I was engrossed with the fight scenes and it made me root for the main character to survive the ordeal. I won't compare this to any other movie. I'll give it its own praise for giving what I need for an action film. Obviously, this isn't just drama. It's a fun-filled action. I love the music that lightened the mood when it went all bloody and chaotic. The action is part of the story itself, it can't be dismissed as just another unnecessary part of the scene, 'cause that's the point of the film. The punch of the story at the end is just a way to show that everyone has something to fight for.
I enjoyed the entire story, how the protagonist sought out revenge and how the plot didn't reveal things entirely. It added a sudden change of events, of betrayals and more that made it interesting. I love how it makes you root for the protagonist to exact his revenge and punish the perpetrators. Filled with action and explosions, overall an enjoyable movie.
I'm not going to judge the movie in contrast with the book (which I haven't been able to read yet) or any other crime/detective story, but as a movie on its own. The film has a nice vintage feel to it. In the start of the movie you would thought it's just a simple story where there will be a murder and the detective at the end will solve the crime, but it's not just about that. It imprints a question about morality, of justice, of conscience. It would make you think deeply after the climax of the story unravels to you. You may get shocked or say "Aha! I'm right about it". But it does leave you to question, was justice really served? What would be your own ending to the story?
The cinematography is great, there isn't a hint of any anomaly to the plot of the story. Though others may see the film's adaptation not great in comparison to its novel, this would still be a great movie to watch.
