acting was terrible, the killings were exaggerated and the big reveal where the responsible party does a long monologue to explain the reasoning behind it all, while the victims just stand there patiently listening, was as stupid and cringeworthy as it comes. I feel like I missed some inside joke that wasn't meant for me because this shouldn't get anything above a 4/10.
