This film is a brilliant look at family dynamics, how is it at 7.7 but all the stupid Marvel movies rank higher. Are we all so dysfunctional nowadays that we need to escape to fantasy instead of reflect on real life and learn how to communicate properly. Ordinary People should be a staple on everyone's watch list.
I probably haven't seen it in a good 20 years and it's one of those films that stays with you and you can recall all the scenes. I think we all process trauma differently, so it's unfair to blame or pass judgement on any of the characters, as there's a little bit of all their strengths and weaknesses inside each of us. I think most people would assume that a woman would find a way to be the glue for her family and instead Conrad and Calvin learn acceptance and grow throughout the film, while Beth lets the accident eat away at her and stay in denial. It was interesting to see that unfold on camera as from personal experience, the males in my life have been affected by trauma the way Beth was. I think the counselling scenes resonated with me a lot as they ask the audience to reflect on themselves.
This movie is just perfect and timeless to me. In a world where everyone thinks there is something wrong with them, but doesn't want to put in the work, I wish therapists recommended this as homework.

I think having some North American actors in the main cast would have fixed the dynamic. Comedy relies on urgency...the dialogue seems to have been passed over, nothing seemed high stakes. I couldn't get past episode 1 though lol.
A great documentary. It made me mourn the loss of my pet and realize how much animals can enrich our lives. Almost makes me sad seeing how that world exists and then watching how vapid people in society are. I thought the pacing was great, but would have actually liked to see more of how Craig was documenting his findings at home and maybe touch base about the Sea Change Project a bit more. Still find it humorous that Marvel movies rate higher than something that couldn't be conjured up on a green screen or in post production lol.
