Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
The Time...
When I first watched the movie I was well... really disappointed. After some time and after anther like too rounds of Indy I couldn't help but love the movie. It sure is different from the original trilogy, but some is the time we live in.
Sure it is a bit over-pact up with action, but it still does have a certain Spielberg feeling to it. The discovery well fits todays understanding of the world and whole USA-Russian thing is on the complete different level in this picture than in many others. Indy has turned from a complete adventurer to old guy who keeps telling stories and explains thing at the most unsuitable time and still stays an adventurer.
I can't help, but to believe that in some time this movie will be just as appreciated as the other ones. I thing it is just an amazing addition to the trilogy definitely worth seeing.
Gamer (2009)
Kind of a bust...
I am sorry guys, but this is honestly a bust of time. I felt more adrenaline while watching good old '80 action flick. It is a lot of shaky but meaningless action and gore and some breasts. The whole story (even though I am a big sci-fi fan) was pretty much nothing new.
The bad guy is once again just bad and nothing more, missing any depth of the character. And is just only a one of motives this movie shows, but does not really work with. Many good ideas didn't quite make it in this title. Many were just lost or didn't really have enough space or time to give you anything.
I find this picture as a kind of a movie you watch with your friends making a lot of funny comments because there is not enough stuff that would make you shut up and watch.
Taxi (2004)
A really bad try...
YES! This movie is a re-make of an original french movie Taxi, in case you didn't know and a pretty bad one. If you are too lazy to read subtitles, well then I guess you are better off with this us trashy version. If you are not, then get the original from 1998 with Samy Naceri and Peugeot. It is sooo much better.
The problem here is that for some reason, the bank gang just had to be a bunch of out of control Russian models. Yes! Beacouse that is going to happen! This movie is just an inch from these evil mafia walking around naked, it is hardly believable at all.
Plus, I am sorry, but Queen Latifah is not really convincing as a racer person and in to the car kind of a person.
Sorry, folks, I say you could just put less money into dubbing the original, than throwing them away for a poor try-out. I am NOT saying all this just because I am from Europe.
The Hunt for Gollum (2009)
Great
It sure is one hell of a job done. In fact it would be ten if only the fighting was better. I know I am sorry. It WAS amazing. Great editing helped a lot, but man... I hate when the duelists keep pushing blades against each other. It has nothing to do with fencing. Really. I don't really expected class-A sword fighting, but I did expected just a little more.
Othherwise, I can not find a single reason why this should not be a vital movie wort seeing. I had a lot of fun watching it. Loved the atmosphere and the feeling. Sort of a sleepy and dreamy feeling(there is a word for it in my language and I am sure, that there is something I might be satisfied with out there in English), that is so typical for Tolkien. For me at least.
Thumbs up.
Babylon A.D. (2008)
Complete Waste of Money
I am sorry, if I have offended anybody who actually liked this picture, but I just cant find any positive thing about it. Vin is as usual... This guy does not care that much about acting. But since the role seems to be written for him it is no big deal.
That is what I can call a success of this movie. And thats it. I will just jump trough things like America is eden while Russia hell cause thats just old and it might tickle a couple million Russians.
The plot is not simple. It is childish. The final "suprise" is so constructed out of nothing that it is sad. Whole movie is pretty predictable and messy at the same time.
So if you are looking for some fine sci-fi action, this movie is not what you are looking for. There's nothing thrilling, no tension and the sci-fi part is just a bad mix of something we all know too well.
Taken (2008)
Not the best, but sure great.
The first thing I do after watching the movie I liked is reading comments of those who hated it. Just to see what might I miss and you know... to get the other opinion. And I have to say, some of you are right. All these things in the movie just sort of a happen. Rich step-father, spy father, ice-cold mother... And so on.
So... Why ten? Because I can even imagine what would I have done when receiving such a phone call from my daughter. So I was just watching this unstoppable daddy going through the thing like a razor. That is what I would like to do. I could definitely feel the fury of this character. I guess that is why.
Plus it somehow reminded me of Die Hard. Plus Liam Neeson... Plus the speed an the thrill.
I think it is a great movie of it's kind.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
Too Cocky
I am sorry, but this just makes me sad.
First of all, a man named after one of my favorite comic character doing something very bad with his career, second of all... Why?
USA is like three hundred years old (I know it is not so accurate, but that is not the point) and so it happens that during these few years all history just concluded right there... In the first movie Templaras just moved all the treasures of the the World to USA. Why? I mean, why not hide it in China? It is a bit more crowded so it is just the perfect spot. And now this...
I don't know... It is just like someone would shoot a movie where president of Slovakia is the most powerful man in the World.
Sorry, but... Something very itchy about this movie. It is your choice.
