The movie "Kinds of Kindness" consists of three separate episodes, each about one hour long. In an era of TV on demand, does it still make sense to create such episodic films for cinema? These episodes are essentially a kinky version of "The Twilight Zone," with a gratuitous need to provoke and shock, without ever becoming gory or scary enough. It incorporates some humorous elements but never truly becomes comedic. It dabbles in many genres without ever committing to one, resulting in a poor mix that doesn't add up to much. Was this film necessary? Does it contribute anything to the art form? Unfortunately, it does not, nor is it interesting or entertaining enough to qualify as a guilty pleasure. Not my kind of film, however some strong performances by the cast.
Nice short film, yet the clever idea for the plot comes from Damon Knight's short story "This way to the Regress". This film should be considered an adaptation of that.
Bad photography, poor acting, boring plot (almost inexistent) ... very disappointing Altman. An unrealistic portrait of the ballet world turns out to be an unnecessary movie. Long dance sequences and no plot make hard to believe that this is an Altman movie. Neve Campbell doesn't know how to dance nor have the "physique du role" to portray her character. It seems like an awful dance movie from the 80' that won't help getting people closer to this beautiful art. I suggest going to a theatre and enjoy a real dance or ballet show instead of going to a movie theatre and see this awful-mentary, so-called movie.
