People don't make movies like this anymore. David Lynch is one of those directors that breaks every rule in the book but somehow manages to make some of the best cinema. This is probably my favorite David Lynch film, and if you are trying to decide which one of his films to begin watching, I suggest this one. It was my first Lynch experience and I found it to be one of the best. Visually striking, nightmarish sounds, and intriguing characters. I believe I heard one of Kubrick's favorite directors was David Lynch. *** Note: only watch this film if you like nightmarish films. There are no jump scares here. This movie gets deep.
Leone has had a very interesting career. This and Once upon a time in America are both insanely good. There are very few filmmakers that can create a moving painting, a film that feels like you are reading a good novel, a film you can literally smell! This film will take you into the dreams of Leone, and while you're watching it, you wont bother pinching yourself to wake up because the dream is so damn cool. I think people who don't understand this film want more pop art, that's the reason they keep bringing up Leone's earlier works, but this film is all about mood. It set's the perfect tone for a western, not your John Wayne caricature. If you like dreamy yet realistic films. Be sure to check this one out.
This movie started out strong, and it kinda threw me off for a second, but once I got back on track I actually enjoyed it. The mood and style of White Wall was refreshing, and I still have a hard time believing that this was a mini budget indie??. Pros - some loked out knife fighting scenes, and an interesting concept made it worthwhile. Cons - it's too artsy for it's genre, I normally appreciate this kinda stuff, but It was a little too avant-garde at times and it's great that there are people out there actually trying to break a few molds, but I wasn't expecting it. This isn't for everyone, but if you like dark movies with some action and a very Yoshiaki Kawajiri jap anime style to it then I say go for it or else don't bother. To sum it up, if you go in watching this in the right mood, you should thoroughly enjoy this.
