I can't get on board with this "love" story
9 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Am I the only one who is pissed off by the "love" story between Edward and Elizabeth? Second interaction between each other he tries to rape her, she only got away because she pulled a knife. Next scene she is telling her mom how she regrets not sleeping with him..... then they get married and he appears MADDLY in love with her and her with him. Then jump some time her father and brother are murdered and Edward literally does nothing to avenge them and she seems mad about it but also not at all. Just lets that go and is maddly in love still. I'm like okaaayyy. Then jump some years and she see him sleeping with another woman there is no scene of them talking or yelling about it. She just gives death glares to the girl when she see her in public. Then jump some time and Edward and Elizabeth are in bed and she flippantly brings it up and he's like omg lol that's why you're mad at me? Girl you knew I would never be faithful to you before we got married but trust me I love YOU and no one else so just be okay with it. And no joke she nods her head and smiles and they just don't talk about it again and he's off sleeping with women while she's literally giving birth to their like 8th child. Which by the way him saying you knew I wouldn't be faithful is crazy because that was never shown until a few scenes ago. They never mentioned or showed him eyeing anyone else. He seemed wholeheartedly in love with Elizabeth. From the show perspective that was shocking he all of a sudden wasn't faithful. And for her to accept it so easily was weird from a character perspective because she is a very opinionated and strong women. I get for the times and the positions of these characters these scenarios made sense but from the way the show was shot and edited it felt so disjointed and left me confused. Like am I supposed to like this couple? They make no sense. Edward is toxic as hell and she doesn't seem to care but she is normal with any other toxicity from others. Idk it left a sour taste in my mouth.

There are so many other little things that bothered me as well all pointing to bad writing or the director cut out scenes that caused holes. I was left confused a lot of the time because of this. Also not to mention just random director choices. Like for example Elizabeth has 10 children. And she's had like 4 brith scenes by now and all of a sudden they show a pretty graphic one shot between the legs with the baby head coming out. I was like the heck no warning? Haha like why did we change it up so suddenly? Also can I point out how quick Elizabeth is having sex after giving birth. There was a specific scene after the graphic baby birth they didn't give a timeline but I don't think it was anywhere near 6 weeks (which is the current suggested time before having sex after birth) it felt like days after birth. (Again maybe bad directing not showing timing passing well) but Dear god I felt pain just watching that sex scene hahaha.

Anyways my issues come down to bad directing. Time passing wasn't clear, character intensions did not make scene, characters knew info that was never shown, relationships were all over the place. Idk it felt disjoined and I wasn't impressed.

It's exactly what you expect
22 December 2023
This movie is exactly what I thought it would be so I can't complain too much.

The two leads are both very attractive and have good chemistry, so that was entertaining to watch and nice on the eyes. It had some cute scenes. I gotta say the ensemble was pretty good if I laughed it was always because something one of them said. They were a bunch of goofy characters. I also enjoyed dermot mulroney's character when he was learning how to dive and the reoccurance of that at the end of the movie. It made me giggle.

But I gotta say... the dialogue was very mediocre and at times just not good at all. It just lacked depth which again didn't expect it to have depth but still could have been better.

Interesting until the last episode
21 December 2023
The show started off very slow but I was very interested to get more info. I enjoyed the way they did flashbacks to show the love story between Darby and Bill and the murder mystery they were trying to solve. I didn't enjoy all the scenes from the present day conference. It felt like they were trying too hard to make it some epic thing with this great couple, Lee and Andy. But it just didn't provide enough info on them, probably to keep them mysterious which I think was a bit of a mistake.

Without spoilers.... I did like the reveal of the whodunnit. I thought it was a good idea and a good payoff from the story happening at this conference. My two "complaints" and the only reason I didn't rate this show higher are:

1. Lack luster character development for Lee and Andy so I didn't really care much about them at the end. Their "struggles" didn't bring much to their story to care about what happened and for the ending to really hit I think I needed to care way more. They were extremely important to the ending and caring about their motivations so when it was all revealed I just felt "aww dang so close to an amazing ending!!!"

2. The last episode just felt so rushed and not in a good way. For a show that took SOOO much time cloaking the mystery it was such a shame to end it so rushed. They could have trimmed scenes throughout the show to provide more time unraveling this mystery to provide a better ending. Like more time on Lee and Andy like I talked about above and just on the scene where Darby figures it out. I'm not kidding when I say she went from 1 second being confused as ever to the next knowing exactly what happened and even in hindsight I don't think it was enough for what happened for her to figure it out. Would have been nicer to really drawl that scene out. Especially because the actors were all doing such a good job acting off of each other. Just a shame and so so close to being a 9/10 possibly.

Cringe
18 November 2023
I laughed exactly once during this movie and it was when one of the characters said good evening and mimed tipping their hat. Lol that's not even funny it just caught me off guard. The whole movie was just over the top. It was overly sexual even adults to children which was uncomfortable. The acting was beyond exaggerated which again was not funny. Then of course the over the top bloodiness and cavalier attitude to violence is so strange. Also the fact that these gay characters are aggressively pursuing straight characters is a weird message. I just really don't get the point in this movie at all.

Mixed Feeling but Ultimately Uncomfortable
17 November 2023
I have super mixed feelings on this movie. I saw it in theatres and was excited to see Jennifer Lawrence in a comedy she's very funny in interviews and I thought she did pretty good in this movie it was very her with the physical comedy BUT I just can't get over this kid who is supposed to be 19?? He looks 15 to me and Jen looks 32. It just felt so creepy and weird the whole time to me, I just couldn't get past that. I can get past the weird plot of the parents paying a 32 to sleep with their child... which is weird but whatever it's a movie... but they should have found someone that looks a bit older. It just felt like she was luring this literal kid to sleep with her. Like luring him to skinny dip.. yikes. I just felt weird the whole time especially because he doesn't seem into her until late in the movie so that made it even weirder! Haha just really odd and not really funny like they hoped.

Idk better casting could have done a lot for this movie I think to make it a little less uncomfortable. I really want to like this movie and I've seen WAAYY worse movies so I give it a 5/10.

Depp V Heard (2023)

Super Biased
16 August 2023
I could barely get through this documentary. I don't think it's a good title to call this "Depp vs Heard" it should have a different name, like adding the affects of social media on depp vs heard. Or something idk. Thought this did cover the drop vs heard trial it had a huge commentary on the social media presence and interest during the trial. I found it weird how in-depth they went with that, but also put a weird shame on it because everyone was making memes about amber. The creator of this documentary was clearly on ambers side, which is fine but again this wasn't the right title. I went in thinking this would be more of a tale of the trial not a hit piece. This had potential but they missed the mark.

Why is it 3 episodes??
12 August 2023
First off just watch the third episode don't waste your time watching all 3 episodes.

Episode 1 is the wife talking about how amazing he was when they dated. I think she described as perfect like 50 times.

Episode 2 is her talking about him cheating with adult women and normalizing her obsessiveness over every detail about him cheating. She was reading his sexts out loud to her podcast producer. It was very strange to watch. Speaking of the podcast producer she just really pushes the wife to continue this obsessiveness and really overdramatizes every little thing. This episode was just soooo long. Cheating is terrible and devastating to the spouse how gets cheated on but they made it like they were talking about he murdered someone. I found myself just not caring.

Episode 3 is finally about the sexual assault that lands him in jail. This was finally interesting because the dramatic nature finally matched what they were talking about. The student that comes forward and tells her story was great to listen to. Very brave and very proud of her.

It's cute
8 August 2023
I am American and this was my first k-drama. There was a lot of culture shock and confusion for me all the way through the 16 episodes. This is a very different style from any American show I've seen. There were silly sounds played to enhance the comedy which really turned me off at first, I eventually just ignored it as I think this just might be cultural. Outside of that, once the two leads start liking each other it got very cute. I found myself smiling as I watched them. I would say it takes awhile to get good, it's probably around the 10th episode where it gets really cute and fun. I found myself drawn into the main actor he got better every episode.
