Too Old to Die Young (2019)
Can't stop seeing.
It's the third time I've seen Too Old to Die Young. Each one of them with the same pleasure as the first time. I've been a fan of Nicholas Movies for quite a while now and the last that I've watched it looks like always better that the one that I've have seen before . The profound music, the long silences, the warm colours, the casting, i mean, everything's function together in an harmony dificult to put into words. Or you love it or you hate it, there's no middle point here. Miles Teller and all the cast are perfect to tell this incredible story fragmented in two different sets so distance from one another but so close as they can get.
Halo (2022)
If you love "The Mandorolian" you'll love "Halo"
What an amazing series. The casting, the soundtrack, the concept, the CGI, in short, I wasn't expecting a series of this quality. From Paramount and Amblin studios, for Science Fiction fans. Since "The Mandorolian" I've been waiting for something like this. A mix between "The Mandorolian" and "Avatar". After seeing the "pilot" I thought that the Series couldn't keep up with all that action. I was wrong.
Dual (2022)
Pure black horror
The beginning of the film is a prelude to what comes next. Intimate in its own way. Pure black homor with an argument as original as it is effective. The concept of the film is absurd but approached without pretentiousness which favors it for our delight. I strangely loved the movie. Probably because I saw him "that night" although I'm very susceptible to movies with bizarre characters. From the beginning to the end of the film it is seen with the same interest and intensity. Aaron Paul is simply divine.
All the Old Knives (2022)
Powerful Movie
Truth, Lies , Love in a powerful script very well acted. The soundtrack it's intense. A very good movie. Specially for those who like a good twist at the end.
Eight for Silver (2021)
Remarkable Movie
I didn't have any expectation when I first saw this movie. By luck I realize that Sean Ellis was the director. Cashback was a dark comedy that stayed with me forever and then when I saw this movie I saw it with a lot of expectations. And I was stunned. The Sean Ellis experience in this genre was remarkable. Everything about this movie is amazing. Everything.
A Banquet (2021)
A Powerful Dark Film
A Powerful Dark Dark Film . Brilliant acting. Film about a subject so close to fiction as to reality very well mixed when drama meets the horror that gets a young girl and her family. I love it. I really did love this British Horror film.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Simply Amazing Horror 2.2
5.4 seriously? This movie is excellent. With a fantastic argument this film is nothing behind other sequels I've seen. In fact, one of the best sequels for years now. The pace is amazing as the whole movie is brutal. A true reckoning for the fans of this serie. As I am. An amazing "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" version 2.2.
Ted K (2021)
Good but not enough
Being a true crime fan and having seen several documentaries about the unabomber I was looking forward to seeing this movie. After the opening credits, and given the initial approach I thought I would be in the presence of an intimate film. An "Author's Film". And this biography has everything to make that happen. But in my opinion the film falls into too many elements that have little to do with the nature of Ted himself as well as his odyssey. Even chronologically. I think the film would be more effective if it had an unknown actor. Although technically the film is excellent, highlighting the photography, although the soundtrack is also very adequate, the truth is that seeing the film as a whole, one gets the feeling that in reality, this could have been another film that "could have been" . Anyway good but not excellent.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Not so Epic
I'm a Star Wars fan. For so many years. And I loved The Mandorian. When I first start saw The Book of Boba Fett I was waiting for that magic. Episode after episode. But it never came. It's a very good Star Wars series. But not great.
The Last Thing Mary Saw (2021)
Beautiful Movie
This one caught me by surprise. Good acting, good cinematography, good direction in a different but dramatic story. In a time where forbidden love in an small community could get dramatic consequences this characters live their own dreams in a limbo of sin. A beautiful but dramatic movie.
The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman (2022)
One of the best
This is one of the best Netflix true crime mini series out there and probably the best of its kind. The story helps but unfortunately not so many conman true stories are told and I really don't understand why but this one it's great. For the families a nightmare. For the Police a challenge. I strongly recommend.
Crime Beat (2020)
One of the Best True Crime Series
This is nothing like "Snapped" or "See no Evil" but the formula is the same. The difference is that all episodes are about powerful true crime events and not so repetitive format as so many true Crime shows.
El páramo (2021)
A good Spanish Horror Movie
This is one of those films that you see very well but if it had less than 20 minutes it would reach a much higher amount as there is a certain exaggeration in the narrative that I think is unnecessary. Even so, it is an excellent film with an emphasis on performances, directing, cinematography, as well as all aspects inherent to the technical part. Spanish horror cinema is good and recommended.
Le calendrier (2021)
Very Refreshing Narrative
The Advent Calendar is within the genre of the most surprising films of 2021. Although it doesn't bring anything new, the film has a very well-developed story without falling into the genre stereotype and has something different that captivates the narrative. Very interesting.
Lewis Hamilton: The Winning Formula (2021)
2.5 really ???!!!!! Come on.....
In the current Formula 1, in which the results are negotiated between two teams at the expense of regulations, I understand the anger of those who really like motorsports. I was also disillusioned since the negotiation communication was shown in the broadcast to space from all over the world. And I even understand who doesn't like Lewis Hamilton. Personally I think he is one of the most gifted F1 drivers ever. But this documentary should not be seen and classified as a fan or not of Lewis Hamilton. But as a documentary as a whole and as such I don't understand such a low rating in a very interesting documentary. I liked.
Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer (2021)
True Crime at it's best
One of the most interesting true crime mini serie out there. Joe Berlinger and Ron Howard made a very good documentary and it's amazing to realize how many more stories are yet to be told as The Times Square Killer . I strongly recommend.
The Novice (2021)
Refreshing Thriller. Love at first time
There are films that sometimes only take 1 or 2 minutes for us to realize that we are in the presence of a different film. And when we dedicate a few years of our life to an activity that is at the base of the complexity of the main character, all the surroundings become more accessible for us. And "Rowing", for those who followed the entire learning process, is as good for "Dall" as "Dall" for "Rowing". A film as beautiful as it is intense.
Antlers (2021)
Finally a Horror Movie worthwhile
The casting. Cinematography. The atmosphere. The dark landscape. All in this horror movie it's great. In the same genre as "We are what we eat" this "Antlers" it's something that I haven't seen for quite a while now and if you loved "We are what we eat" you'll gonna love this one. Finally a Horror Movie worthwhile.
City of Angels, City of Death (2021)
A different serial killers perspective
You choose a time and a place. Then you conduct an investigation of all the major serial killers that choose that time and that place to do all of their crimes. This is an amazing chronological investigation of L. A. most notorious serial killers.
American Monster (2016)
One of my favorite true crime series
Not that American Monster it's the best true crime shows out there but the selection of the crimes, and the way they are told, make one of the most expected new series each time they are released. And to be honest each series it's better than the one before.
The Line (2021)
A War within a War
There are Documentaries and Docu-Series Biographies that deal with events that occur in everyday life that are so significant that only through the bravery of certain interveners their deeds, positive or negative, come "in the light of day". This week Apple TV released the mini-series "The Line (2021)" about the US Seals and the disastrous consequences that war can bring.
Devs (2020)
Fascinating Sci-Fi concept
Quantum theory applied to the past, in the present. Confused ???!!! The binary system of algorithms helps. Or not ???!!! Of the few interesting FX series because the very concept of the series is interesting not to say fascinating. Of such themes that is part of Science Fiction. Until one day it ceases to be. Not that this is the case. At least for many, many generations. Although such a prediction is my curiosity and imagination to speak louder.
Den osannolika mördaren (2021)
Great Swedish Mini-Serie
When Olof Palme was murdered in the mid-1980s, a hope of Peace and Equity disappeared with him not only in Sweden but throughout Europe and why not the whole world. Before, during and after few Politicians had, have and/or will have the class and determination of Olof Palme. And despite many pointing out the person responsible for the murder, the truth is that until today no one has been held responsible for the tragic event. "The Unlikely Murderer" from 2021 is a faithful reenactment of one of the most controversial events of the 20th century. And just another great Swedish series distributed by Netflix. As a Biographical and Research Series "The Unlikely Murderer" is one of the most interesting of 2021.
Glória (2021)
A Portuguese new comer pearl
I admit that before seeing "Glória" I didn't have great expectations. The relationship with Portuguese cinema has not been easy and it is difficult to point out a title that made me change that relationship. But I've already made a post about these causes and it's not worth repeating now. Hence, when I learned that the first Portuguese series launched by Netflix in co-production with SPI and RTP was going to be produced, I didn't even give it much importance. However, the series debuted and what a satisfaction to have to "handle the paddle" because "Glória" of 2021 is nothing behind so many others that I've seen on Netflix. Including North Americans. Which doesn't imply that it's one of the best either, but it's precisely in the middle. The production and interpretation is at the level of the best that is done nowadays. The recreation of the time is very well done. And despite the recurrent trauma of the Colonial War being present again, the narrative and argument are very well structured. Seriously, I was surprised and finally, of the Portuguese series that I had the opportunity to see, this one created by Pedro Lopes is probably the most successful. A little in the same line of quality as the 2019 movie "A Herdade" he was also directed by Tiago Guedes, as well as this surprising "Glória".
13 Minutes (2021)
Twister 2.0
It makes "Twister - Tornado (1996)" seem like a small breeze. "Twister" more spectacular. "13 Minutes" more realistic. In 1996 climate change was not the topic of the day. This is a tornado 2.0. Exaggerated is true but it reflects the force of Nature well. How many times have we seen it; this only in movies. Until one day.....
