First- Parents, there are adult situations/nudity and so you might want to put the kids to bed before enjoying. Second-Every work of art should be judged based on the artist's intent and as a result I give this film a top rating of ten stars out of ten stars. It's a beautiful production with a gorgeous setting in a small mexican village. The story was pretty good, but what really sells it is the emotions and chemistry between the actors. Fabulous job from the director in getting the performances out of his team. I was very anxious on how it would end and was surprised at the ending! It's focused on real life situations so i appreciated that.
First thing first, I have never read the original Cerebus comic books. The closest thing was his appearance that happened in an early SPAWN comic issue that I bought as a kid. So going in as a casual viewer, the world was going to be brand new to me. I was pleasantly surprised with a great story and enjoyable experience. The animation to me, who holds no animation skills or talent, is very impressive and makes me wish I did. It allowed the filmmaker to be very artist as far as the different environments and characters go. The voice acting is top notch as music as well. If they ever do another I would be very interested to watch.
First thing's first: Parents, this movie is definitely family and child friendly. So if you're looking for a fun and delightful film to watch during the holidays or even a Sunday afternoon, I recommend Santa's Letters. It doesn't have the big Hollywood budget but with that, it makes up for it in charm and honesty in its storytelling. The director/writer did an amazing job keeping you engaged in the movie and following along as you watch the characters grow. If you're a fan of holiday movies or Christmas movie but are also tired of the gimmicks, gross humor, or computer graphics, I suggest adding Santa's Letters to your Christmas List!
