I was so riled up and inspired when watching this. Until the credits rolled. A male director?! That's why I gave this one star. The absolute hypocrisy is laughable. I also don't think Wonder Woman is a great example of empowering women. You still have a lead woman superhero who is model beautiful with a ridiculous sexy getup and a cookie cutter script. What a missed opportunity. I don't care that that's how she' portrayed in the comic books - drawn up by a man. It can't only be women directors in the discussion. It also has to be the stories. That's what young girls see. Not who's directing the films. We still have a long way to go for even women to realize how oppressed we are. We need to open our eyes to what stories are being told and how the women are being portrayed. Not just diverse beautiful women. All TYPES of women.
This is one of the most overlooked films of all time. The script is absolutely, unequivocally brilliant. The performances by all are incredibly nuanced and off the charts amazing. Every time I watch this film, I pick up more and more details and am cognizant of the fact that it's perfect. The direction is - how can I say 'brilliant' more than one way? - perfection, the cinematography is unbelievably gorgeous. My husband and I watched it again for the fourth time and we both just wept and squealed with glee at its poignant, touching, unbelievably spectacular, superior moments. Bravo, bravo, BRAVO to all involved in this film. You have raised the bar. It should have won several academy awards.
Prime Suspect is not the usual cop formula. It is hands down one of the best shows I've ever seen. The writing is brilliant, the acting is off the charts, the characters are drawn so specifically and with such nuance it's difficult to fathom it's written, acted and edited in the short amount of time that television allows. You have to pay attention, it is so intelligently drawn and detailed. The boys' club mentality surrounding Detective Jane Timoney is so accurately portrayed, it's cringe-worthy, but the male characters are also fleshed out to be likable. All the characters are flawed realistically and have to confront those flaws and past mistakes through their relationships with the other characters. The humor comes out of the sometimes dark reality of life. There are many scenes that are so unbelievably hilarious coming out of the situation, I've had to watch them over and over. I can't say enough about this show. It shouldn't be compared to the British series. It's a different show and it should be. They seem to base it on the same plot lines and dealings with sexism, but it's not a remake and it doesn't make any sense to even compare the two shows. They're both great and both stand on their own merits. It's unbelievably delicious.
